FLORENCE THERESA SCHRAM

Florence Schram, 89, longtime resident of Stratton, Ont., passed away Friday, May 8, 1998 with family by her side at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, Ont.
Florence was born Oct. 15, 1908 in Stratton to the late Charles and Mary Ann Jolicouer. She was raised in Stratton and on Oct. 26, 1926, she was united in marriage to Peter Jay Schram. Together, Florence and Peter farmed in Stratton and raised their family.
Florence was a member of the Stratton Catholic Church. She also enjoyed travelling, playing Bingo, gardening, picking berries, and making quilts for her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and will be sadly missed.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Jay Schram (March 16, 1984); son, Harold Leslie Schram and wife, Jackie; infant daughter, Hilda Schram; stepdaughter, Thelma and husband, Art Olson; son-in-law, William Bahnuik; grandchildren, Diane Nordin, Susan Halley, and Andra Schram; four brothers, Charlie, Pat, Vincent, and Thomas Jolicouer; sister, Bernadette Playford; and brothers-in-law, Bernard Flynn and Dave Oulette.
Florence is survived by three daughters, Jean and husband, Roy Legarie, of Fort Frances, Ont., Frances Bahnuik of Kenora, Ont., and Irene and husband, Stan Olson, of Stratton, Ont.; son, Lawrence Schram and wife, Grace, of Kenora, Ont.; stepson, Sidney Schram and wife, Violet, of Stratton, Ont.; 35 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Flynn of Fort Frances, Ont., and Stella Oulette of St. Catharines, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 12, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Father Lawrence Conlon O.M.I. officiated, with a private family burial held Wednesday, May 13, 1998 at Pattullo cemetery in Morley Township, Ont.
Eulogies were given by Valerie Bolen and Norma Ossachuk.
Friends visited Monday, May 11, 1998 from 7-8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Parish prayers were offered at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers were Donald Schram, Gordon Olson, Gordon Legarie, Leslie Schram, Linda Zilinski, David Schram, and Jerry Bolen.
The honourary pallbearers were all her grandchildren.
In memoriam donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 840 Frenette Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 2N5.

DONALD OLIVER CROSS

Donald Oliver Cross, 66, passed away suddenly Saturday, April 18, 1998 in Atikokan, Ont. He was born to Winnifred and Herb Cross on June 30, 1931 in the Barwick Hotel.
Don lived most of his life in the Atikokan area, where he was employed as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He was best known for his road building and logging industry work in the Flanders and Atikokan area.
He also was known to enjoy the odd bottle of beer with his friends.
He leaves behind to share their memories his son, Lanny (Kim) Cross and their children, Lyle, Jamie, and Lana; daughter-in-law, Eileen and their children, Paul, Marcia, and Diane; great-granddaughter, Autumn; son, Kevin (Rita) Cross and their children, Jason, Charmaine, and Carla; daughter, Tanis (Doug) Hampshire and their children, Robert and Ryan; brothers, Victor (Mickey) Cross, Bert (Delores) Cross, and Jack Cross; his twin sister, Doris (Gus) Anderson; sister, Florence (Ed) Lampi; sisters-in-law Corrine, Joan, and Jeanette; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Herbert Cross; mother, Winnifred (nee Izzard); sons, Raymond and Leslie Allan; and brothers, Arthur, William, and Edward.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 21, 1998 at the Riverview United Church in Atikokan, with Rev. Marilyn Mattson officiating.
Niece Angela Lampi, and granddaughters, Lana and Diane, read the scriptures. Memories were shared by Lanny Cross with a large turnout of family and friends.
Cremation of remains to rest at Nickleby Lake.

