Lillian Moulton, 89

PRESCOTT -- Lillian Mary Moulton, 89, retired registered nurse, died November 22, 2003 at Brockville General Hospital.

She was born March 13, 1914, at Eganville, Ont., the daughter of Arthur Perry and the former Theresa Florence Richards. She married Leslie Grant Moulton on September 27, 1937, at Roebuck.

Mrs. Moulton studied nursing at Brockville Psychiatric Hospital (BPH) and graduated as a registered nurse in 1936. She worked at both BPH and Brockville General Hospital over the years. She also did private duty nursing when her children were growing up, and she was the community nurse for her neighbourhood.

Her interests included the Grenville County Historical Society, doing needlpoint and caring for others.

She is survived by her daughters Rae Morris and Bill of Prescott, Eloise Moulton of Belleville and Carol Alkerton and husband George of RR 2, Spencerville, and her son Russell Moulton and Kathy of RR 2, Spencerville. Also surviving are grandchildren Greg Morris, Gwenne Deguine, Laura Morris, Darcy Alkerton, Carla Labelle, Michael Moulton, Mark Moulton and Michelle Moulton, nine great-grandchildren, sisters Gertrude Smith of Toronto and Eunice Fleming of Vancouver, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, sister Elma Perry and brothers Thomas and Jackson Perry.

The funeral was held November 26 in the chapel of the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, with Cathy Kelso officiating. Burial followed at Maynard Cemetery.

Memorial donations were directed to the E.M. Orr Fund and palliative care.

Bob Kyle, 68

Robert "Bob" Allan Kyle, 68, retired DuPont employee and local coach, died October 20, 2003 at RR 3, Mallorytown. He had been ill with cancer for four years.

He was born October 2, 1935 in South Augusta to George Kyle and the former Ruby White, and attended Prince of Wales and Victoria public schools and Brockville Collegiate Institute.

After high school, he started working at DuPont Canada's Maitland Site and remained with the company until 1984. Then he started working for the Sifton family, retiring in 2002.

He was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, of St. James Lodge AF and AM, No. 74, GRC (Masons) and of the Brockville Country Club.

He coached for the Brockville Minor Hockey Association and girls major softball. He played men's city basketball and officiated for numerous youth athletic programs. He enjoyed curling and attending Ottawa Senators hockey games.

His first loves were his family and time spent at the family cottage at Lower Beverley Lake.

Mr. Kyle is survived by his wife, the former Yvonne Barton, whom he married May 30, 1953 in Trinity Anglican Church; four children, son Jim Kyle of Gormley, Ont., and three daughters, Susan Giff and husband John of Addison, Donna Notari and husband Dan of Burlington and Diane Kyle and Samantha Connelly of Brockville, as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four sisters, Jean Fodey and husband Paul of Brockville, Wilma Spracklin of Brockville, Freda Ryder and husband Don of Whitby and Glenna Bonneau and husband Vince of Prescott; brother Bill Kyle of Brockville, and sister-in-law Dorothy Manoll of Brockville, as well as several nieces/nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, brother John in infancy, sister-in-law Donna Kyle, and brothers-in-law Tom Ryder, Vince Spracklin and Sonny Manoll.

Friends called at the Irvine Funeral Home, Brockville, on October 23. The funeral was held the next day at Trinity Anglican Church, with Rev. Ronald Hörst officiating. Tributes were given by his children, grandchildren and sister Glenna Bonneau, and all were piped out of the church by Ken Larocque.

The pallbearers were grandchildren Jason and Caroline Giff, Sandra and Dan Vandersloot, Kevin McQuade, Ryan Giff and Jill Giff.

Following cremation, burial took place October 25 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland.

Memorial donations were directed to the Canadian Cancer Society, Palliative Care and Trinity Anglican Church.

Alice Beckstead, 52

SPENCERVILLE -- Alice Louise Beckstead, of Spencerville, died suddenly in her home December 12, 2003. She was 52.

Born July 5, 1951 in Ventnor, she was the daughter of Gordon Davidson and Dorothy Wyatt. She was raised in Ventnor where she grew up on the family farm with many other siblings.

