Surrounded by family praying the rosary, Margaret "Rita" McCanny left this world in peace on Tuesday July 13, 2004 in Oshawa, age 79. Predeceased by her sisters Josephine & Maura, she leaves behind her beloved husband Owen, her children Rosemary, Kathy (Kevin), Kevin (Tracy), Stephen (Angela), Maura (Tim), Pat (Ann), her 13 grandchildren, along with her brother Pat and sister Roisin. Rita left Northern Ireland with Owen on the adventure of their lives, arriving in Montreal on their honeymoon 51 years ago. With a song in her heart and a smile on her lips she worked tirelessly in support of her family, friends and parish community. Past president of her parish Catholic Woman's League and the Third Order Franciscans, she and Owen moved to Oshawa in 1999. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East Oshawa, with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1100 Mary Street North, on Friday July 15, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation. A memorial service followed by the interment of Rita's ashes will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Chateauguay, Quebec on a date to be determined. Dziadek to twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Born in Poland, Jan was the son of the late Wawrzyniec and Wiktoria (Kotowicz). He was a WWII survivor of a Soviet labour camp, and educated as a mechanic in South Africa. He was reunited with his family in Tanganyika and immigrated to Canada in 1949. Thirty year employee of General Motors. Member of Group 21 (Polish Alliance), Polish Veterans, Knights of Columbus, and Oshawa District Coin and Stamp Club. Donations to W. BENNETT, Brook Alexander -
Died at Lakeridge Hospital Oshawa, on Sunday July 11, 2004 in his 44th year, following a lengthy battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his wife Carolyn and son, Joshua of Whitby, Ontario; his father Murray Bennett of Charing Cross and Grandmother Mildred Bennett of Blenheim. Brook was predeceased by his mother, Beverly (MacKay) Bennett and his grandparents, Norman Bennett and Eric and Ruby MacKay. Brook was born in Victoria Hospital, London on April 15th, 1961, son of Murray Bennett and Beverly (MacKay) Bennett. He attended kindergarten in Peterborough. Brook's family returned to Charing Cross where he attended Harwich/Raleigh Elementary School and Blenheim District Secondary School. Brook moved to Toronto and enrolled at De Vry Institute of Technology graduating with his Electronic Technicians degree. Prior to his illness, he furthered his education at Durham College in Oshawa where he received his Microsoft and Cisco network certifications. Brook spent most of his working career servicing computers and computers networks. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002, but it was too far advanced, and recovery was not expected. He was able to enjoy and Alaskan cruise out of Vancouver with Carolyn. Westminster United Church in Whitby has been Brook and Carolyn's home church. This caring community of friends has been helpful in so many ways. Our sincerest thanks to Rev. Christopher White, Parish Nurse Gail Brimbecom, the members of the respite volunteer group, and all the parish members who have supported us during this difficult time. The Bennett family wish to extend their sincerest thanks to the doctors, nurses, and palliative care staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, to Tony Cheung, Social Worker at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, the dedicated volunteers at Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre, and J.L.