AUDREY (ORTON) MACHULA

Audrey (Orton) Machula passed away April 14, 1998, following a courageous battle with cancer, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Santa Clara, Cal. She was born in Fort Frances, Ont. on Dec. 19, 1924.
Audrey is survived by her husband of 50 years, Emmette; daughters, Janice (Mark) Christensen of Fortuna, Cal., and Arlyss (Gregg) Chastain of Fort Collins, Col.; son, Bruce Machula of San Jose, Cal.; four grandsons, Jasen and Ryan Christensen, Chad Webb, and Matthew Machula; her sister, Margaret Rousseau and family of Fort Frances, Ont.; brother-in-law, Ronald Machula of Beloit, Wis.; sister-in-law, Mildred (Allen) Rasmessen of Fresno, Cal.; aunts, Mary Bourdages of Nestor Falls, Ont., Ethel Reid of Emo, Ont., and Violet Horley of Edmonton, Alta.; and uncle, Reg Hogan of Fort Frances, Ont.
She was predeceased by son, Dean Ralph; parents, Lou and Ted Orton; in-laws, Ann and Adam Machula; sister-in-law, Carolyn Machula; and brother-in-law, Roland Rousseau.
It was Audrey's wish that she be cremated and her ashes scattered at sea.
We know that life goes on, that every spring the flowers will appear and birds will sing again. And we know that in our hearts, the memory of those whom we have loved will go on living forever.
Good-bye to a courageous lady--'til we meet again.

TRACY ANN ZUB

Tracy Ann Zub, of 145 Hudson Dr., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away quietly at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Man. on Aug. 13, 2000, with friends and family at her side.
She was born Dec. 14, 1957.
Throughout her lengthy illness, Tracy retained her loving nature, and touched the hearts of the many who cared for her at both the McKellar Hospital in Thunder Bay and the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
Tracy was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, John and Katerina Zub; her maternal grandparents, Carl and Muriel Thesenvitz; uncles, Alex and Mike Zub, and Bill Galandzy; and aunts, Netty Galandzy and Sally Zub.
Tracy is missed by her parents, Roy and Joyce Zub of Fort Frances; brothers, Doug Zub (Kim) of Fort Frances, David Zub (Susan) of Coldwater, Ont., and Howard Zub (Betsy) of Fort Frances; and nieces and nephews, Tiffany Zub, Serene Zub, Anya Zub, Johnathan Zub, Carmen Zub, Carly Zub, and Cole Schierer.
Also surviving are uncles, Edward Zub (Jean) of Fort Frances, Harry Zub of International Falls, Mn., Dayton Thesenvitz (Doris) of Lacombe, Alta., and Garry Thesenvitz (Mary) of Red Lake; aunts, Katherine Zub of Fort Frances, Elly Zub of Fort Frances, Jean Pollard (Bob) of Fort Frances, Hazel Strain (Walter) of Nestor Falls, and Lorraine Ponse (John) of Gold River, B.C.; numerous cousins; and her many special friends at the Fort Frances and District Association for Community Living.
Pallbearers will be Laureen Vandetti, Kim LePine, Terri Perron, Terry Duffy, Patricia Osmar-Hartlin, and Fawn Dustin.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 18, 2000 at 9 a.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, followed by funeral services at 10 a.m., with Rev. Patrick Playfair officiating.
Interment will be held at the Pineridge cemetery in North Branch, Ont. at 2 p.m.
In memoriam donations may be directed to the Knox United Church Benevolent Fund, the Fort Frances and District Association for Community Living, or the charity of your choice.

MARTHA DURBIN

It is with great sadness that the family of Martha (Dolly) Henrietta Durbin announces her passing Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000 at the age of 81.
Her main interests were the time spent with her family, her home in which she enjoyed baking for everyone, and reading tea leaves. Going to her grandsons’ hockey games was a special joy for her.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of 53 years, Samuel; one daughter, Dianne (Reino); one son, Dann (Tracy); five grandchildren, Blake, Marlla (Tim), Ashley, Adam, and Blair; and two great-grandchildren, Kylar and Timmy.
She also is survived by her sisters, Isabel Busch and Olive Fagerdahl, both of Fort Frances, Ont.; one brother, George Whitefield of Fort Frances; sisters-in-law, Mildred Whitefield of Fort Frances, and Roma Demerais of New Westminster, B.C.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was predeceased by parents, Reginald and Jemima Whitefield; brother, Reginald Whitefield Jr.; and sister, Vivian.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000 at 10 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Memorial service and luncheon followed at the Moose Hall (317 S. May St.)

