Died peacefully in her sleep in her 92nd year at St. Patrick's Home, Friday February 3, 2006. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, 27 March 1914, the daughter of Maurice and Elizabeth Joyce. Predeceased by her husband, Commander Robert Francis, R.C.N., her son, John Frederick and her sister, Honora, (Sister John Elizabeth). She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Wendy and granddaughters Deirdre and Moira; by her son David and his wife Sandy and granddaughter Sabrina and grandson Peter; by her daughter-in-law Jacqueline and grandson Christopher and granddaughter Nikola. A women of many talents and determination she had almost to the end a drive for life that touched all who knew her. Tenacious in her love of family and friends, a part of her heart always stayed in Nova Scotia. She loved water, sun and wind whether at Hubbards or at Sand Bay on the Ottawa, or on the balcony at St. Patrick's. A potter of distinction, she taught ceramics for many years in the Ottawa school system. She was lovingly tended in her last years by the caregivers at St. Patrick's, and the family extends its great gratitude to them. Grandfather of Jeffrey and Bill, and great-grandfather of his special Lauren. Will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Jessica, Amanda, Sean, Adam, Thomas, Nick, Dean and Laura. Dr. Armstrong led a distinguished career with Health and Welfare Canada. As the first Director of the newly created Medical Care Program, he implemented public health insurance in Canada in 1967.
