TAUNO IVAR ‘TONY’ BOIND

Tauno "Tony" Boind, 71, of 1013 Second St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Thursday, July 31, 1997 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
He was born July 27, 1926 in Fort Frances to the late Ivar and Maria Boind.
Tony was raised, attended school and had lived his entire life in Fort Frances. In his earlier years, he worked and sailed on the Great Lakes, and Canada Car in Thunder Bay. During World War II, Tony enlisted with the Canadian armed services and was stationed in Canada. Upon his discharge, he returned to the bush to work with his dad.
Upon leaving the logging industry, he began his employment for the Town of Fort Frances, where he worked for 26 years until his retirement in 1991.
Tony was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 in Fort Frances. He loved painting in his earlier years, and in later years, socializing with his friends, playing crib, pool, and horseshoes. He also enjoyed gardening, modelling, and jigsaw puzzles for pastime.
On Dec. 30, 1983, Tony was united in marriage to Patricia "Pat" McDiarmid, who predeceased him on March 1, 1985. He also was predeceased by three sisters; one brother; and by one brother-in-law, Bronc DePiero.
Tony is survived by his step-daughter, Teresa and husband, James Dobie, and their children, Andrew and Katherine, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; one sister, Aune DePiero; and one nephew, Jim DePiero and wife, Pat, and their son, Matthew, all of Fort Frances, Ont.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 4, 1997 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Father Neil Haight O.M.I. officiated, with interment in Riverview cemetery in Fort Frances. The Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Colour Party provided a military tribute during the service.
Friends visited Sunday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Honourary pallbearers were Ed Kivimaki, Pentti Aho, Ray Skirten, Mel Humphrey, Doug Derendorf, and Mike Shelton.
In memoriam donations may be made to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 840 Frenette Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 2N5, or the La Verendrye General Hospital Continuing Care Unit, 110 Victoria Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 2B7.

ALMA LENORE HAW

Alma Haw, 84, of Apt. #2, Morley Meadowside Manor, Stratton, Ont., passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997 at the Rainy River hospital.
Alma was born Oct. 25, 1912 in North Branch, Ont. to the late Tom and Lillian Brannan. Alma was raised and attended school in North Branch.
She was married to Carman Haw on Aug. 10, 1932. Alma and Carman resided in North Branch, where they raised their family and worked side by side on the family farm, their general store, and the post office.
They moved to Stratton in 1969. Alma moved to her apartment at the Manor in 1989.
Alma was a member of the North Branch and Stratton United Churches, and an active member of the United Church Women and of the Stratton Senior Citizens.
Alma was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who always put her family first and foremost in her life. She enjoyed family gatherings, chocolates, her house plants, playing cards, and watching afternoon television. Visits from family and friends were the highlight of her day.
Alma especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always interested in hearing about their activities and their achievements.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carman Haw, on May 8, 1988; by four brothers, Raymond, George, Thad, and Len Brannan; and two sisters in infancy.
Alma will be sadly missed by her sons, Bradley and wife, Edith, of North Branch, Ont., Allan and wife, Opal, of Wabigoon, Ont., Alvin and wife, Esther, of Dryden, Ont., and Howard and wife, Marjorie, of North Branch, Ont.; by daughters, Lillian and husband, Joe Dushanek, of Minitonas, Man., June and husband, Bryan Bonot, of Stratton, Ont., and Joan and husband, Murray Aikenhead, of Rainy River, Ont.; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Edith Bye of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997 at 2 p.m. at the Stratton United Church in Stratton, Ont. Rev. John McFarlane officiated, with interment in Pineridge cemetery in North Branch, Ont.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1997 from 7-9 p.m. at the Rainy River Funeral Home in Rainy River, Ont.
Pallbearers were Melvin Brannan, Doug Brannan, Milton Bye, Harley Bye, Bradley Brannan, and Gerald Fadden.
In memoriam donations may be made to the Stratton United Church Memorial Fund, Stratton, Ont., P0W 1N0, or to the Rainy River Hospital Building Fund, 113 Fourth St., Rainy River, Ont., P0W 1L0.

IDA ROSALIE OLIMB

Ida Rosalie Olimb (Tefs), 79, of Thunder Bay, Ont., passed away peacefully July 29, 1997. She had lived in Winnipeg, Atikokan, and Fort Frances as well as Thunder Bay.
Ida was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her sister, Irene of Vancouver; brothers, Bill of Calgary, Alta., and Ernie (Helen) of Gladstone, Man.; daughter, Darlene (Roy) Taylor of Dryden, Ont.; son, Keith of Thunder Bay, Ont.; grandchildren, Christa and Toey of Fort Frances, Ont., Andrew of Dryden, Ont., and Devin and Connor of Thunder Bay, Ont.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1980; her sister, Nora; as well as her mother and father.
Cremation has taken place, with a graveside service slated Monday, Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. in the cemetery at Sprague, Man.

