passed away peacefully at home with family by his side August 19, 2007. Beloved husband of Mary. Dear father of Marylou Misener, Amherstburg, Alex (Thu) Augustyniak, Port Moody, B.C. Grandfather of Alex and Austin Misener, Amherstburg, and Hudson and Dawson Augustyniak, Port Moody, B.C. Predeceased by his parents Walter and Frances. Brother of Henrietta (Roy) Flanz, Dearborn, MI and John (Sophie, 2001) Augustyniak, Sterling Heights, MI. Son-in-law of Mary Gajewski, Amherstburg. Also survived by many nieces and nephews in Michigan. Alex was employed by the Tool & Die Industry, spent his retirement at his second home on Manitoulin Island. He will be greatly missed by his fishing partners and his friends and neighbours on the Island. A special thank you to Dr. C. Beal, Don & Sue Lamontagne, Steve & Sue Santerre, Brian & Judy Hood, all of Manitoulin Island, and also to Robin Wright-Walker, R.N., Amherstburg.
At Alex’s request, cremation and private family services have taken place. He is survived by his wife Mary, his children Noel (Johanne), Sandra, Peter, Ann and Terry (Dave), 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. The Family wishes to thank the nurses both at Sunnybrook and North York General Hospitals for the loving care and compassion shown to our father. Gartshore, Penny - passed away peacefully at McMaster Medical Centre on August 17th, 2007 at the age of 84. She is predeceased by loving husbands, Reg Castle and Jack Gartshore. She will be greatly missed by her children Anne, Jane and John Castle. She was also loved and respected by Pat and Mick Margetts, John Watrous and her family in England. Her optimism, dignity and strength will be missed by all who encountered her, including the staff and residents of Carrington Place Retirement Residence in Ancaster, Ontario. During World War ll, Penny was a member of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry and rose to become an Acting Captain in the British Women's Army Corps. Before immigrating to Canada, she lived in Brazil and Scotland. She was an active volunteer in the Girl Guide Movement and the Red Cross while she lived in Oakville. She became the first female Social Worker employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs in Hamilton-Niagara. Following Reg Castle's death she married Jack Gartshore and lived with him at Auchinburn Farm in Ancaster. Her resiliency, zest for life, sense of humour and sound judgement will be sorely missed by her many friends. A Memorial Service will be held for Penny at St. john's Anglican Church 272 Wilson Street East ( corner of Wilson and Halsen) in Ancaster, on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John's Anglican Church, would be appreciated by the family. Mary Hooper, 94 years, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on August 19, 2007. Beloved wife of the late Carl Hooper (1973). Loving mother of Edward and wife Barbara, Gary, and Carol. Dear Gram of 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Mary will be fondly remembered by sister-in-law Ruth Hooper, brother-in-law Jim Hooper, nieces, nephews and her special companions Cuddles and Peanut. Mary enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the Casino, 10 Pin Bowling which she played up to the age of 90 years and was also an avid Toronto Blue Jay Fan. The family would like to express a special thanks to CCAC, Com Care, Dr. Julie Bilibajkich and Emma Cookson. Visitation will be held at Marcotte Funeral Home & Chapel 12105 Tecumseh Road, Tecumseh on Tuesday from 2-5 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Parish prayers will be held at 7:15 p.m. Visitation will continue at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church 834 Raymo Road, Windsor on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Yvonne was a retired school bus driver, having worked for Towle Buslines for 25 years, and a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Amherstburg.
