Bertha Margaret Hyatt, 97, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997.
She was born April 23, 1900 to the late Francis and Sara Jane Leeson.
Bertha was born and raised in Rainy River District, and took an active part in the Pentecostal Church for many years. She enjoyed her flower gardens, and also her crocheting and knitting.
She was predeceased by her husband, James, on Oct. 26, 1971; one son, Carl in 1961; her daughter, Daisy Whitehead, in 1991; son-in-law, Aaron Whitehead; granddaughter, Donna; and grandson, Leonard.
Bertha is survived by one daughter, Joan and husband, Jim Daw, of Emo, Ont.; and four sons, James of Devlin, Ont., Stan and wife, Verna, of Dryden, Ont., Ron and wife, Hazel, of Devlin, Ont., and Marshall and wife, Mona, of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving are numerous grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home. Pastor Dean Patrow officiated, with interment in Box Alder cemetery.
Friends visited Friday evening, Aug. 29, 1997 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Keith Hyatt, Carl Hyatt, Dennis Hyatt, Stuart Daw, Fred Whitehead, and Jim Tilley.

WALTER MICHAEL MCFAYDEN
Michael McFayden, 26, of Nestor Falls, Ont., passed away accidentally on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997 at Katamiagamak Lake, Nestor Falls, Ont.
Michael was born Sept. 8, 1970 in Fort Frances, Ont. He graduated from Fort Frances High School and then went on to Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ont., where he graduated from the Aviation & Flight Management course on the Dean’s list.
In April, 1992, Michael was employed as a local guide. He worked in logging and the past five years as a commercial pilot for Nestor Falls Fly-in Outpost.
On Nov. 11, 1996, Michael was united in marriage to Susan Elias and together they made their home in Nestor Falls, Ont. Michael loved the outdoors, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and especially flying, having flown several different aircrafts such as the Super Cub, the Beaver, the Otter, and Twin Beach.
Michael will be remembered for his caring ways, his sense of humour, his unique style of dancing, and always ready to live life to the fullest. His wife, family, friends, and flying were his greatest joys.
He was predeceased by his grandfather, Borden McFayden (June 9, 1993).
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Susan McFayden; parents, Merle McFayden and wife, Katy; brother, Jason McFayden, all of Nestor Falls, Ont.; grandmother, Muriel McFayden and grandparents, Jim Plumridge and wife, Vi, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 5, 1997 at 2 p.m. at the United Church in Nestor Falls, Ont. The Rev. Bob Kayes will officiate.
Honourary pallbearers will be Dave Beaushene, Jeff McLean, Mike Gate, Shane Pope, Dwayne Roen, Mark LaVerdiere, and Tanya Olson.

WALTER PRYMAK SR.
Walter Prymak Sr., 65, of 1127 First St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away unexpectedly at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Man. on Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997 with his wife and two children at his side.
He was born Jan. 16, 1932 in Fort Frances to the late John and Eva Prymak.
Walter was raised in Fort Frances, and along with his wife, they together built a beautiful cabin at Bear’s Pass (Swell Bay) for his family to enjoy. He loved his fishing, trapping with his son, hunting, woodworking, and gardening. He also took great pride in his grandchildren, Erika and Wesley Anderson, and was looking forward to the birth of Walter Jr. and Laurie’s baby in late October/early November.
He was united in marriage to Lucille Agnes Lee on Aug. 31, 1957.
Walter, in his younger years, worked as brewmaster for Beck’s Brewery until 1962, when he joined the Rainy River Board of Education as a caretaker until his recent retirement in February of this year. He had so many plans for his retirement.
He was predeceased by his father, John Prymak, on Dec. 16, 1981; and by his mother, Eva Prymak, on Sept. 6, 1989.
Walter is survived by his wife, Lucille, of 40 years; daughter, Wendy and her husband, Rudy Anderson, of Fort Frances, and their two children, Erika and Wesley; and son, Walter Jr. and his wife, Laurie, of Fort Frances.
He also is survived by two sisters, Blanche Blasky of Fort Frances, and Tina Hunter of Eagle Bridge, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Father Brian Primeau O.M.I. will officiate, with interment in Riverview cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends may visit Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Blasky, Gary Blasky, Cal Williamson, Kim Kozik, Mike Drazenovich, and Don Smeeth.
Honourary pallbearers will be George Drazenovich, Jack Miller, Barney Maher, Len Noonan, Keith Sutherland, Eugene Pierce, Carl Piotrowski, and Kris Von Niebelschutz.

PRISCELLA MARGARETTE HOWELLS
Priscella Margarette Howells (Perreault), born May 12, 1940, passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 1997.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Leonard; and children, Karl (Marie), Leonard Jr. (Rochelle), Donald (Rhonda), Cary (Billie), Leslie (Jana), Wendy Petsnick (Tony), Lynn Geurts (Ken), Susan Chenier (Scott), Lennette Howells (Joe), and Patti DeGagne (Mark).
She is remembered by in-laws, Bruce Petsnick, Dorla Howells, Dave Geurts, and Guy Chenier. And she will be sadly missed by 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was predeceased by her father, Anselm Perreault; mother, Veronica Guimond; one daughter, Nicole; and one granddaughter, Samantha.
Her life revolved around her children and grandchildren.
A memorial service is being held Friday, Sept. 26, 1997 at Lady of Lourdes Church at Couchiching First Nations at 10:30 a.m.

Funeral services for Betty Berger Lessard, 82, of Namakan Lake, were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997 at the Crane Lake Chapel. Rev. Craig Haberman officiated.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral, with interment in the Forest Home cemetery of Buyck, Mn. Arrangements were made by the Mlaker Funeral Home of Cook, Mn.
Betty passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 1997 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was born July 15, 1915 in Fort Frances, the daughter of Neil and Isabelle (Rudolph) Berger. She grew up and attended school in Fort Frances. She first spent summers at Namakan Lake, then moved there, where she lived the rest of her life.
On Aug. 24, 1955 in Fort Frances, she married Leon Lessard, who predeceased her in July, 1956.
Betty was an outdoors person. She was a guide, trapper, pilot of her own plane, mink farm owner, and operator of Berger’s Trading Post and Cabins on Namakan Lake for the past 15 years.
She is survived by one nephew, Andrew Neil (Mary) Scott of Moutltrie, Ga.; one niece, Glennda Scott, of Crane Lake, Mn.; four grand-nieces, Kathy (Roger) Connor of Huntington Beach, Cal., Debora Scott of Shoreview, Mn., Lori Douglas of Mounds View, Mn., and Amy (Lance) Ulen of Circle Pines, Mn.; one grand-nephew, Darrell (Carole) Scott of Crane Lake, Mn.; and cousins, Judy (Edward) DeMarrais and Joan Melvin, both of Massachusetts, and Jane (Rudy) Sadler of Albuquerque, N.M.
