Mathieu, Christina Isobel St. John Kevins. R.N., loving caregiver to all, left this life with great dignity on February 24, 2013. Beloved wife of the late George James Mathieu, and the late Philip Anthony Kevins, cherished Mom to Kathleen (Michael Macy), Brian (Ina Kevins), Colleen (Frank Burke), Patricia and Donna (Robert Loj); adored Grandma (Mammo) to Christina, Griffin, Cassidy, David, Jessica, Isabella and Jacob. She also leaves her loving sister, Rona Leong and her dear brother, Bernie St. John to mourn her passing. Christina was sixth in line to ten siblings, and was a much-loved aunt to over thirty nieces and nephews. Rest in peace, Mom, you have certainly earned it. Funeral to take place Saturday, March 2 at 11AM at St. Finnan's Cathedral in Alexandria, Ontario. In accordance with the wishes of the deceased there will be no visitation. Peacefully with her family by her side at the St. Joseph’s Villa, Cornwall on Wednesday, February 18, 2015; age 87 years. Beloved wife for 63 years to William (Bill) Wereley. Loving mother of Barry (Gale), Steven (Judy), Kevin (Tammy), Mark (Sue), and daughter in law Lucie Wereley. Cherished grandmother of 8 grandchildren; Christopher, Derek, Brad, Mallory, Neal, Sean, Ryan, Britney, and by 6 great-grandchildren. She is survived by one brother Carl Nugent (Edith) of Berwick, and sister in law Jean Nugent of Chesterville. Predeceased by her parents Stanley and Annis Nugent of Berwick, her brother Kenneth, and her sister Bethel. Phyllis graduated from the Cornwall General Hospital School of Nursing 1949, and after a career that spanned more than 40 years, retired from the Glengarry Memorial Hospital. She will be remembered for her quiet dignity and beautiful spirit. She will be missed. The family would like to thank the staff at the St. Joseph’s Villa for all their wonderful care of Phyllis. Leif Lundgaard
After a valiant fight Leif left us, with his beloved partner and best friend Caroline at his side. Leif was born in Vang i Heidmark, Norway to parents Olaf and Anna. With his father he served in the Hjemmefront (resistance) during the Nazi occupation of Norway and later with the Norwegian Brigade in Finmark and Germany. A champion in orienteering, ski jumping and cross country skiing, he came to Canada in 1965 to participate in Canadian ski marathons and arctic field work with the Polar Continental Shelf Project. He participated in polar research projects including North Pole 1967 and 1969, AIDJAX 1971-72 and 1975-76, LOREX 1979, CESAR 1983, Hobson’s Choice ice island (1980s) as well as research on Canadian glaciers (mass balance studies). In 1993 he traveled from Russia to the Canadian Arctic over the North Pole with a scientific research team. He retired from Arctic research in 1997 and devoted his energies to orienteering and his country property near St. Andrews West, Ontario. He is survived by his partner Caroline Philips, his brother Ola (Åse) and nieces and nephews in Norway. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Ester and brothers Odd and Karl. Thank you for the excellent care he received at Maxville Manor and the Glengarry Memorial Hospital. A gathering to remember Leif will be held at Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 6:30 pm until 9 pm. . Ha det min elskede.
