Dorothy Whalen passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 18, 2003 at the age of 81. Beloved wife of Grenville Whalen and the late Joseph Harold Vaillancourt. Dear mother of Charles Vaillancourt (Carol) and Caroldene "Dene" Clarke. Dorothy will be sadly missed by Milan Whalen (John). Proud grandma of David and Steven Vaillancourt. Dorothy is predeceased by her parents and by her brother and sisters. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dorothy will be held at St. Luke's Cathedral on Wednesday, January 23 at 2:00 p.m. with the Very Rev. Garry Dobinson officiating. Marie Antoinette Blatter passed away at the Sault Area Hospital Nursing Home on Friday, January 17, 2003 at the age of 96 years. Beloved wife of the late Paul Louis Blatter. Dear mother of Paul, Robert, Suzanne, Pete (Carrie), Raymond (Nancy), Carmen (Linda) and the late Emmanuel. Grandmother of Raymond, Elizabeth and Andre Taavel (Kellee), Michelle Allaire (Nicolas), Renee, Denis, Monique, Curtis, Serge, Chantal, Christophe and Gabriel Blatter. Great grandmother of Julia, Emily and Jacob. She was predeceased by many brothers and sisters. A private family funeral service will be held at the Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road, 945-7758) on Monday, January 20, with Rev. Bernard Burns officiating. Mrs. Blatter will be buried beside her late husband in Laverlochere, Quebec in the spring. Memorial donations made to the Sault Area Hospital Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family. Adelina Iacoe passed away peacefully at the General Hospital with her family by her side on Saturday, January 18, 2003 in her 81st year. Cherished wife for over 60 years to Pasquale. Loving mother of Richard (Paulette), Ada Ristimaki (Charles) and Linda Powell-Grenier (Gregory). Very proud nana of James Powell (Gabrielle Brown), Charlie Ristimaki, Sarah Iacoe, Christine Powell, Natalie Ristimaki and Christiaan Iacoe. Great nana to Cristian Bronzino. Loving wife of 34 years to Bob and mother and best friend of Sarah and Dan. Predeceased by her parents, Dino and Irene Dini and her special auntie and uncle, Inez and Joseph Euale. Sister of the late Ron Dini (Merle), the late Lawrence Dini (late Sandra), Lorraine Seccareccia (Mario) and Henry Dini. Special cousin of Jim Euale (Linda), David Euale (Marjorie) and Virginia Euale. Pat will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Pat cherished each of her many wonderful friends and neighbours who made her journey through her illness so joyful. Thomas B. Gillespie (October 24, 1917 ? January 16, 2003) passed away peacefully. "Boy Explorer" Beloved husband of Barbara Lamb and the late Bettina. Loved father of David and Monica Gillespie, Chris and Alida Gillespie, Ruth Anne and Jamie Rudack, Helen Gillespie & Wayne Gartshore, Janice Gillespie and Mary Lou and Robert Morgan. Dearly loved Grandad to Brock, Rhaelyn, Hollis (Mark), Jeremy, Kelly Jason, Trace, Nick (Angie) and Thel (Derek). Cherished Great Grandad of Abigail, Kendra and Isabelle. Brother-in-law of Elizabeth Allcock, Bertha Gillespie, Shirley Angood, Wilma & Doug Lawson. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Son of the late Sarah and Edward. He was predeceased by his brothers John and Edward. With 85 years of joyful living and endless curiosity, Tom felt so fortunate to have found a home in the Soo, sharing his passions with a community of friends, raising his family and working at Algoma Central Railway. Tom was honoured with the Sault Ste. Marie Medal of Merit in 1996 for his work and enthusiasm with numerous community projects and groups, values that this family and friends share.
