It is with deep sadness that the family of Peter William Ballan Jr. announces his passing on Friday, Nov. 23, 2007 at his home in his sleep of natural causes.
Peter Jr. was born Sept. 15, 1958 in Fort Frances, Ont. He had worked in Toronto as an iron worker. He took great pride in his job and was a member of the International Association of Iron Workers.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and guiding, but most of all he loved his family.
He is survived by his parents, Pete and Sophie Ballan Sr.; and sisters, Toni (Charles) Anderson of Eagan, Mn. and Dorlene (Don) Parsons of Lakefield, Ont.
Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Sherri, Shane, Kelly, Brett, and Sean; great-nieces, Isabelle, Paige, and Brooklyn; several aunts and uncles; and his best friend, Nikki.
He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A celebration of Peter’s life was held Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Rev. Diane Clifford officiating.
Interment will take place in Riverview cemetery in Fort Frances at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers were Ray Ash, Dean Bruyere, Raymond Kielczewski, Brett Lessard, Sean Lessard, Steve Ballan, Kent Ballan, David Strain, David Crichton, and Shane Towner.

ELAINE ROSE JOURDAIN
Elaine Rose Jourdain, 62, of Couchiching First Nation, Ont., passed away at her residence on Monday, Nov. 26, 2007.
Elaine was born on Feb. 23, 1945 in Fort Frances, Ont. to the late Gilbert and Florence Perrault. She had worked as a nursing assistant in International Falls, Mn., as a day care teacher, and also a community health representative.
She enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards, and teaching her grandchildren to play poker. She was a very sociable person who enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with friends.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and the C.W.L.
Elaine is survived by her children, Naomi (Ed Carrigan), Leah (Norman) Lundquist, Ruth (Michael) Demuth, Denise (Stuart) Clendenning, Connie (Darren) Kress, Barb Lajoie and family, Terry Jourdain (Cindy McCormick), Laurie (Mervyn) Rose, Raylene (Rob) Hebert, Cheryl (Rocky) LaBelle, and Tony (Michelle) Marinaro.
She also is survived by her grandchildren, Devin and Chase Carrigan, Brenton and Tanner Lundquist, Allan and Mikey Demuth, Alyssa Clendenning, Alicia Kress, Sonny Lajoie, Danielle Lajoie, Jesse Jourdain, Paul Noble, Scott, Mervyn, Thomas and Tristan Rose, Bobbi-Lyn Boan, Hannah and Madeline Hebert, Terry, Doug, and Oscar LaBelle, and Frances, Michael, Tiffany, T.J., and Heidi Marinaro.
Also surviving are her siblings, Valentine (Eleanor) Perrault, Ramona (Irvin) Lewis, Gilbert (Colleen) Perrault, Barb (Dempsey) Calder, Diane Mainville, and Robert (Cathy) Perreault; very good friends, Marcy Mainville and Nick Mainville Jr.; great-niece, Callie-Jai Perrault; sister-in-law, Marilyn Perrault; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Gilbert and Florence Perrault; brother, Vernon Perrault; sister, Patsy Grover and her husband, Lyle; and sister, Victoria Perrault.
A visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 from 7-8 p.m., with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m., at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Funeral mass will be held Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Couchiching First Nation.
Msgr. George Bourguignon will officiate, with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes cemetery in Couchiching First Nation.
The pallbearers will be Gilbert Grover, Charles Perrault, Ed Natawance, Mitch Perreault, Brent Perreault, and Steven Perrault.
The honourary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Brenton and Tanner Lundquist, Allan and Mikey Demuth, and Devin and Chase Carrigan, and her two angels, Alyssa Clendenning and Alicia Kress.
COLLEEN ELIZABETH ALLAN
Peacefully, on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., Colleen Elizabeth (nee Heward) passed away at the age of 85.
Colleen was born Feb. 4, 1922 in La Vallee Township, Ont. to the late Collin and Maggie Heward. She was united in marriage to Russell Allan in Emo, Ont., and together they resided on their farm located on cemetery Road.
After Russell’s passing, Colleen moved to Fort Frances in 1978, then to Emo in 2005, where she had resided since.
She enjoyed bowling, bingo, the casino, watching baseball and hockey, crocheting, and dancing. Her family was the centre of her life.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lois (Alvin) Mann of International Falls, Mn., Gerald (Jane) Allan of Emo, Roger Allan of Devlin, Brian (Nancy) Allan of Devlin, Cheryl (Dan) Bragg of Emo, Lucille (Mel) MacDonald of Devlin, Brenda (Ralph) Boettcher of Emo, and Kay (Bill) Nickel of Fort Frances.
Sadly missed by her grandchildren, Laurie Wepruk, Glen and Dennis Gagnon, Shaun Allan, Lori Farmer, Melanie Sheppard, Paul Allan, Stacy and Travis MacIntyre, Barbara McQuaker, Tracy Grennier, Mike Webb, Lisa McPherson, Jason Webb, Russ Brodie and Neil MacDonald, Jacob and Tera Boettcher, and Bruce and Tracy MacDonald; and step-grandchildren, Jason, Sean, Chelsea and Carrie Bragg, and Troy, Lance, Scott, Rick, Debbie, and Chuck Mann.
Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Cody Farmer, Cole and Caleb Allan, Kurtis and Nickolas Wepruk, Whitney and Mathew Gagnon, Erika, Victoria and Jaycee Sheppard, Jocelyn and Janelle Allan, Bret, Reece, and Karsyn McQuaker, Kalin Grennier, Declan and Griffin Webb, Nadia, Noah, and Brody McPherson, and Nolan MacDonald, Ryne Glover, and John Glover.
She also is survived by sisters, Gwen (Glen) Westover, Mildred Allan, Edith Marsh, and Lucille Ryckman.
Colleen was predeceased by her husband, Russell; son, Alexander “Sonny” MacDonald; and sisters, Alverne Hoey and Erma Heward.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., with Rev. Eileen Bragg officiating.
Interment in Devlin cemetery in Devlin, Ont.
The pallbearers were Shaun Allan, Paul Allan, Dennis Gagnon, Travis MacIntyre, Michael Webb, Jake Boettcher, Russ MacDonald, and Barb McQuaker.
The honourary pallbearers were all of her grandchildren.

