In loving memory of Michael Dokuchie, who passed away in the early-morning hours of Monday, July 30, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 51 years.
After living ever so graciously throughout his illness, he now rests in peace.
On May 2, 1980, Michael married Deborah Richert, his soul mate. They were blessed with two sons, Joshua Michael and Matthew Jason. On April 18, 2007, Matthew and wife, Franceska, gave Michael and Debbie a precious grandson, Nickolas Michael.
Baby Nickolas brought sunshine to Michael’s final days.
DORIS LOUISE POPE
Doris L. Pope (nee Dalseg), 84, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007 at Rainycrest in Fort Frances, Ont.
Doris was born March 14, 1923 in Hibbing, Mn. to the late Maurice and Clara Dalseg. She married the late Alex Pope in 1947.
Doris was a member of the Nestor Falls United Church and played the organ for many years. She also was an active member of the United Church Women and
the Nestor Falls Curling Club.
Doris enjoyed knitting, and was well-known for her cooking in her younger years at her father’s camp (Dalseg’s Virgin Pine Camp) and in her later
years when Doris and Alex owned and operated the Cottage Café in Nestor Falls.
Doris is survived by her sons, Jack Pope and his wife, Mary, and Bill Pope and his wife, Nancy, all of Nestor Falls, Ont.; grandchildren, Shane (Gina)
Pope, Brant (Joanne) Pope, Susanne, and Shanna Pope; and two great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by her brother, Jack (Phyllis) Dalseg of Nestor Falls, Ont.; and sister-in-law, Gordie (Burdette) Redding of Port Townsend, Wash.
Also survived by her step-children, Cecile (Jim) Cole of Nestor Falls, Ont. and Ross (Sheila) Pope of Kelowna B.C.; and their children and
grandchildren.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Alex; son, Jimmy; sisters, Janet Folger and Muriel Davidson; and brother, Robert Dalseg.
A memorial service will be held Frday, Oct. 5, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Nestor Falls United Church in Nestor Falls.

HELEN DeBENEDET
Helen DeBenedet, 81, of 834 Second St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Helen was born April 13, 1926 in Fort Frances to the late Michael (Mike) and Anne Homeniuk. She attended school and lived most of her life in Fort Frances.
During World War II, she moved to Ottawa, Ont. While there, she worked in records for War Services. She later returned to Fort Frances, where she worked at Wells Hardware for a short time.
En route by train from Ottawa back to Fort Frances, she had met the love of her life, Claude DeBenedet, to whom she was united in marriage on Feb. 4, 1946.
Raising her family was the most important part of her life. Helen also loved gardening, cooking, and camping with her family. Most of all, she enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren.
Helen was a member of the Italian Ladies Benevolant Club, La Verendrye General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Church, and the C.W.L.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Helen is survived by her husband, Claude DeBenedet, of Fort Frances, Ont.; one son, Donald DeBenedet, wife, Dianne, and their daughter, Dayna; and two daughters, Janice, husband, Wayne Maxwell, and their children, Andrea and Brad and Teresa, husband, Jack McFayden, and their children, Scott and
Michelle, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; and special family member, Amy Wreggitt of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving are two sisters, Kay Tones of Sudbury, Ont. Jennie and husband, Warren Hemstad, of Bemidji, Mn.; two sisters-in-law, Rose and husband, Ken Dickson, of Dryden, Ont. and Hilda Homeniuk of Mississauga, Ont.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by one son, Claude Michael DeBenedet Jr. in 1973; one brother, John Homeniuk; and four sisters, Mary Moreau, Rose O’Leary, Sophie White, and Victoria Peters.
Cremation will take place at the Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Mn.
A memorial service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Father Francis Pudicherry officiating.
The honourary pallbearers will be Amy Wreggitt, Jane McLeod, Mavis Dick, Lil Pihulak, Pearl DeGagne, and Paulette Fafard.

AGNES MARY LOCKMAN
Agnes Mary Lockman, 93, of Emo, Ont., passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
She had worked as a cook in various bush camps, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #145 Ladies Auxiliary in Atikokan, Ont.
She also enjoyed hunting fishing and ice fishing.
Agnes was united in marriage on June 19, 1952 in Sudbury, Ont. to Kenneth Lockman, who survives. Also surviving are her two sisters, Lorraine (Gerald)
Bullied of Emo, Ont. and Rita Desgrasielliers of Atikokan, Ont.
She was predeceased by her parents, James and Adeline Brigden; three brothers, Harry, Jerry, and Garfield Brigden; and five sisters, Estelle Brigden, Alice Richard, Joyce Wilson, Dorothy Munn, and Adaline Khober.
A family graveside service was held Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at the Riverview cemetery in Fort Frances, with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.

BRUCE BIDDESON
On Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, Bruce B. Biddeson passed away peacefully at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a devoted and loving husband to Mary, as well as a Godly father, uncle, brother-in-law, and grandfather.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Mary, and their children and spouses, Beth and husband, Rod Enns, of Fort Frances, Ont., Nancy and husband, Andy Palmer, of Burlington, Ont., and Dan Biddeson of Fort Frances, Ont.; five grandchildren, Derek, Allison, and Nathan Enns, and Jacob and Sarah Palmer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Lida Biddeson; son, Joseph Alfred (1979); infant daughter, RuthAnn (1958); infant son, Thomas (1961); one brother, Everett; and two sisters, Mary Prudence Hodgkins and Beryl Mae Kesler.
Bruce was born Oct. 13, 1914 to Joseph and Lida Biddeson in the old Daniel W. Biddeson homestead, which is now known as 1021 River Rd. in Fort Frances.
Bruce attended the old McIrvine School and the Fort Frances High School.
He worked at many jobs, which included the Kenora highway in the 1930s, several garages in the area, and the 0 & M Paper Company.
Bruce joined the Canadian Navy and served three-and-a-half years from 1942-45.
He served on convoy duty in the North Atlantic, and on the “D Day” invasion of Europe, Omaha Beach U.S. Sector, sweeping for mines before the troops landed along the French Coast.
The lead ship was the Blairmore, on which he served. He was informed that 85 percent of them would die, but this did not happen.
After discharge, Bruce returned to work for the 0 & M Paper Company, where he worked at many different jobs, mainly as a very gifted tinsmith.
On July 4, 1952, Bruce married Mary E. Evans, daughter of Percy and Florence Evans at the Baptist Church on Scott Street. They settled at 1021 River Rd. W. in Fort Frances.
He was a devoted member of the local camp of the Gideons International in Canada.
Bruce also served for many years as a deacon for Bethel Baptist Church.
He was faithfully involved with Sunny Cove Baptist Camp, Northern Echo canoe trips for teens, and KBHW Christian radio.
Bruce supported many Christian mission projects, and encouraged and helped financially those attending Christian colleges and higher education.
He also was involved with the Horticultural Society, CNR Heritage Board CN Station, and a founding member of the Fort Frances Museum.
He was a very caring man who loved people and spent time in prayer for them.
He also enjoyed gardening, reading, and especially spending time with family.
His life motto was “helping others and sharing his best friend, Jesus Christ.”
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 31, 2007 from 7-8:30 p.m at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007 at l0 a.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Frances. Pastor Ken Johnson will officiate, followed interment in Riverview cemetery in Fort Frances.
