Unice Lilian Jenkinson, 80, died October 8, 2003 at Brockville General Hospital following a heart attack.
She was born December 28, 1922, in North Gower to Thomas Richard Duncan and the former Anna Mary Anderson. She attended public school in New Dublin, in Elizabethtown township.
On July 11, 1952 she married Kenneth Ivan Jenkinson in First Presbyterian Church. She lived on Wall Street, moved to Brock Street in 1954 and lived on Sevenoaks Avenue after 1988.
She was a housewife and was family oriented. She identified with St. Peter's Anglican Church.
Mrs. Jenkinson is survived by her husband Ivan, sons Richard and Gary, and one brother, John Duncan, all of Brockville.
She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Edward and Bryson.
Friends called at the Irvine Funeral Home, Brockville, where on October 10 the funeral was held, with Canon Michael Read, of St. Peter's Anglican Church, officiating. Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland.
The pallbearers were John, Bill and Rob Jenkinson and Reg Davis.
Memorial donations were directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Palliative Care and the Blue Church Cemetery.
Cecil Healey, 76
ATHENS -- Cecil Anthony Healey, 76, well-known Toledo area dairy farmer, died January 1, 2004 at the Smiths Falls site of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital. He had been a patient for the previous two weeks.
He was born on the family homestead at RR 1, Toledo, on August 31, 1927, the son of John Healey and the former Mary Yates. He was raised on the farm and educated in that area.
On September 25, 1952, he married Audrey Sands and they farmed on the family homestead.
Mr. Healey enjoyed sports, especially baseball. He played for the Frankville Red Birds and followed the local Toledo ball team when his sons and nephew played. He watched his grandsons play hockey with the Smiths Falls Midget Bears, particularly during the 1990 European tour. He was a die-hard Montreal Canadiens fan.
His main interests were his home and family.
He is survived by his wife Audrey Healey, of RR 1, Toledo, and five children: Debbie Banks and husband Reg and Tony Healey and wife Donna, all of RR 1, Frankville; Janet Shaver and husband Steve of RR 4, Athens; Tim Healey and wife Laurie of RR 1, Frankville; and Tammy Healey and friend Mark of Brockville.
Also surviving are grandchildren Robert Giff and wife Kelly, Michael Giff and wife Joanne, Kevin and Angie Lee, Keri and Jackie Healey, Katie, Dylan and Cody Shaver, Emma Healey and Taylor Kearney, as well as great-grandchildren Kendall, David, Bailey, Camryn and Megan.
Also surviving are his sisters Rose Boyd of Aliquippa, Penn., and Catherine White of RR 1, Portland, brother Ray Healey and wife Marge of Smith's Falls, and brother Philip Healey and wife Dorothy of Toledo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law, Helena Healey and of Toledo and Gloria Healy of Timmins. Sister-in-law Eliza Healey, of Toledo, died January 11.
He was predeceased by six brothers, William, Bernard, Phillip, Neil, Yates and Blaise Healey, and three sisters, Doris Healey, Elaine Mott and Madeline Burns, and a son-in-law, David Giff in 1977.
Friends were received at the Judson Funeral Home, Athens, on January 3 and 4. The funeral mass was celebrated January 5 in St. Philip Neri Church, Toledo, with Father Robert Chisholm officiating. Burial followed at St. Philip Neri Cemetery, Toledo.
The pallbearers were three grandsons, Robert and Michael Giff and Kevin Lee, son Tony Healey and nephews Don Boyd and Peter Healey. Honorary pallbearers were Gerard Cauley, Gerald Sands, Wilfred Leeder, Vernie Edwards, Jack Wilkinson and Mark Healey.
Memorial donations were directed to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Lung Association.
Raymond Langstaff, 75
PRESCOTT -- Raymond Langstaff, 75, of RR 4, Prescott, died December 22, 2003 at his home.
He was born April 11, 1928, at Garretton to Herbert Langstaff and the former Mary Etta Loucks.
On November 6, 1948, he married Hilda Gilmer at the Gilmer farm, near VanAllen's Corners.
He worked as a millwright and pipefitter at the DuPont Canada Inc.-Maitland Site until his retirement in July 1985.
His main interests were his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed helping others, hunting, gardening and spending time with his friends, often over a cup of coffee.
Mr. Langstaff is survived by his wife Hilda, sons Rodney and wife Susan of North Augusta and Rickey and wife Starr of Domville, daughter Deborah Langstaff of Domville and grandchildren Rebecca-Mae, Benjamin, Michael, Nicole, Shanley and Joshua.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Lois Dulmage, niece Doreen Cook and nephew Robert McClintock.
Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, where on December 24 the funeral was held, with Father Claude DeLorme officiating. His grandson Benjamin Brunette read a eulogy on behalf of the grandchildren; Pastor David Bowbeer, a nephew, also spoke.
Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland. The pallbearers were Robert S. Bell, Benjamin Brunette, Michael Brunette, Ralph Dukelow, Charlie Kerr and Robin Fowler.
Memorial donations were directed to the Heart and Stroke Fouindation, Canadian Cancer Society and Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).
Trevor McCann, 86
Trevor McCann, 86, a retired dairy farmer, died December 26, 2003 at Brockville General Hospital.
He was born John Trevor McCann on August 26, 1917 in Crosby to Charles McCann and the former Maude Cheetham. He grew up in Crosby and Glen Elbe, and went to Bible school in Ottawa for a year. He helped on the family farm at McCann's Corners, near Athens, and later farmed in Mountain for John Loughlin.
He married Marjorie Grace Berry on January 1, 1944 in a ceremony performed by Rev. Caswelll in Sweet's Corners.
In the early 1960s, he moved to Athens, and in 1967, to Phillipsville. He retired from dairy farming and moved in 1983 to Brockville. When his health began to fail, he moved in April 1998 to St. Lawrence Lodge.
Mr. McCann identified with the Wesleyan Methodist church. His main interests were his home, family and church. He enjoyed reading and followed the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey games and the Toronto Blue Jays baseball games.
He is survived by his wife and eight children: four sons, Charlie McCann of Brockville, Cecil McCann and wife Cindy of RR 1, Lyn, Clinton McCann and wife Barbara of Brockville and Trevor Leslie McCann and wife Margaret of Lyn; and four daughters, Jane Uens and Shirley Harris and husband Richard, all of Brockville, Patricia Flake and husband Cliff of RR 4, Brockville, and Elsie Day and husband David of RR 1, Balderson.
Also surviving are his brother Allan McCann and wife Ruby of Athens and four sisters, Muriel Patterson, his twin, of Belleville, Vera Dixon of Kingston, Erma Marshall of Brockville and Phyllis Lickers and husband Keith of Osweken.
He leaves 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Lawrence, Stuart and Gerald McCann, and a granddaughter, Lisa Harris.
The funeral was held December 29 at the Barclay Funeral Home chapel, with Rev. Stuart Marples and Rev. Vernon Marples, of the Brockville Wesleyan Church, officiating. Remembrances were given by his daughter Shirley Harris and Scripture readings were done by son Trevor and daughter Pat Flake.
Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland. The pallbearers were Charlie, Cecil, Clinton, Trevor and Kevin McCann and Chris Flake.
Memorial donations were directed to the Mary Jane Hawkins Foundation at St. Lawrence Lodge and Brockville Wesleyan Church.
Ray McLaren, 77
Ray McLaren, 77, retired Bank of Canada employee, died December 28, 2003 at Providence Continuing Care Centre-St. Vincent de Paul Site.
He was born John Raymond McLaren on August 29, 1926, in Heckston, to Alexandria Uriah McLaren and the former Lillis May Chambers. He was raised and educated in Williamsburg and helped on the family homestead. He also worked at various jobs in Iroquois and the Morrisburg area.
He lived in Ottawa from 1951 and married Beryl Watson on June 27, 1953, in Parkdale United Church, Ottawa.
For 32 years, from 1955 to 1986, he worked for the Bank of Canada, on Wellington Street, Ottawa. At various times, he drove an armoured truck, worked in security in the bank building and was the chauffeur for the Governor of the Bank of Canada.
He returned to Brockville to live in September 1986. He was a member of Wall Street United Church. He enjoyed traveling and visited England, Scotland, the west and east coasts, Mexico, Florida, Myrtle Beach, and Branson, Missouri (casino and country music centre).
He enjoyed people and loved to visit. He also loved old cars, curling, bowling and gardening.
Mr. McLaren is survived by his wife Beryl McLaren of Brockville; brother Earl McLaren and wife Janice of Brockville; several great nieces/nephews; godchildren Jim Willis and wife Mary-Lynn of Stittsville, Gregory Whitteker and wife Angie of Morrisburg, and Nancy Green of Hamilton; two brothers-in-law, Rex Whitteker of Morrisburg and Stanley Jones of Almonte, as well as his pet dog, Ginger.
He was predeceased by a sister, Dorene Whitteker of Morrisburg.
The funeral was held December 31 at Wall Street United Church, with Rev. Dr. Alan Bennett officiating. A eulogy written by Harvey Monahan was delivered by his wife, Lou Monahan. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery in the spring.
The pallbearers were Jim Willis, Dennis, Trent and Troy Gleason, Joe Mason and Theo Jonker.
Memorial donations were directed to the Hospice of Providence Palliative Care, Canadian Cancer Society and Wall Street United Church.
