Thomas Lawrence White
Filled life with love, laughter, and music.
Tom was born on July 24, 1930, in Douglastown (Gaspe) Quebec, to Colin White and Eugenie (nee McInnes) White. He was one of six children and is survived by his siblings, Rita Rehel, Augustin White, Sylva White, Rosalie Ash and Paul White. He grew up on the Gaspe peninsula and moved to Toronto, Ontario, as a young man. Here he met the woman he later married in 1972--Carolyn (nee Contois) White. They moved to Midland, Ontario, Carolyn's hometown, and raised their family. They renewed their vows with a second wedding celebration on June 22, 1991, just prior to moving to the sleepy community of Elliot Lake. Tom worked for the Simcoe County school board for the majority of his adult years but his true passion laid elsewhere. Tom was born with an artist's soul, an intelligent mind, and a desire to learn. He was an accomplished folk artist and his many creations are dearly cherished. He was a natural musician and combined his artistic talent with his love of music, creating over 40 handcrafted violins throughout his life. Tom loved to share his life with the people that brought him the greatest joy. He is forever in the hearts of his wife, Carolyn, and the six children he so adored, Janet Cousineau, Thomas Powell Jr., Susan Powell, Randy Powell, Bill White, and Lori Anne Chipman-White. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, William Powell and Thomas Powell III. He was loved in life and in death by his grandchildren Jeffery Cousineau, Carrie Ann Powell, Matthew Powell, Cheri Lynn King, Shelly Hack, Sarah Tallack, Emma Powell, Justin White, Shawn White, and Kurtis White. If a man's legacy is truly the generations he leaves behind, Tom has left behind a great one in his 6 children, his 10 surviving grandchildren, and his 18 great-grandchildren. Tom had so much love to give that as his children grew and embraced their lives, he sought companionship with the five dogs that he considered his furry children, Go-Go, Daisy, Joey, Lee-Anne, and Tiny Tim. Upon Tom's death, he was living in Sarnia, and was 79 years of age. He passed away quietly on September 24, 2009, at the Bluewater Hospital in Sarnia. Visitation for Tom will be held at Carson Funeral Homes – JH Lynn Chapel, 290 First Street, Midland (705) 526-6551 on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at 1:00 PM. Service will be held at St. Margaret's Church in Midland at 3:00 PM, with burial to follow at Lakeview cemetery. After the burial, friends and family are invited back to Carson's Funeral Home for refreshments to celebrate the life and love of Thomas White.
