Julienne Hubert

PRESCOTT -- Julienne Hubert, 72, formerly of Prescott and a resident of Bridlewood Manor, Brockville, since October 2002, died February 10, 2003 at Brockville General Hospital.

She was born February 26, 1930 at Ste. Marthe, Que., the daughter of Ovilda Seguin and the former Josephine Masse. She married Pierre Hubert on May 14, 1955 in St. Mark's Catholic Church, Prescott.

She was a member of the Catholic Women's League at her church, enjoyed playing euchre and bingo, liked sewing and loved being with her family and many friends.

Mrs. Hubert is survived by her husband Pierre, daughter Monique Brunet and husband Ron of North Augusta, son Don Hubert and wife Judy of Almonte and grandchildren Ted, Marc, Daniel and Michael.

Also surviving are three sisters, Marguerite Bissonnette and husband Roland of Hamilton, Germaine Trudeau and husband Gilles of Prescott, and Marie Boileau and husband Tony of Prescott, and one brother, Simon Seguin and wife Darlene of Cornwall, as well as sisters-in-law Madeline Seguin of Prescott and Aurore Seguin of Hamilton and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, daughter Lise, brothers Oscar, Ovila, Rene, Rosaire and Maurice Seguin, sister Rita Ross and son-in-law Dwayne.

Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, on February 11. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Mark's Catholic Church on February 12, with Father John Appelman and Father Rob Arsenault officiating. Cremation was arranged and a committal service will be held in the spring at St. Mark's Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Ted Livingston, Daniel Hubert, David Seguin, Rick Seguin, Michael Seguin and George Ross.

Memorial donations were directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society.

Kay Kingston, 81

SPENCERVILLE -- Kathryn "Kay" Marie Kingston, 81, died February 19, 2003 at her home in Spencerville.

She was born November 17, 1921 in Roebuck where she was raised by her parents, Charlie Whitley and the former Hazel Baker. She married Art Kingston in October 1940 and together they farmed in Roebuck until 1978. After her husband's death in 1989, she moved to The Maples in Spencerville.

She was a lifetime member of Roebuck United Church, Roebuck Women's Institute and Roebuck United Church Women. She was also an active member of the Roebuck Seniors Club and continued to be an avid sports fan, often attending games near and far. She could often be found playing cards with her friends at The Maples or the Legion.

She is survived by her four children, Shirley Frank of Spencerville, Dale and wife Janice of Roebuck, Beverly Ferguson and husband Hubert of Mallorytown and Lynn Hutton and husband Peter of Spencerville, as well as grandchildren Brenda, Donna, Darryl, Dustin, Michael, Kathy, Jason and Tarah, and great-grandchildren Jesse, Nicholas, Cooper and Bryce.

Also surviving are her sisters Ruth Leeder of Brockville and Anne Moore and husband Earl of Johnstown, brother James Whitley and wife Greta of Roebuck, cousin Joyce Froom and husband Walter of Prescott, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Art, daughter Audrey, son Billy, sister-in-law Edith Hall and brothers-in-law Percy Hall and Al Leeder.

Friends called at the Grant Brown Funeral Home, Purcell Chapel, in Spencerville on February 22. Her funeral was held February 23 at Roebuck United Church, with Rev. Donald Wachenschwanz and Cathie Kelso officiating. Recollections of her life were given by 11 family members and friends and special music was sung by Janice Kingston and Hubert Ferguson.

Burial will be at Spencerville Union Cemetery in the spring. The pallbearers were grandchildren Donna Frank, Michael Ferguson, Darryl Kingston, Jason Hutton, Dustin Kingston and Ed Palmer.

Memorial donations were directed to Roebuck United Church.

Glenna Wright, 86

SMITHS FALLS -- Glenna Maude Wright, 86, died February 8, 2003 at Broadview Nursing Home, Smiths Falls, with her family by her side.

She was born May 4, 1916, in Kitley Township to Frederick Hewitt and the former Charlotte Maude Yates. She attended Shanes Public School and Smiths Falls High School.

On September 18, 1935, she married W.J. Wright. They worked together on their farm and raised two children. She worked as a registered nursing assistant in Smiths Falls. Later in life, she and her husband were the local mail carriers for several years.

A caring person, she loved all her family. She loved to bake, and entertained many friends and family at her home. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and crocheted several afghans for her children, grandchildren, other family and friends. She was an active member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Newbliss, for many years.

Mrs. Wright is survived by her son Donald and wife Donna, daughter Doris Johnston and husband Garnet, all of Jasper, and eight grandchildren, Randy Wright, Vickie Downey, Shelly Bennett, Penny Northey, Cindy Johnston-Myers, Deborah Johnston, Rick Johnston and Sherri Johnston-Moran, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are her brothers Joseph Hewitt and Elton Hewitt, sisters Minnie Davis and Vivian Street, and many nieces and nephews, as well as sisters-in-law Edna Curtis of Toronto and Della Phillips of Brockville.

She was predeceased by her husband W.J. Wright on January 21, 1993, brothers Ivan, Danny, Alvin and Orval Hewitt and sisters Doris Hewitt, Theresa Simpson, Viola Donaldson, Anna May Kinch and Verda Abear.

Friends called at the Lannin Funeral Home, Smiths Falls, where on February 11 the funeral was held, with Rev. Albert Hoppins officiating. Burial followed at Maple Vale Cemetery, Smiths Falls.

The pallbearers were Luke Myers, Andrew Wright, Ryan and Adam Bennett, Scott Northey and Kalan Downey, all great-grandsons. The honorary pallbearers were Shannon Myers, Karina, Rikki and Joel Johnston, Sharlee and Danni-Ann Moran, Kristy Wright, Leanne Downey, Carley Northey and Brandon Bennett, also great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations were directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and St. Paul's Anglican Church, Newbliss.

Helen Hoy, 80

Helen Marie Hoy, 80, died of cancer February 12, 2003 at Brockville General Hospital after an eight-year illness.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on July 21, 1922 to James McCardle and the former Helen O'Riley, and came to Canada as a small child.

Her family settled in Toledo, where she lived until she was 12. That year her parents both died and she and her sister went to live with an aunt and uncle in Gouverneur, N.Y., where she completed her education.

She came back to Brockville in 1943 and worked at Phillips Cables, transferring later to Automatic Electric when it began operation.

On February 4, 1946, she married James Hoy in St. Francis Xavier Church, Brockville.

The couple moved to Ottawa that year and lived there until 1954, when they moved back to Brockville.

In addition to being a housewife and mother, she worked in the canteen at Thousand Islands Secondary School for a few years. She retired 25 years ago.

Mrs. Hoy identified with St. Francis Xavier Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 96, Brockville.

She loved reading, singing, dancing and traveling, and had spent several winters in Florida. She also enjoyed sports and was a faithful fan of her children's sport activities, especially baseball. During the war she had played softball in the Ladies Softball League in Brockville.

She is survived by her husband James Hoy, sons Robert and wife Terry-Jane and Alan and wife Kathleen, all of Brockville, and daughter Patricia Hoy and friend Michael Berrea of North Augusta, as well as three grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Patricia McCardle.

Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, and the Legion Ladies Auxiliary held a memorial service.

Her funeral was held February 15 in the Barclay Chapel, with Father Charles Gazely of Kingston officiating.

Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in the spring.

The pallbearers were James Fry and Matthew and Daniel Hoy.
