Peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 21st, 2006 in his 79th year with his wife at his side following a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband and best friend of Margaret (Wood) for 58 years. Proud and loving father of Susan, Nancy, Robert (Lori) and Kathleen. Loved and cherished by grandchildren Shawna (Bryce Vincent), Ryan, Kelsey, Braden and Mallory. Lovingly remembered by brother Gary (Sandra) of North Bay, many nieces and nephews, life long friend Don Lewis, and family and friends. Predeceased by parents Orrin and Adeline, brother Orrin Jr. and sister Betty. Roy retired from the Ottawa Police as Staff Inspector after 37 years of service. He subsequently began a new venture and for 18 years operated Gilwood Engravers. Roy was a dedicated 32nd Degree Mason for 53 years and active until his illness. He was a Past Master of Ashlar Lodge and Luxor Daylight Lodge and D.D.G.M., District 2, in 1995 and will be missed by many Masonic friends. Roy was a member of Tunis Temple Shrine and the Scottish Rite. Friends may call at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Thursday 7 to 9pm and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, February 25th, 2006 at 11am, followed by a reception in the McGarry Family Reception Centre.
