~January 17, 1912 - January 15, 2007~ In Mae's words, 'I've had a good life.'
Cherished wife of the late Vernon George. Loving mother of Cheryl Gougeon (Paul). Daughter of the late Mary and John Kirk, sister of the late Raymond (Enid), Charles (Pearl) and Lloyd (Jean). Treasured 'Auntie Mae' to Delorys Bower (Stephen). Very special aunt and great aunt fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. In true 'Mae style', she borrowed 'grandchildren' and 'great grandchildren' from others who shared. She loved them as her own. Eight years ago, Mae courageously left many good friends in Kitchener and moved to Pathways Retirement Home in Sault Ste. Marie. She had five wonderful active years at Pathways, followed by three very challenging years where she truly revealed the extent of her courage and determination. Our deepest thanks to all friends, family, health care professionals and Pathways staff members who helped and really cared. A special thanks to the many friends and family members not living in Sault Ste. Marie who kept in touch, greatly enriching Mae's life. A Memorial Celebration of Mae's life and legacy will be held at the Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Saturday, January 20th, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. followed by food and fellowship. In keeping with Mae's love of 'the dear children', all ages will be welcome to attend this Celebration. Interment will take place in the spring at Markdale Cemetery (Markdale, Ontario). Memorial donations made to the Sault Ste. Marie Central United Church Music Ministry, Sleeping Children Around The World or Algoma Residential Community Hospice (A.R.C.H.) would be appreciated by the family.
They dance best who dance with desire
Who lifting feet of fire from fire
Weave before they lie down
A red carpet for the sun.
