Active in Women's Institute for over 70 years she enjoyed her home, family, community and church. She was a wonderful mother, great cook, avid gardener, and loved sewing and needlework. Robert Alexander "Alex" McNaughton
November 17, 1923 – October 4, 2007
After a full and wonderful life, and a long struggle with cancer, Alex peacefully passed away in Alexandria in his 84th year. He cherished his family and will be forever missed by his beloved children Robert (Wendy) of Calgary, Brian of Bainsville, Debbie of Calgary, Geoffrey of Bainsville, Maureen (Brian) of Ottawa, grandson Ross, granddaughter Laura and wife Margaret (nee Warrington) of 53 years. He leaves behind his sisters Annabell and Elizabeth “Tibi” McRae of Lancaster and his brother-in-law Edwin Thompson of Long Sault. Predeceased by his parents Edgar and Maude McNaughton (Sangster) and sister Margaret “Peggy” Thompson. Alex is survived by many nieces and nephews. Alex graduated from Kemptville Agricultural School in 1947 and returned to share the operation of the family farm with his father. McNaughton View Farms is a century farm with a dairy operation. Over the years with many changes and expansions and with the help of his own sons and daughters all enjoyed a busy productive life. Alex was a Holstein Breeder for over 50 years and a prized plowman. He served in local government for a span of 16 years as councilor, deputy reeve, reeve and Warden of SD&G in 1970. A life member of Lancaster Masonic Lodge #207. Alex followed his father as a board member and president of the Glengarry Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Recognized for his agricultural contribution and community involvement he was inducted into the Glengarry Agricultural Wall of Fame and was a recipient of the Queens Jubilee Metal. Already missed by his faithful border collie “Sandy”. Alex’s family would like to express a great debt of thanks to the staff and volunteers of the Glengarry Memorial Hospital for the love and care they provided during his Hospital stay. Special thanks to Mrs. Ray Spooner, palliative care.
