Freeman, Donald

passed away after his short battle with cancer in his 72nd year at Lakeridge Health in Port Perry on Thursday April 26, 2007 on the 2nd anniversary of the death of his loving wife Dorothy. Don Freeman loving father of Deb Freeman, Darla and Kelly Goreski, Dwayne and Sheri Freeman and Jackie and Chris Lane. Cherished grandfather of Katie, Tiffany, Melissa, Kyle and Mackenzie. Don will be forever in the heart of his loving companion Connie Rowett. Predeceased by his parents George and Iris Freeman. Dear brother of George Jr. and his wife Brenda Freeman and Roy and his wife Betty-Ann Freeman. Don will be missed by his pal Dudley. Family and friends called at the Low & Low Funeral Home on Sunday April 29, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.. A funeral service was held in the chapel on Monday April 30, 2007 at 1 p.m.. Interment Uxbridge cemetery. Memorial donations to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation or the Scugog Animal Shelter would be appreciated.

Colwell, Bruce Albert Howard

passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 25, 2007 at Lakeridge Health in Port Perry. Bruce Colwell dearly beloved husband of Eleanor Colwell (nee Pickard) of Williams Point. Loving father of Mike and his wife Tammy Colwell and Marcia and her husband Ed Worona all of Bowmanville. Dear Papa of Sarah and Shaelyn Colwell and Sam and Jack Worona. Bruce will be sadly missed by his sister Linda Houston and his many nieces and nephews. Family and friends called at the Low & Low Funeral Home 1763 Reach St., Port Perry (905) 985-7331 on Saturday May 12, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.. A Lions Club service and a Memorial service to celebrate the life of Bruce Colwell was held at the Blackstock United Church 3483 Church St., Blackstock on Sunday May 13, 2007 at 2 p.m. with a time of visiting from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at the church on Sunday. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the ALS Society of Ontario would be appreciated. Memorial donations are to be made by cheque only.

Ballenger, Elizabeth (Betty)

Peacefully in Uxbridge on Monday, April 23, 2007 in her 95th year. Betty was predeceased by her sister Grace, Loving husband of 51 years, Fred, Her special daughter Sharon, eldest son Fred Jr., and caring daughter-in-law Donna. Devoted mother of Jack (Ellen), Bill, Ted (Carol), Maryanne and daughter-in-law Marion. Proud grandmother of Kim, Freddie III (Trish), Susan (Larry), Lisa (Chris), Jill (Tyler), Kelly, Katy (Doug), Amy, Crystal, Brad (Brett), Jason (Ashley) and great grandmother to Melanie, Shayne, Jade, Madison and Kyrah. “The Uxbridge Legion dance floor will never be the same.” Family received visitors on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge. Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Community Living Durham North or North Durham Hospice would be greatly appreciated.

Daviau, Simone Marie

Peacefully and courageously entered into rest on Monday, April 9, 2007 at Southlake Regional Health Center, Newmarket at age 84. Loving mother of Diane (Mike) Lynch, Helen (George) Misseri, Ronny (Irene) Daviau, Margaret Daviau, Raymond (Marg) Daviau. Sadly missed by her brother Leo (Joy) Daviau. Loved by her nieces and nephews. Loving Grandmother of 24 and caring Great-Grandmother of 27. She will be remembered for her many years of volunteer work at Chances Are. Special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at Southlake Regional Health Centre. Thanks to the sisters and brothers of Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall.
A Memorial Service was held at Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main Street South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. with visitation one-hour prior. Reception followed at 20 Perry Street Uxbridge.

Grushecki, Walter

It is with great sadness that the loving family of Walter Grushecki announces his passing in his 97th year on Sunday, April 8, 2007. He leaves daughter Denise, son-in-law Dave Ferns, grandson Larry Lamanna, granddaughter Lucille and her husband Mike Ste. Marie, great-grandchildren Carter and Maya Ste. Marie. Special thank you to the Emergency Nurses and Doctors and the Medical/Surgical Ward Nurses and Doctors for all their love and caring support. Family and friends were welcomed at the Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main Street South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 on Saturday, April 14, 2007 for visitation 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. Funeral Service followed. Walter has gone to join his wife Irene in the pearly gates of heaven. He leaves us all with the memory of a loving determined man, with the quiet and gentleness he poured out his love for family, friends, his love for all life and nature. Memorial donations to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Barclay, Mary

