Great-grandmother to Amanda's daughter Annabel. Sister to Marie Humphreys, Armie Rizzo and Jack Rizzo. Former mother-in-law of Anita. She will be missed beyond words. Devoted and loving husband of 56 years to Patricia (nee Fortuna), much loved dad of Debra Gonzalez (Pat) and Jim MacKenzie Jr. (Kim). Cherished grandpa of Tanya MacKenzie (Ben), Krystina MacKenzie (Graeme) and Rob Gonzalez (Stephanie). Lovingly remembered by his sister Sheila Barlow (Don). Predeceased by his parents Tom and Ann MacKenzie, and also by brothers and sisters, Bill MacKenzie (Gertrude), Marge Stribbell (Sparkie), Alice Bowland (Jack) and Tom MacKenzie (Edith). Deeply loved father to Rose and Mark Pye, Giselle and Leo Paone, Mike and Laura Lico, and Paul and Marcella Lico. Adored and precious nonno to Thomas, Alexandra, Christopher, David, Talia, Anita, Emma and Veronica. Predeceased by his parents Palmo and Rosina Lico and siblings Giovanni and Teresa Lico, all of Donnici, Italy; father-in-law and mother-in-law Sante and Angela Muraca; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Eugenio and Rosina Beltrano. Mohammed "Mike" Bashir Mirza
March 15, 1927 - June 23, 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving father, husband and comrade, on June 23, 2009, at the age of 82. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 45 years, Lorna Christine (nee Lane) Mirza. Dear father of Julian (Alicia), Davis (Rhonda), Morris (Gina), Lori (Jason), Paul (Carolyn), Tim (Lisa). Survived by sister Dr. Saira Mirza. Proud grandfather of Ashley, Colleen, Hayden, Tabitha, Nickolas, Zachary, Amelia, Nathan and Lilliana. Dear brother of the late Abdul Whaid Mirza, the late Fatima Mirza (Abdul Ghani), the late Munir Mirza (Joyce). Also survived by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Pakistan. Mike was born on March 15, 1927 in Jehlum, India. During WWII, he served with the British Army stationed in India and the Middle East. After the war, Mike relocated to England where he met his future wife, Lorna, and was active in organized labour while working for the British automotive and aviation industries. After immigrating to Canada in 1960, Mike was involved in many politically progressive causes and was active in the peace and labour movements including the Communist Party of Canada, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Ontario Senior Citizens Action Coalition, and the Ontario Health Coalition. Mike was retired from CN Route Canada where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. In his later years, Mike devoted his energy to improving the rights of seniors and access to universal health care. The family would like to thank the staff of the Hamilton General Hospital ER for their excellent care and Dr. Gregory Curnew of the HGH Outpatient Clinic. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 between 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Friscolanti Funeral Chapel, 43 Barton St. E. to be followed by a memorial service on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow.
