At the Thessalon Hospital on Monday, April 12, 2004. Bev White of Bruce Mines in her 71st year, life partner of Ray Broeska. Loving mother of Laurie Ferguson of Cambridge and Candi MacDonald of Okotoks, Alberta. Special grandmother of nine grandchildren and special friend of Val Fadden, Sheila Smith and Maggie Willis. Bev was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 211, Bruce Mines where she served as public relations officer, secretary, zone officer and youth education officer. She also served as a local reporter for The Sault Star and was an active participant in the Journey of Love. Bev is loved and will be missed by many family and friends in Calgary, Whitehorse, and Bruce Mines. Cremation has taken place. A Legion Memorial Service will be held at Bruce Mines United Church on Thursday, April 15, 2004 at 2:00 o’clock. Donations to the ALS Society or the Youth Education Fund Branch 211 of the Royal Canadian Legion gratefully accepted.

Catharine (Kay) Humby, a life-long resident of Thunder Bay, died in Pioneer Ridge, Saturday, April 10, 2004, 38 days before her 102nd birthday. Daughter of David and Rose Bour, Catharine was born on the family farm in the Oliver Township May 19, 1902; one year after her parents settled on what is now Maki Road. As a young girl, she attended SS#2A Oliver School on Oliver Road and the United Church in Murillo. After marrying David Humby in April 1921, she moved to Fort William where the couple had four children. Catharine was a long-time member of the United Church of Canada, regularly attending Wesley United Church, Brodie Street. She was extremely proud of her family and the latest family photos were always shared with visitors, often accompanied with the latest achievements of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Catharine was an accomplished self-taught musician who enjoyed playing the piano right until her passing. At last year’s Canada Day celebration at Pioneer Ridge, Catharine was introduced as “the 101 year old piano player” and played O Canada and the Maple Leaf Forever. Her love of music and musical talent was passed to succeeding generations of her family as a living legacy. Catharine is survived by daughters Shirley Jobb and Patricia (Sven) Carlson, of San Diego; grandchildren Jeannette (Don) Patola and Susan (Alfie) Childs, of Thunder Bay, Bill Humby (Christiane Larouche) of Calgary, Sharon (Tom) Reynolds. Maureen Jobb and Rick (Paula) Carlson of San Diego, Jennifer (Don) Martone of Sault Ste Marie and Gerald (Brenda) Humby of Dartmouth; daughter-in-law Connie Humby; seventeen great grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Alice Bour and Ada Askin, brothers William and Albert Bour, two sons Gerald (Jessie) and Howard, and son-in-law Bob Jobb. A special thanks to the staff at Pioneer Ridge for all their consideration during Catharine’s time there. And thanks to the two extra special angels who were on shift on the last evening of her journey. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 W. Gore Street at James with Rev. David Sparks officiating. A private family graveside service will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

He will be missed by brother-in-law Raymond Askin (late Norma), Yvonne Askin (late Harold) and their families, as well as Carole and many friends.
