Corcoran, Gordon Eugene

passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital at age 46. Gordon, beloved son of Elva and the late William. Dear brother to Mildred Barrett, Joe (Joanne) Corcoran, Carol Lindsay, Irene (Mark) Radford, Joan (Brent) Gibson, Bernadette Corcoran, Andrew (Jennifer) Corcoran and many nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church (70 Toronto St. N. Uxbridge) on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. The family would like to thank Community Living for the wonderful care given to Gordon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Living Durham North. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Low and Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge (905) 852-3073.

Podpora, Jessie Anderson (Nee: Russell)

She passed away peacefully on Friday, December 31st, 2010 in her 84th year, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley Podpora and her sister Charlotte Russell. She will be sadly missed by her devoted children, Jean Hughes, Bill (Alan), Chester, Stanley (Linda), Wally (Debbie), Pauline (Ray) Snoddon, Ian (Sue), Charlotte (Ernie) Pase and Helen (Colin) Harte; grandchildren, great – grandchildren and many friends.Friends were received at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main St. South, Uxbridge, (905) 852 – 3073 on Tuesday January 4th, 2011 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. A funeral was held in the chapel on Wednesday January 5th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations made to a charity of your choice.

Hassard, Robert Harry

Peacefully on Thursday December 30th, 2010 at his family cottage. In his 82nd year. Bob, beloved husband of the late Helen. Dear father to Bill and his wife Kathy, Kim and her husband Ted, and Jacqui. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Scott (Katie), Jeff (Kim), Teresa (Brian), Kristy (Kevin), Tracey (Jimmy), Rod, Karley, Andrew, Ashley and his great – grandchildren Kira, Brianna, Evan, Jeremy, Dylan and Brandon. Friends were received at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main St. South, Uxbridge, (905) 852 – 3073 on Monday January 3rd, 2011 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Service to Celebrate Bob’s life was held in the chapel on Tuesday January 4th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Sick Children’s Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

Bell, Kathleen (Kay)

passed away with family by her side on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa at the age of 83. Kay Bell wife of the late Samuel Bell. Loving mother of Garth (Lynn) Bell, Maureen (Nick) Nicholls, Brian (Bonnie) Bell, Grant (Shirley) Bell and Hope (Robert) Young. Dear grandmother of 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Family and friends will be received at the Low and Low Funeral Home 1763 Reach St. Port Perry (905) 985-7331 on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 12 – 2 p.m. A complete funeral service will be held in the chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. Memorial donations to Port Perry Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

Thornhill, Kenny

passed away at his home with his family and friends at his side on Wedneday, December 29, 2010. Kenny, beloved husband of Wendy. Loving father of Jesse. Dear brother of Bruce (Michelle) Thornhill. Stevenson, William (Bill)

November 14, 1920 - December 29, 2010

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Bill in Port Perry with his family by his side. Devoted husband and soul mate for 67 years to Jean. Loving father of Norma (Larry) Bertuzzi, Jennifer (Bill) Purkis and Bill. Adored grandfather of Kelly (Scott), John (Kim), Shannon, Michael (Wendi) and Jennie (Dave). Cherished great grandfather of 11. Remembered by Billy, Norah, Phyllis and Doris and family in Belfast. Bill was born in Belfast and served in the R.A.F. in WWII. He emigrated to Canada in 1953 and was a former Executive of Noranda Mines and Millbrook Industries. Special thanks to Dr. K. Smith and staff of Lakeridge Health Port Perry, to CCAC Durham and Community Care Port Perry. Family and friends were received at the Low and Low Funeral Home 1763 Reach St., Port Perry on Friday December 31, 2010 from 11 to 12 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bill was held in the chapel on Friday at 12 p.m. If desired memorial donations to Community Care Durham would be appreciated.

