peacefully, at Fairview Lodge, Saturday February 2, 2002, in his 63rd year, after a lengthy battle with Huntington's Disease. John was the beloved husband of Betty, loving father of Anne and her husband Ian, Shaun, and Ryan and his wife Christina and adoring grandfather of Erica, Aidan and Austin. He is survived by his sister, Mollie, and his brother, Philip and his wife Gloria. He will be sadly missed by his niece, Debra, nephew, David and their spouses and children. Insurance executive, community volunteer, devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather, H. George Martin, 80, of Stouffville, Ontario died peacefully on February 1, 2002. Born in Harold Wood, England, he joined the Royal Merchant Navy, serving for nine years as first officer and, during emergencies at sea, as ship's doctor. Emigrating to the United States in 1950, this self-made man rose to become vice president and chief operating officer of the Aetna Casualty Company of Canada and industry advocate until his retirement in 1985. He leaves behind Mary Snell, his wife of 51 years, sister Mabel, his five children and their spouses Donald (Annette), Paul (Avril), Pam (Jim), Derek (Lori) and Kendra (Bruce), and 12 grandchildren Erin, Trina, Andi, Jennifer, Amanda, Shannon, Daniel, Ben, Colin, Jack, Gregory and Hannah, who will all miss him as an indelible source of vitality, personal inspiration, Christian values, honesty and humour in their lives. A memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday, February 5 at Pickering Village United Church, 300 Church Street N., Ajax. Inquiries can be made through the McEachnie Funeral Home. At St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, on Friday, February 1, 2002. Joe Mullen in his 69th year, son of Ireland and true Canadian patriot. The eldest of the brother's Mullen, Joe was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1933. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1957 - 1960, and United States Armed Forces from 1961 - 1964, before settling in Toronto. Longtime employee of SKF Canada and Lily Cup Canada, he traveled the world extensively, and loved books and babies. Uncle Joe resided with his brother Albert and his family from 1967 until his passing, casting his unique glow on all that he touched. He will be eternally remembered and deeply loved by brother Albert and sister-in-law Kathleen, nieces Theresa, Catherine (Faust Gaudio), Maureen (Michael Haas) and Jacqueline (Darin Shaw) and families; brother Michael, sister-in-law Ann, Angela (Glen Dennis) and family; Patrick (Patricia) and family; brother Martin sister-in-law Colleen, Erin and fiancee Charlie Devaney, and Shannon; sister Bridget Thompson and her children Albert, Edward, Bridget, Susan, Joseph and Martin, all of Ireland, the US, the UK and Australia. Joe was predeceased by his parents Albert and Bridget (O'Brien) Mullen, and by his brother-in-law Edward Thompson. He was an extra-special "Joe-Joe" to Robert, Zaira, Natasha, Madeleine, Kathleen, Stefanie, Bridget, Brendan, Michaela, Claire and Kyra. The family received friends at the W.C. Born and raised in Waldron, Saskatchewan, a longtime resident of Oshawa, Ontario and employee of Houdaille Industries. Beloved husband of 51 years of Ileen Gosick, father of Murray and his wife Carolyn of Bowmanville and Sharon and her husband Peter Melnychuk of of Oshawa. Grandfather of Garrett and his wife Melissa, Geoffrey, Genna and Joshua. He is survived by his stepmother Barbara Neuman, brothers John and Gordon, sisters Ida Phelan, Ella Dakin and Eva Gustafson and step-siblings Adam Klein, Liz Glacair and Anne Braun. Predeceased by sisters Anna, Joan, Alvina and stepbrother John Klein. Bill will be remembered as a gentleman farmer and avid horseman. A long time member and elder of Zion & Stanwood United Churches. A devoted husband and father who was happiest pursuing family activities. Bill will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all those who were blessed by knowing him.
