At Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Sunday, September 16, 2001 in her 72nd year. Juanita, beloved wife of Pranas for almost 50 years. Much loved mother of Leslie, Scott and his wife Susan, and the late Darrell (1954 - 1978). Dear grandmother of Zoe, Carly, Nicholas, Thomas and Olivia. Sister to Geraldine, Gladys, Katherine, Leslie, Doreen and Eileen. Juanita was born in Hubbards, Nova Scotia on October 29, 1929. She moved to Toronto in 1951 and married Pranas in 1952. She had an extensive career in the food services industry. Juanita started as a young waitress at the Royal York Hotel, eventually managing cafeterias in a multitude of locations such as St. Joseph's School for Girls and the OHIP offices in East York. She was also a key member of the Dietician department at Toronto East General Hospital during most of the 1970's. She will ultimately be remembered for her kind heart, culinary delights, exceptional handcrafted garments and her unselfish commitment to her family. Juanita's last years were devoted to volunteer work with St. John the Evangelist Church in Whitby and to her grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Prayers on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will take place at St. John the Evangelist Church (903 Giffard Street, Whitby) on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at 11 a.m. followed by cremation.