She married Arnold Beckstead of Dundela and in 1975 they lived for a number of years in Prescott, where their three children were born.

After Prescott, she moved to Kemptville with her partner Ronald Toy. They later moved to Spencerville.

In her younger years, she worked at Domtar in Prescott, at Black and Decker in Brockville for 23 years, and finally at Camalor in Brockville, where she had worked for five years.

A kind person, she was a giver when she had nothing to give. She had a good sense of humour, hosted a family get-together every year and enjoyed flirting with the men at work, whom she referred to as her "boyfriends."

She was a go-getter who never needed a drink to have fun: she was the life of the party no matter where she was. She was known for her love of Pepsi, teddy bears, crossword puzzles and playing volleyball with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Karen Beckstead, 26, of Cardinal, and Jason Beckstead, 25, and Amanda Beckstead, 20, both of Brockville, and a grandson Brett Bradford.

Also surviving are her brother John Davidson and wife Bonnie of Ventnor and four sisters, Sylvia Marchand and husband Gordon of Spencerville, Bernice Prosser and husband Carl of Cardinal, Mary Jean Brown and husband Keith of Prescott and Betty Higginson and husband Jim of Alabama, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, one sister, Helen Fleming, and a brother, Donald Davidson.

Friends called at the Grant Brown Funeral Home, Spencerville, where on December 16 the funeral was held, with Pastor Blair Paterson officiating. Burial followed at Adams Cemetery, Spencerville.

The pallbearers were Jim Liston, Dana Strang, Kevin Davidson, Dennis Marchand, Mathew Davidson and Mitch Davidson. Honorary pallbearers were Carman Beckstead and Arnold Beckstead.

Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

Thelma Dodge, 96

CARDINAL -- Thelma Violet Dodge, 96, died October 15, 2003 at Brockville General Hospital.

Born November 11, 1906 in Winchester to George Dixon and his wife Nellie, she was the eldest of four children. In 1930 she married John R. Dodge and settled in Cardinal, where she became a homemaker and mother of two sons.

After the death of her husband in 1976, she moved to Brockville where she lived until her death.

She identified with St. Andrew's and St. James Presbyterian Church in Cardinal. She enjoyed entertaining at home and traveling.

Mrs. Dodge is survived by her sons, John E. "Jack" Dodge and Robert J. "Jeff" Dodge and wife Catherine, of Brockville, and her brother Joslin Dixon of Brockville. Also surviving are her grandchildren Diana Lee, John, Tim and Michael Dodge, as well as several great-grandchildren, cousins and nieces/nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Desmond and sister Beatrice.

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Cardinal, where on September 19 the funeral was held, with Rev. Geoffrey Howard officiating. Burial followed at St. Andrew's and St. James Riverside Cemetery in Cardinal.

The pallbearers were John, Tim and Michael Dodge, Doug Philips, Herb Hildebrandt and Danny Bautista.

Lucy Keeble, 91

PRESCOTT -- Lucy Florence Keeble, 91, died December 7, 2003 at Kemptville.

She was born November 7, 1912 in Hempnall, England, to Arthur and Florence Buck. On July 30, 1949 she married Robert Keeble in Hempnall.

She immigrated to Canada and arrived July 1, 1954 at Quebec City. She spent one year in Kingston and moved to the Kemptville area in 1955.

Mrs. Keeble had been a nanny in England and she continued caring for many children in Canada until she was in her late 70s.

She enjoyed playing the piano, bowling, writing letters, traveling and birdwatching.

She is survived by her daughter Christine Slater and husband Chris, grandchildren Rob Slater and Michelle Slater and fiance Darren Bibby, brother Alec Buck and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert on February 7, 2003, her parents, sisters Winnie, Queenie, Millie, Ethel and Dorothy, and brothers Geoff, Frank, Gordon, Sidney and Russell Buck.

Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, where on December 11 the funeral was held with Rev. Ray Porth officiating. Burial followed at Union Cemetery, Kemptville.

The pallbearers were Stuart Spoor, Reg Weedmark, Dalton Gilmer, Perry VanAllan, Ron Stewart and Wilfred Goddard.

Memorial donations to the Kemptville District Hospital will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
