Doreen Mary Kinghorn, whose life centred around kin, community and church, died December 29, 2002 at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, aged 69.
She was born December 10, 1933, at Windsor to John Watson and Maude Culver.
She married Art Kinghorn February 7, 1953, at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Garretton.
Mrs. Kinghorn, a homemaker, enjoyed her community and church, sewing, crafts and her family.
She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Mildred Kelso.
She is survived by her husband, Art, sons Steve (Gail), Greg (Susie), Les (Cindy), Brent (Cynthia) and Paul (Lisa) and daughter Elly (Wayne Jordan), grandchildren Kris (Amy), Sean, Marissa, Matthew, Alison, Chelsea, Skye, Alexis and Daryl and great-grandchild Mason.
Also surviving are a sister, Jackie (Clarence Barkley), brother-in-law Allan Kelso and cousins Bob and Mary Culver.
Pallbearers were Bernard Boesveld, Ken Barkely, Carl Covill, Tim Peters, Bill Reid and Garfield Forsyth.
Memorial donations were directed to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Andrew's Anglican Church, and Hospice of Providence Palliative Care.
Bessie Nolan, 87
PRESCOTT -- Bessie Nolan, 87, who owned Nolan's Gas Bar and Restaurant, died on New Year's Day, 2003 at Sherwood Park Manor. The former Johnstown resident had lived at the manor the past few years.
She was born at Vankleek Hill on February 4, 1915, to William R. Waite and the former Mary Jane F. Younge. She married Donald Nolan on February 5, 1937, in Massena, N.Y.
She and her husband owned and operated Nolan's Gas Bar and Restaurant, on County Road 2, east of Johnstown, retiring 20 or more years ago. They continued living in their home after retirement.
She was involved in her church, Johnstown United, and its activities for many years. She also enjoyed doing embroidery, cooking and attending family gatherings.
Mrs. Nolan was predeceased by her husband, parents and all her sisters and brothers.
She is survived by her daughter Sherrill Johnston and husband Bill; her son Aurey Nolan and wife Sharon; four grandchildren, Kelly Vincent and husband Michael, Gordon Johnston and wife Linda, Sandy Johnston and wife Erin and Scott Johnston; and eight great-grandchildren, Colin and Ryan Vincent, and Shaelyn, Courtney, Taylor, Kiley, Lindsay and Julia Johnston, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, just before the funeral held in the Slater chapel at noon. Rev. Arlyce Schiebout, of Johnstown United Church, officiated. Cremation was arranged and burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Memorial donations were directed to Johnstown United Church and Sherwood Park Manor.
Beulah Hutt, 80
Beulah Ilean Hutt, 80, retired Automatic Electric employee, died January 3, 2003 at Brockville General Hospital.
She was born February 26, 1922, in Brockville to Frederick William Fulford and the former Katherine Louise Gillard.
She grew up in Brockville, attending public school and Brockville Collegiate Institute.
She married Simie "Sam" Edward Hutt on June 24, 1939, in Brockville and worked first at Phillips Cables. After raising her family, she went to work as an inspector at Automatic Electric, on Strowger Boulevard, from 1956 to 1984. She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Mrs. Hutt loved knitting and swimming. She belonged to First Presbyterian Church and sang in its choir and as a soloist for 60 years.
She is survived by her five sons, Ernest of Prescott, Jim and wife Wanda of RR 3, Mallorytown, and Ronald and wife Wendy, Gerry and wife Claudette and Eric and wife Helen, all of Brockville, as well as 11 grandchildren, including Deborah Caldwell, Karen Tremblay and husband John of Stittsville and David McCrae and wife Eileen of Brockville, and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Sam, her daughter Helen McCrae and great-granddaughter Jennifer Caldwell.
Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, where on January 8 the funeral was held, with Rev. David Jones, of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. During the service her grandson David McCrae spoke. Burial followed at Oakland Cemetery. The pallbearers were Michael, Jeff, Jason and Eric James Hutt.
Memorial donations were directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and First Presbyterian Church.
Betty Lee, 76
Betty Louise Lee, 76, died March 13, 2003 at Sherwood Park Manor.
She was born October 8, 1926 in the Township of Elizabethtown, the daughter of Walter Darling and the former Winnifred Plunkett. She grew up in Brockville.
She worked at the Automatic Electric and Black and Decker plants in Brockville and loved the outdoors, animals, dancing, listening to music and doing search word puzzles.
She had lived for the past three years at Sherwood Park Manor, where she was the resident comedian and made everyone a part of her extended family.
Mrs. Lee is survived by her son Chris Lee and wife Loue of Langdon, Alta., and daughter Judy Dove and husband Joe of Brockville, grandchildren Craig and Angela Dove, sister Helen McCaw of Brockville and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Lyle Darling.
Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, where on March 16 the funeral was held, with Rev. Dr. Helen Wilson officiating. Cremation followed and burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery at a later date.
The pallbearers were Judy, Joe, Angela and Craig Dove, Chris Lee and Helen McCaw. The honorary pallbearer was Gord Curtis.
Memorial donations were directed to the Alzheimer Society and Sherwood Park Manor.
Doris Restall, 73
Doris Elizabeth Restall, 73, of RR 2, Mallorytown, died December 30, 2002 at Hospice of Providence-St. Vincent de Paul Site. She had been ill with gall bladder cancer for five months.
Born in Seaforth, Ont., on August 22, 1929, she was the daughter of James Hulley and the former Lena Pollard. She was raised and educated in Seaforth, and was married to Albert Victor Restall.
She lived in the Ottawa/Kemptville area before moving to her home on the Escott-Rockport Road in 1968. She attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Lansdowne.
Mrs. Restall enjoyed watching and feeding birds, even including chickens.
She liked to drive around and spend time with her friends at the Kingdom Hall. She liked to crochet and quilt and made "the best home-made doughnuts, " according to her daughter Sharon.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Smith and husband Sonny of Brockville, Nancy Dillabough and husband Rick of Kingston, and Donna Restall and spouse Brian Hutchinson of Kingston, as well as two grandchildren.
Also surviving are her sisters, Bernice Hulley of Seaforth and Ruth Fletcher and husband Tom of Clinton, Ont., as well as five nephews and one niece.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband.
The funeral was held January 3 at the Lansdowne Kingdom Hall, with Richard Lappan officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery on January 4.
Memorial donations were directed to the Canadian Cancer Society and Hospice of Providence Palliative Care.
