DAISY MAE (PEGGY) DeGAGNE

On Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 at La Verendrye Hopsital inFort Frances, Ont., Daisy Mae DeGagne (nee Bragg) peacefully passed away at the age of 84.
Daisy was born Aug. 27, 1923 in Essex County, Ont. to the late George and Lucy Bragg. In 1941, she was united in marriage to the late Aime DeGagne at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Frances, Ont.
Daisy always enjoyed company and was a welcoming host. She will be always remembered for her cooking and avid card games.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Rosemarie (Lawrence) Gagne of Ignace, Ont., Elaine Roset of Chilliwack, B.C., George (Yolande) of Elk Lake, Ont., Kathleen (Leo) Pruys of Devlin, Ont., and Jeanine (Darren) Bolger of Sudbury, Ont.
Daisy will be sadly missed by 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by her brother, Norbert (Jean) Bragg of Devlin, Ont.; sisters, Alice Milloy of Corpus Christie, Tex. and Bernice Stapleton of Chicago, Ill.; sister-in-law, Margaret (George) Bartlett of Fort Frances, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews.
Daisy was predeceased by her husband, Aime (1995); brother, Robert Bragg; and son-in-law, Robert Roset.
Family and friends were received at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont. on Friday, Dec. 14, 2007 from 7-9 p.m., with prayers held at 7 p.m.
Funeral mass was held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Monsignor George Bourguignon celebrant.
Interment to follow at a later date in Capreol cemetery in Sudbury, Ont.
The pallbearers were Don Bragg, Murray Bragg, Michael Caul, Darrell DeGagne, Leon DeGagne, and Yves DeGagne.
The honourary pallbearers were Daisy’s grandchildren.
If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal Fund, 316 Victoria Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 2C2.

BETH ALTON KISTNER (FADDEN)

It is with deep sadness that the family of Beth Kistner announces her passing on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 at Cremona, Alta.
Beth was born Nov. 18, 1957.
She is survived by three children, Shelley, Terry, and Joseph; five grandchildren; parents, Ronnie and Jim Alton; and five brothers and sisters.
She was predeceased by her husband, Cliff Kistner, in 2006.
Services will be held Friday, Dec. 14, 2007 in Alberta.

AILEEN MARJORY (DRADER) NORDIN

Aileen Nordin was born Nov. 10, 1925 in Empress, Alta., the daughter of William Drader and Mabel Swanson, the third of their sixth children.
She grew up and attended school in Lacombe, Alta.
In 1943, she enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, where she met Emmanuel (Mannie) Nordin. They were married Aug. 22, 1946 in Winnipeg, Man. and settled in Rainy River, Ont.
Aileen was active in the Knox United Church, a 4-H leader, and a longtime member of the Lake of the Woods Chapter of the Eastern Star, Miriam
Rebekah Lodge, and the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #54.
She worked as the secretary at McCrosson-Tovell School in Bergland, Ont. and as a receptionist at the Rainy River Clinic after their children were grown.
She was predeseased by her brother, Robert, and sisters, Dorothy Sawyer and Emily Batsch.
She is survived by her brother, Joseph, and sister, Marilyn; her husband of 61 years, Emmanuel Nels Nordin; her children, Rick, David, Pat, and Lori; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Aileen and Mannie lived for 50 years at 205 Second St. in Rainy River. She had resided in Rainycrest in Fort Frances, Ont. since 2001.
She passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 a few days after suffering a stroke.
A memorial service was held Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Rainy River, with Rev. Barbara Miller officiating.
Interment will follow at Bergland cemetery at a later date.