CHARLES THOMAS PIERCE

Charles Thomas Pierce, 98, passed away suddenly Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000 at the Sioux Lookout District Health Centre in Sioux Lookout, Ont.
Charles was born April 13, 1902 in Reston, Man. and went to school at Kinross. He spent his younger days on the family farm.
At an early age, he moved to Brandon, Man. and then to Fort Frances, Ont. Looking for work there, he met and married Lanore Strain on Nov. 10, 1934. It was at this time he became a transport truck driver for Clarke Robertson.
In 1940, Charles enlisted in the RCAF and moved Lanore, Keith, and Jack to Rivers, Man. where he was stationed. It was there that Joanne arrived. He served until 1945 and was discharged at the rank of sergeant (Motor Pool).
Back in Fort Frances, he drove transport truck and then moved into the Wells Hardware Store. Douglas and Marlene joined the family in Fort Frances.
An avid curler, Charlie spent his winters with broom in hand and was respected for his sportsmanship and his love for the game--a true competitor.
In 1965, he moved to Sioux Lookout with Lanore, Joanne, Douglas, and Marlene. It was here that he got into the automobile business working for his brother, Al. He worked at the garage until the age of 75 when the family finally talked him into retiring.
He spent his leisure time gardening, lawn care, snow removal in town, and out at camp (some leisure). He continued curling and managed to find time for an occasional game of fun golf. Although not a fisherman, he dearly loved those many hours at camp on Pickerel Arm with his family and his many Missouri friends.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Lanore; brother, Alvin; sons, Keith (Patricia) Pierce, Jack (Shirley) Pierce, and Douglas (Julianne) Pierce; daughters, Joanne (Roderick) Ferguson, and Marlene (Norman) MacDonald; and grandchildren, Bryan, D’arcy, Janice, Brenda, Linda, Patricia, Jennifer, Kristin, Trisha, Monique, Conrad, Douglas, Jeanet, Todd, Jason, and Kelly Dawn.
He also is survived by 16 great-grandchildren.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Edward; sisters, Mary, Elizabeth, and Laura; and his son, James Alexander.
His love and memory will live on forever in the hearts and minds of those who were blessed to have known him. Charlie truly was a family man who loved his family dearly. He will be forever missed.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Church in Sioux Lookout, with Rev. Beverly Brazier officiating.
Interment of ashes followed in Northway cemetery (Legion Section).
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Sioux Lookout New Hospital Fund or the charity of one’s choice through the Sioux Lookout Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1449 Sioux Lookout, Ont., P8T 1B9.

MARLENE BOSHKAYKIN

Marlene Boshkaykin, 63, of Seine River First Nation, Ont., passed away at McKellar General Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont. on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000.
She was born Nov. 15, 1936 on Rainy Lake, Ont. to the late Pete and Bertha Boshkaykin.
Marlene lived most of her life in Seine River First Nation, where she raised her family with Anson Boshkaykin. Her hobbies and interests included fishing, hunting, trapping, beading, making quilts, and other crafts in general.
She was predeceased by her four brothers, Edmund, Russell, Melvin, and Kenneth; and by one sister, Edith Jourdain.
Marlene is survived by her seven children, Clifford Boshkaykin, Mary and her husband, Joe Whitecrow, Calvin Boshkaykin, Delores Jourdain-Bowes, Al Burhnam, Melanie, and Jason, all of Seine River First Nation, Ont.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter, Lakeisha.
She also is survived by one brother, George Boshkaykin and wife, Rita, of Seine River First Nation, Ont.; three sisters, Loretta Shotley and Mary Emma Boshkaykin, both of Duluth, Mn., and Rosie Boshkaykin of Seine River First Nation, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A traditional burial ritual was held Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000 in the morning at the family residence in Seine River First Nation. Elder Harry Boshkaykin officiated, with interment in Seine River First Nation cemetery.
A wake was held Monday evening at the family residence in Seine River First Nation.
Pallbearers were Sheldon Whitecrow, Sky Boshkaykin, Gerald Morrison, Stewart Boshkaykin, Ringo Whitecrow, and Howard Whitecrow.
Honourary pallbearers were Fred Ottertail and Terry Potson.
In memoriam donations may be made to either the Canadian Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 655, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M9, or the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Box 807, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3N1.