Petrie, Eleanor Etive (Nee: Anderson)
December 23, 1922 – December 26, 2010

passed away peacefully at King Nursing Home in Bolton on Sunday, December 26, 2010. Eleanor fell asleep in the Lord at the age of 88 after a long illness. Cherished daughter of Hughina MacPhail and Albert Anderson of Scotland. Predeceased by her husband Percy Petrie and her Son IIan Petrie. Loving mother of Carmen (Dwayne) of Cavan, Caroline (James) of Caledon, and Alastair (Kim)of Shelburne. Grandmother to Leo, Yolanda, Tatum, Ashleigh, Justin, Aidan, Ariiannah, Ian, Nicholas and great grandchildren Raili and Hayden. Sister to Laurette (Jack) Sayer, John (Jean) Anderson and Albert (Peggy) Anderson and many nieces and nephews.Eleanor was born in Glasgow, Scotland and attended Glasgow University graduating with a Degree in Chemistry. Eleanor was made a member of the British Association of Chemists on June 30, 1951. She was an avid reader and loved to play golf in her younger years. It was on the golf course in England that she met her husband. She worked as a Senior Chemist in England before immigrating to Vancouver, B.C. at the age of 34. She worked at Cheeseborough Pond’s in Markham from 1967 – 1983 as a chemist in Research and Development and Quality Assurance until she retired.

Briscoe, Mary

passed away peacefully on December 20, 2010 at Lakeridge Health, Port Perry with her daughter by her side. In her 88th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband Mel. Loving mother of Kathy Briscoe and son-in-law Dave Colvin. Cherished Nana to her grandson William Colvin.
Family and friends will be received at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 1763 Reach St, Port Perry, ON, (905) 985 – 7331 on Thursday, December 23, 2010 for a service in the chapel at 10:00 a.m. In memory of Mary, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Burns Presbyterian Church (Ashburn, ON).

Waite, Marion Elizabeth (nee: Wright)

passed away on Sunday, December 19th, 2010, at Markhaven Home, Markham, ON, for Seniors in her 86th year. She was predeceased by her husband Glenn in 1986, and her brother Elwood Wright, of Brighton/Belleville area as well as her parents Ross and Violet Wright of Dundonald, ON. Marion is survived by her only daughter, Connie Marion Wells (Edwin) of Uxbridge, ON, her two grandsons Kevin (Shannon) and her great grandson Kaleb of Richmond Hill, ON, and Gregory of Uxbridge, ON. She leaves a loving sister, Aileen Stimers of Liverpool, New York and many loving nieces and nephews and their families from Canada and New York.
Marion was born in Dundonald, ON, (near Colborne) and when she married she moved to St. Catharines where she spent the rest of her life, an active member of Westminster United Church and its choir until she physically was not able to attend. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Teodorini and his staff, Dr. P. O’Reilly and the staff at Shaver Rehab Hospital and the Homecare givers from Pro – Wellness for their respect and care for Marion.
A funeral service for Marion took place at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main St. S. Uxbridge, ON (905) 852 – 3073 on Tuesday, December 21st, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with visiting from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. With reception to follow. Interment Waite cemetery , Brighton, ON. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society or charity of choice.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.lowandlow.ca. She will always be remembered for her warm hospitality, her beautiful garden that she took so much pride in and the wonderful goodies she prepared for us.

Arksey, Dennis

passed away suddenly in his home on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in his 62nd year. Dennis beloved husband of Janice. Loving father of Robert and Kiley. Devoted grandfather of Jarod and Matthew. He will be missed by his brother Allan (Clare) and nephews Kenneth (Taunia) and Dwayne (Cedar). Cherished friend Lou Cernigoi. Predeceased by his parents and his brother.

Balmer, Allan

Suddenly at home, December 10, 2010 in his 87th year. Predeceased by his older brother Clark, son Michael and daughter in law Jacqueline. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Kathryn (Fallis), daughters Ann and Tricia, son in law John Peters and grandchildren Heather, Meaghan, Tanya, Myrna and Allan. He will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Low and Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge.
