Sadie MacMillan

Sadie Lois MacMillan (nee MacKenzie) passed away on August 20, 2012 at the Glengarry Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 4, 1928 on her family farm east of Brodie with her twin sister Christena (1928-2007). Her mother (Ida MacRae) died of cancer when the girls were seven and she and Christena lived with their father Dan MacKenzie and his parents. She attended Brodie Public School and worked with her Dad on the farm until she married a neighbor, John D. MacMillan (1911-1993) in 1952. They lived a mile up the road on a small dairy farm. In 1967 she began a twenty three year career at the Glengarry Memorial Hospital. These were some of the happiest days of her life as she loved the camaraderie at the hospital. During this period, she and John D. switched from dairy to beef farming, and then took cattle on pasture, before finally retiring. They enjoyed travelling and once drove to Vancouver on one of their many trips to western Canada. As his health deteriorated, they took bus trips around Ontario and the United States. She looked after John D. in his last years as diabetes was taking its toll on him. During the past twenty years she continued her bus trips with her friend Muriel McCallum. Sadie loved having visitors come in, visiting with others, going to seniors clubs events, attending church and going to parties and events in the community. She was the best neighbor that anyone could hope for. Funeral arrangements under the care of the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 114 Main St. Alexandria (613) 525-2772. Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 10-11 am at the St. Columba Presbyterian Church, Kirk Hill. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment in the parish cemetery.