BARBARA GAIL FORBES
Peacefully, on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007 at her residence in Barwick, Ont., Barbara G. Forbes (nee Barron) passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Marjorie (nee Webb) and Harold Barron; and brother, Robert Barron.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Cory; and sons, Jim, Delbert, Bill, Ron, Sheldon, Gene, Greg, and Brad, and daughter, Anne Winters, and their spouses.
She will be greatly missed by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara also is survived by brothers, Kenneth (Lois), Bruce (Blanche), Gerald (Carolyn), Allan (Marianne), and Bill Berry (Chris); sisters, Elaine Barten and Ruth Stewart (Bob); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of Barbara’s life was held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Barwick Community Church in Barwick, with Pastor Leslie Abbott officiating.

JANELLE GAVIN
Janelle Gavin, 52, of Loves Park, Ill. and formerly of Chicago, Ill., was beamed up on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007 from her home.
She was born Feb. 10, 1955 in Chicago, the daughter of John D. and Patricia Myers Gavin.
Janelle was a graduate of Elizabeth Seton High School in South Holland. She was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Janelle was employed by UPS in Rockford as an aircraft mechanic. She alsow was a huge “Star Trek” fan.
Survivors include her mother, Patricia M. Gavin of International Falls, Mn.; and brothers and sisters, John D. Gavin of International Falls, Mn., Lynne Gavin of Fort Frances, Ont., Donna Gavin of New Glarus, Wis., Patricia (Tom) Gavin-Flanagan of Sebeka, Mn., Erin Gavin of International Falls, Mn., Tom (Anna) Gavin of Palos Park, Ill., and Tim (Michelle) Gavin of Beloit, Wis.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Brad Hayes of Emo, Ont.
She was predeceased by her father.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, Wis., with Pastor David Meding officiating.
There will be no visitation.

John Walter Law, 81, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Friends may visit Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, with prayers being held at 7:30 p.m.
MILTON HENRY LAMPI
Milton Henry Lampi, 71, passed away suddenly on Thursday, Oct. 4 , 2007 in his home on Nickleby Lake (Highway 11) near Atikokan, Ont.
Milton was born May 3, 1936 in Finland Ont., third of the five sons born to the late William and Eleanor (Bragg) Lampi. He married Patricia Hogan in Atikokan in June 20, 1955.
Milt moved, with his parents and brothers, to Atikokan in 1953 and spent the remainder of his life, except for a few periods here and there, living in the Atikokan and area.
He worked at CAC Caland, operating the tug boat and servicing the dredge. He worked at mines in Shebandowan, Flin Flon, and Besset, Man., and diamond drilling up in the Northwest Territories.
He spent many years working in the forest industry until an injury forced him out.
He was a jack-of-all-trades, but specialized in mechanics and was able to fix most anything brought to his attention. He enjoyed neighbours and friends calling on him when they needed a helping hand and would always go, with a smile and a joke, no matter what the weather or the hour of the day.
Milt seldom spent time sitting, he was always busy doing something; even when visiting, he was busy playing his accordion or guitar as entertainment for the folks in the room.
Milt was a dedicated collector of “things he might use one day.” He could, and would, enthusiastically explain the plan for, and the purpose of, anything you might question him holding onto.
Milton is survived by four children, Sandra (Tom) Morden and Christine (Wade) Modeland of Atikokan, Ont., Cecil (Karen) of N.W.T., and Kelly (Sharon) in Texas; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Richard (Jean) of Atikokan, Ont. and Fredrick of Merritt, B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Ted Robert, in 1971; his father, William, in 1972; his mother, Eleanor, in 2005; two brothers, William in 1932 and Nicholas in 1993; and a few friends he has missed dearly.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Legion Hall in Atikokan, with Rev. Gordon Waldie officiating.
Pallbearers will be Richard Bowes, Doug Sanders, Eric Rasinaho, Douglas Lampi, Fred Lampi, and Richard Lampi.
Interment will be in Finland cemetery in Finland, Ont. at a later date.
