ZIMMERMAN, Janet Elspeth -
Loving and beloved wife of Arthur Gordon. Cherished mother of Susan and Donald Morris, Ian and Marie Zimmerman. Adoring and adored "Gran" of Jennifer, Andrew Morris and Arianna Zimmerman. Daughter of the late George Wallace Anderson and Edith Currie Anderson, daughter-in-law of the late Arthur and Mary Zimmerman. Born in Talara, Peru she came to Ontario for schooling in 1940. Graduating from the Atkinson School of Nursing in 1955, she devoted herself to caring for others throughout her lifetime. A Charter Member of Big Sisters of Greater Niagara and the Chris Jones Group (Niagara Falls). She enjoyed curling, reading, bridge, gardening, baking, family and friends. After a valiant struggle against cancer, she passed away at home surrounded by her family on October 1, 2001, in her 68th year. We will miss her deeply. May we all benefit from her legacy of strength, caring and compassion. The family will receive friends at the McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday, October 5, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Scarborough Hospital, General Division, Oncology Department or Hearth Place in Oshawa.

GORMAN, Kenneth -
Surrounded by his family, on Friday, November 30, 2001 at Lakeridge Health, Bowmanville. Ken, loving husband of Pat. Dear father of Kathleen and Bill, Jim and Donna, Diana and Art, John, and the late Doreen and Janice. Sadly missed by 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S., Newcastle (Mill St. exit, just north of 401 at the lights - toll free 1-877-987-3964) on Sunday, December 2, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, December 3, at 1 p.m. Cremation. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Peacefully at her home on Friday, November 30, 2001. Maria Maliszewski, dearly beloved wife of the late Wasil Maliszewski. Loving mother of Krysa Jaworski-Hill and her husband Bob, Lillian Brunner and her husband John, Helen Olyer and her husband John and the late Ray Jaworski and the late Theresa Maliszewski. Dear mother in law of Joyce Jaworski. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Steven and David Jaworski, Natasha and Jennifer Brunner, Andrea, Carolyn and Christopher Olyer and great grandchildren Shauny and Miranda Jaworski. Sister of the late Justina of the Ukraine. Mrs. Maliszewski rested at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East Oshawa, with Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, December 4th at 10 a.m. at St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Church, 411 Olive Avenue, Oshawa. Interment Resurrection cemetery , Whitby. Visitation was held on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Prayers were held on Monday evening at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be gratefully appreciated.

Suddenly as the result of an automobile accident on Friday, November 30th, 2001 in Frederickton, New Brunswick. Jack O'Boyle, in his 65th year, dear husband of the late Gloria O'Boyle (nee Steeves). Loving father of John Patrick and Lloyd James. Dear brother of James (Carol Ann), Fred (Marlene), Norm (Peggy) and Joanie (Rick). Jack will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Resting at The Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King St. E., Oshawa, with Funeral Service in the Chapel on Wednesday, December 5th, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation, Thornton Crematorium. Brother of Helen Seweryniak and her husband Henry and nephew George and Susan and many nieces and nephews in Europe. Predeceased by sisters Adele and Alexandra and brothers Peter and Albin. Resting at The Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa with Mass of Christian Burial in St. Hedwig's Church Oshawa on Monday, December 3rd at 10 A.M. Interment at Thornton cemetery Oshawa. Prayers will be held at the Funeral Home Sunday at 7:00 P.M. Memorial Donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. SEARLES, Olive May A.R.T.C. -
(Member of the Searles Trio and Melodic Strings, many years organist and choir director of Mark St. United Church, Peterborough, sang for Lady Eaton at her Sunday Musicales, one of Peterborough’s most outstanding Musicians, known throughout Southern Ontario for her talent and showmanship. She also co-founded the Peterborough branch of the Canadian Diabetic Association.) After a lengthy illness on Friday, November 30th, 2001 in the town of Whitby. Loving wife of the late Robert Cecil Searles. Caring mother of Bob and Helen of San Jose, California; Elizabeth Harris and Charles Galea of Port Perry. Will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Sarah and Gabriel Searles, Chris Harris and Stephanie and Rob Wilson. Great grandmother of Aimee and Jessica Wilson. Olive is survived by her brother William Prest and Predeceased by parents Arnold and Flora Prest. Friends will be received at the OSHAWA FUNERAL SERVICE "Thorton Chapel", 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905-721-1234) for visitation on Tuesday, December 4th, 12:00 p.m. until time of Service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m.