passed away peacefully on April 4, 2007 – 6 days before her 75th birthday. Loving wife of James Barclay of 54 years. Mother of Linda Major (Eric), Jim Barclay (Sandra) and Lisa Highstead (Laird). Grandmother of Michelle (Scott), Christine, Michael, Mark, and Katherine. Heart warm thank-you to all of the nurses and doctors at the Port Perry Hospital for the wonderful care Mary received. A Celebration of Mary’s life was held on Saturday, April 7, 2007 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Low and Low Funeral Home 1763 Reach Road Port Perry (905) 985-7331. In lieu of flowers donations made to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

Beach-McDonald, Ruth
(Nee: Stevenson)

Passed away, suddenly on Thursday, March 29, 2007 in her home. Ruth was the loving wife of the late Robert McDonald and the late Stanley Beach. Beloved mother of Ron Beach, Sheila Elliot, and Hugh Beach; stepmother of Morley McDonald. Loving grandmother of Doug and Andy Beach; Michelle and Lisa Elliot; great-grandmother of Ben, Carissa and Caitlyn. Sadly missed by her brother Morley Stevenson. A visitation was held at the Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main Street South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 on Sunday, April 1, 2007 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service was held in the chapel on Monday, April 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one-hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Moore, (Bill) William Robert RCAF
1941 – 1945

Bill went peacefully from Community Nursing Home in Port Perry on Thursday March 29, 2007, at age 85, to join his beloved son Jack who went to be with Jesus in October 2005. A TTC operator out of Eglinton Division for 37 years Bill will always be remembered for his wonderful wit and gentle spirit. An avid sports fan he loved his Leafs and Jays. He was the life of any gathering. Anyone who knew him loved him. Bill personified the terms gentleman, integrity and honesty. Bill will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered, by all who knew him; especially Dorothy, his loving wife of 64 years, son Ron and his wife Lois, daughter-in-law Aileen Moore; grandchildren David, Paula, Brian, Paul, Maria and Heather. He also leaves great grandchildren Justin, Colin, Bailey and Jonathon a noble legacy to live up to. The world is a sadder place today, and heaven richer. Dad is with Jesus. John 3:16. Respects were paid at the Low and Low Funeral Home, Port Perry 1763 Reach Street (905) 985-7331 on Friday March 30, 2007 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Royal Canadian Legion service commenced at 7:30 p.m. A celebration of his life was held on Saturday March 31, 2007 in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. Visitation 1 hour prior. Interment Mount Pleasant cemetery , Toronto. In William’s memory, memorial donations to the Salvation Army or the ALS Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Skinner, Betty Marie

Entered into rest on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital. At age 77. Betty beloved wife of the late James. Dear mother to Wendy (Bill) Wray, Wanda (Garth) Mole, Stephen (Carol) Skinner, Wayne (Anita) Skinner and Warren (Ellen) Skinner. Fondly remembered by her grandchildren Tammie, Billy, Dawn, Jay, Jason, Jimmy, Taylor, Shayne, Brianne, Christopher and Taryn. Great grandchildren Ty, Rylie and Cole. Also remembered by Kevin, Stewart, Danielle and Diz. Rested at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge (905) 852-3073 on Saturday, March 31, 2007 from 12 noon until service time in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. Cremation followed. In Betty’s memory donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Haliburton Highlands S.S. Scholarship Fund.

Brown, Mary Mona

Mary Mona Brown, formerly Barnett, nee Mc Gregor, passed away peacefully in her sleep, at 91 years of age, on Saturday, March 24, 2007, at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital. She was the daughter of Alex and Mary McGregor (nee Matthews). She was predeceased by her husbands Jack Barnett and George Brown. She was an independent and strong woman who overcame many challenges in her life. She will be remembered fondly as a loving sister by Thelma, a devoted mother by John (Marion), a doting grandmother by Cindy (Tom) and Katie (Jeff), an adoring great grandmother by Bailey, Reilly, Carleigh and Colton, and a fond aunt by Sally and Murray and family. Mary was a kind and generous friend to many. A memorial service to celebrate her life was held on Saturday, March 31 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Family and friends were received at the Low and Low Funeral Home 23 Main Street South Uxbridge (905) 852-3073. Donations can be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