DOROTHY KATHLEEN BENINGER

Dorothy Kathleen Beninger, 84, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997. She was born Sept. 12, 1912 in Emo, Ont. to the late Walter and Edith Radbourne.
Mrs. Beninger lived most of her life in Emo. She was a school teacher for 35 years, and taught in Emo, Fort Frances, Nestor Falls, Finland, Black Hawk, Morson, and Arbor Vita. She was a member of the Fort Frances-Rainy River Women Teachers’ Association.
She also was the greatest cook, and enjoyed baking for the Emo Fair. Her biggest joy, however, was raising and caring for her family.
Dorothy was united in marriage on Jan. 1, 1940 at the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Fort Frances to Lyall, who survives with three sons, Murray and wife, Sharlene, of Fort Frances, Ont., Ted and wife, Glenda, of Vancouver, B.C., and Robert and wife, Marnie, of Emerson, Man.; and one daughter-in-law, Laurie Beninger of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Brad Beninger and wife, Patty, of Fort Frances, Ont., Julie and husband, Todd Malpass, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Murray Beninger Jr. of Fort Frances, Ont., Dane and Kyla Beninger of Vancouver, B.C., and Robyn, Neil and Daniel Beninger of Emerson, Man.; one great-granddaughter, Katie Beninger of Fort Frances, Ont.; one sister, Violet and husband, Lyall Baker, of Vancouver, B.C.; one brother, Ken Radbourne and wife, Peggy, of Fort Frances, Ont.; one sister-in-law, Minnie Radbourne of Emo, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Dan Beninger on June 7, 1990; a grandson, Paul Beninger on Dec. 27, 1980; a sister, Jenny Radbourne; brothers, Len and Jack Radbourne; and sister-in-law, Edith Radbourne.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home. Archdeacon Garth Clifford officiated, with interment in Barwick cemetery in Barwick, Ont.
Friends visited prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at Green Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Bob Radbourne, Calvin Radbourne, Paul Radbourne, Monty Howarth, Brad Beninger, and Murray Beninger Jr.

ALLISON LEIGH BROWN

In loving memory of Allison Brown, who passed away in Dryden, Ont. on Saturday, July 5, 1997.
Allison Leigh was born Nov. 24, 1977 in London, Ont., the beloved daughter of Janice and David Brown; sister of Ryan Brown; and granddaughter of Alice and Leo Brown of Fort Frances, Ont., and Muriel and Carman Brown of Port Stanley, Ont.
Allison also is survived by her great-grandmother, Martha Metcalf of Petrolia, Ont., and by many saddened relatives and friends whose lives she touched.
Family and friends were received at the Dryden Community Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 8, 1997 from 6-9 p.m.
A funeral service was held at the First United Church in Dryden on Wednesday, July 9, 1997 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Jim Kirkpatrick officiating.
Interment was in the Dryden cemetery.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the charity of your choice through the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Ave., Dryden, Ont., P8N 2X3.

MARGARET ROBERTSON

Margaret Robertson, 81, of 901 Shevlin Ave. Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 1997 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
Margaret was born March 9, 1916 in Fort Frances to the late Wellington and Edith bishop. In January, 1938, she was united in marriage to Percy Robertson. Her main interests were crafts and her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Percy, in 1963.
Margaret is survived by sons, Earl and wife, Gladys, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Lloyd and family of Vancouver, B.C.; daughters, Betty Gallow and family of Fort Frances, Ont., and Rose Kreger and family of Bergland, Ont.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by her sister, Helen and husband, Charlie Hammond, of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Margaret’s request, a private graveside service was held Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997 at Riverview cemetery in Fort Frances.

TRACY THOMAS JOSEPH SPENCER

Tracy Thomas Joseph Spencer, 53, of 477 Hill Rd., R.R. #1, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Man.
He was born June 17, 1944 on Calumet Island, Que. to George and Kathleen Spencer.
Tracy enjoyed fishing and hunting, and having coffee with his friends, and was always helping others. He also loved his rock work and his flowers. He was a very gifted and loving person. His biggest thing in life, however, was his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Rolene, and his son, Travis, of Fort Frances, and his father, George, of Salmon Arm, B.C.
Also surviving are seven brothers, Marvin, Terry, David, Ronnie, Roger, George Jr., and Wayne, and six sisters, Aloma, Donna, Shirley, Audrey, Brenda, and Wanda, and their families; sisters-in-law, Patricia Venne and Janet Williams, and brother-in-law, Archie Hogan, and their families; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nephews; as well as a multitude of cousins, two aunts, and one uncle.
He was predeceased by an infant son, Trevor; his mother, Kathleen; and both his father and mother-in-law.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, 1997 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home with Father Don McLeod O.M.I. officiating.
Cremation took place in Winnipeg, Man.
Interment will take place in Holy Cross cemetery in Fort Frances.
Honourary pallbearers will be Don Venne, Warren Williams, Archie Hogan, Ernie bird, Mel Watson, Phillip Bourre, and his brothers, Marvin, Terry, David, Ronnie, Roger, George, and Wayne.
Tracy also gave hope to several other people through the organ donor program program. Gone but never forgotten!
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario c/o Dave Thornton, 840 Frenette Ave., Fort Frances, Ont. P9A 2N5, Canadian Diabetes Association, Box 655, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M9, or the charity of your choice.

LILLIAN MINNIE SUMMERS

Lillian Summers, 77, of 524 Third St. W., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 1997 in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital (Port Arthur), Thunder Bay, Ont.
Lillian was born Jan. 5, 1920 in Stratton, Ont. to the late John and Lillie Doupe. She was raised in Rainy River District and on May 17, 1941, she was united in marriage to Roy Summers in Thunder Bay, Ont.
While Roy served overseas in W.W. II, Lillian lived in Thunder Bay from 1941-1946. After Roy’s return, Lillian and Roy returned to Rainy River District and settled in Fort Frances, where they raised their two sons.
Lillian was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 Ladies’ Auxiliary. She also enjoyed reading, sewing and camping but most of all, she loved her family and will be missed by them.
She was predeceased by her three brothers, George, Bill, and John Doupe; and three sisters, Evelyn Wallace, Kay Mutch, and Grace Carmody.
Lillian is survived by her husband of over 56 years, Roy Summers, of Fort Frances, Ont.; two sons, Allan Summers and his wife, Rosan, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Robert Summers and his wife, Mary Ann, of Regina, Sask.; and five grandchildren, Roy, Julie, Jocelyn, Erin, and Adrian Summers.
A private memorial service was held Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Patrick Playfair officiated, with interment in Riverview cemetery in Fort Frances.
In memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Box 444, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8.