ALDWINCKLE, Josephine (Jo) -
Josephine Aldwinckle of Oshawa and Stratford, Ontario passed away Peacefully in her 95th year at The Village of Winston Park Nursing Home in Kitchener, Ontario, on 29 November, 2001. Born Lois Josephine Rosa Pursey 20th December 1906 in Gillingham, Kent, England, "Jo" was predeceased by her husband Jack Aldwinckle in February 1972, and by her sister Georgette Bradley of Sandgate, Kent, England in March 1997. She was educated in the French Convent of Saint Chretienne, (Gillingham, Kent) and at Godolphin and Latymer School, Hammersmith, London. Diplomas include the Junior Oxford (Classics), the College of Preceptors, and the Royal Society of Arts for Commercial French. She was employed as a librarian at Hythe, Kent when she won the esteemed Cornwallis Cup trophy for public speaking, as a member of the Junior Imperial League. Following her marriage in 1930, she emigrated to Oshawa and became active in little theatre and the Womens' League of Health and Beauty, and also wrote and produced two inspirational musical pageants during the war years, which were performed at Oshawa Collegiate & Vocational Institute. As a member of the Women's Press Club of Toronto and through her many journalistic years as Womens' Editor for the Oshawa Daily Times, she was particularly well known in the Oshawa area for her "Jo's Journal" column, and as freelance writer for the Oshawa Journal and Oshawa This Week papers. In the 1960s she founded the Oshawa Folk Arts Council, serving as director for many years, and in later years as recording secretary for the Ontario Folk Arts Council. In semi-retirement she served as executive director of Parkwood (the R.S. McLaughlin estate in Oshawa), and produced a history of the Oshawa General Hospital. Finally retiring to Stratford in 1976, she continued to patronize the arts and support the Stratford Festival Theatre, and was a lifetime honorary member of Beta Sigma Phi. Survived by her son Lieutenant Colonel Clive Aldwinckle (R.A.F./R.C.A.F. Ret'd) and wife June of Waterloo, Ontario and four grandchildren, Glenn Aldwinckle and wife Dorina of Waterloo, Ontario; Janice Netherton and husband John of Haines Junction, Yukon; Carolyn Vance and husband Douglas of Aurora, Ontario; and Diane Keil and husband Cal of Waterloo, Ontario; also survived by ten great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and remains will be interred with her husband's in Oshawa. Friends and relatives will be received at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, from 11 AM to 1 PM, 1 December, 2001. A celebration of her life will be conducted at the Armstrong Funeral Home, King Street East, Oshawa, 18 December 2001 from 6 to 8 PM. Friends who so wish may make memorial donations to the Charity of their choice.

Suddenly, as the result of an accident, on Thursday, November 29th, 2001. Leigh, age 13. Beloved daughter of Ian Thomson and his wife Andrea McCabe of Oshawa, and Debra Tendam and her husband Troy King of Bowmanville. Dearly remembered by her brothers John, Tom and Devin Donovan, and step-brother Drake McCabe. Dear granddaughter of Marlene and the late James Donovan, Eva Thomson, and Alex Thomson. Great-granddaughter of Ileen and the late Doug Layton. Loving mother of George, Cecilia and her husband Ron Caister, John Locmelis and Lily Volf. Dear grandmother of Yuri, Andria, Brad, Tim, Scott, Lori and great grandmother of Jeffrey, Kevin, Brenan, Sean, Jessica and Cori. Mrs. Locmelis rested at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, 110 Dundas St. East Whitby, Ontario. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial Resurrection cemetery.

Suddenly and peacefully on November 29, 2001 in her 81st year at home where she wanted to be. Dear wife of the late Joseph Maillet. Peacefully after a lengthy illness at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa on Thursday, November 29th, 2001 in her 71st year. Loving wife of Richard. Stepmother to Judy of England and Kathryn of California. Irene is survived by her sister Chris, brother Peter and brother-in-law Howard all of England. Loving Aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Long time friend of Louisa and her daughter Catherine and family. She will be sadly missed by her many friends both here and abroad.