WILLA KNOTTS

At La Verendrye Hospital on Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, Willa Knotts (McDermid), of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at the age of 77.
Willa was born Oct. 17, 1930 to Margaret and William Kidd in Port Elgin, Ont., grew up there, and married Donald McDermid. Together they raised four children, Janis, Julie, Jennifer, and Rob.
Don’s career as driver examiner with the Ministry of Transport took them to Peterborough, Ottawa, Fort Frances, St. Thomas, and Chatham.
Willa returned to Fort Frances after Don’s death in 1996 and married long-time friend, “Laffy” Knotts, who passed away in 2001.
Willa enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to visit with her friend and neighbour, Roylene Badiuk, and often went out to dinner with friends.
Willa also liked to knit, bowl, do crossword puzzles, play bingo, and watch CNN. However, best of all, she loved to dance! When she met Roly Crawford, they shared their passion for dancing until cancer took his life in December, 2005.
Even after Willa was diagnosed with brain cancer in September, she travelled to Port Elgin and threw a “Good-Bye” party for family and friends. They were astounded by her courage and sense of humour.
Returning home, Willa bravely prepared for the future, confident and grateful that she had the best doctor in the world—Dr. Nugent!
Her illness was brief and she was able to remain in her home with her daughter, Julie, as caregiver. Willa spent only two days in the hospital, and her four children were with her when she passed away.
Willa is survived by daughter, Janis (Derek) McFee of Atikokan, Ont.; daughter, Julie Neufeld (Glenn Bradley and daughter, Jennifer) of Kenora, Ont.; daughter, Jennifer Hackman of Port Burwell; and son, Rob (Mary Ellen) McDermid of Dorchester, Ont.; and constant companion—her cat, Misty.
She also is survived by her grandchildren, Kimberley (Kurt) Brouillet, Shawnee (David) Larocque, Bobbi (Joel) Morris, Chad (Cindy) Hackman, Amy (Tony) Hackman, Joe Hackman, Rob Brown, McKenzie McDermid, and Kyle McDermid; as well as great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Peyton Larocque, Aaron, Alexander, and Sabra Brouillet, and Emma and Noah Morris.
A celebration of Willa’s life was held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Wayne McIntosh officiating.
Lunch followed at the Royal Canadian Legion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests in memoriam donations to Tamarack House.

ANNA M. MOSE

On Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., Anna M. Mose, 95, passed away peacefully with her family at her side.
Anna was born in Winnipeg, Man. on Nov. 29, 1912 to the late Ernest and Edna Angus. She was raised on the family farm in Burriss Township, Ont. and was united in marriage to the late Ernest (Ernie) Mose on Oct. 24, 1933.
They resided in Carpenter Township for a short while before settling in Burriss Township to raise their family, later moving to Fort Frances. Anna taught school at Burriss Consolidated and at St. Francis School in Fort Frances.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Ray (Linda) of Emo, Ont., Leslie (Rose) of Devlin, Ont., Wilbur (Helen) of Emo, Ont., Janet Mose of The Pas, Man., and Marvin (Carla) of Emo, Ont.
She will be sadly missed by her 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Anna also is survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Mose, Muriel Mose, and Violet Angus; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernie; sister, Helen Hyre; and brothers, Derward and Lenard Angus.
Family and friends were received at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007 from 7-9 p.m.
The funeral service was held Wednesday Dec. 12, 2007 at 11 a.m., with Alton Mose, David Jury, and Donna Mose officiating.
Interment in the Emo cemetery in Emo.
The pallbearers were David Mose, Christopher Mose, Scott Mose, Michael Mose, Brian Mose, and Leah Borys.

ALICE MARGARET EMES

Peacefully, with her family at her side, Alice Margaret Emes passed to her eternal rest after a short illness on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Alice was born Jan. 25, 1918 in Balmoral, Man. to the late William and Sarah Barbour. She was united in marriage to George William John Emes on Dec. 9, 1939, who predeceased her on May 19, 1998.
Alice was a member of the Evergreen Chapter #80 of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron twice in 1984-85 and 1993-94. She also was a member of Knox United Church in Fort Frances.
Mom was a proud, active member of the Rainycrest Auxiliary for many years and only begrudgingly gave up this work when her eyesight failed her. She also was an active member of the Fort Frances Horticultural Society. She loved her flowers and her vegetable garden.
Before she lost her sight, Mom loved to read and, in later years, spent hours of her time with the talking books from the library.
Alice was predeceased by her parents; her husband, George; two brothers, Wallace and Gordon and his wife, Molly Barbour; and her sister, Marion Rooke.
Alice also was very close to Dad’s brothers and sisters, and was predeceased by Bruce and his wife, Marge Emes, Thomas and his wife, Phame Emes, May Grottenburg, and David Thomson.
She is survived by her son, George (Cathy) and their daughters, Deborah Emes and Kimberly (Paul) Nicholson and their children, Paige and Joshua, all of Fort Frances, Ont.
She also leaves her daughter, Joan (Gordon) Nazvesky of Dryden, Ont., and their daughters, Alison (Sean) Anderson of Toronto, Ont. and Keri Nazvesky of Dryden, Ont.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
She will be laid to rest with Dad at the Fort Frances cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like in memoriam donations made to the Friends of Fort Frances Public Library, 363 Church St., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 1C9.
