LANSDOWNE -- William Robert "Bill" Webster, 87, died October 21, 2006 at Brockville General Hospital's Garden Street site.
He was born July 12, 1919 in Rockfield, Ont. to Robert Webster and the former Lola Moorehead. Raised and educated in Rockfield, he became a dairy farmer. He sold the farm in 1978.
He had a place on Killenback Lake where he spent much of his time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading (he could remember everything he read or was told).
He had no children but is survived by two sisters, Alice LaPierre at St. Lawrence Lodge and Loreen Crawford and husband Hilliard of Lansdowne, two nephews, Wayne and Wendel Webster, and four nieces, Mary Cross, June Nichols. Elizabeth Boyd and Marleen Wilcox, as well as several great- and great-great-nieces/nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers Nelson and Gordon Webster and a niece Cathy Hayden.
Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Lansdowne, where on October 24 the funeral was held, with Pastor Kevin Shaw officiating. Burial followed at Union Cemetery, Lansdowne.
The pallbearers were Barry Cross, Charlie Hayden, Jim Hayden, Travis Nichols, Parish Nichols and Rodney Webster.
Memorial donations were directed to the ALS Society and other charities of the donors' choice.
Iva Teepell, 96
Iverene (Iva) Teepell died at the Kingston General Hospital on October 16, 2006. She was 96.
A lifelong resident of Delta, she was born on August 29, 1910 in Delta to Edgar Halladay and the former Catherine Amelia Gardiner. She was raised and educated in Soperton and Delta.
She married Harris Erlicher Teepell on September 7, 1929 in Elgin. Mrs. Teepell was a farmer's wife, growing cucumbers for Libby's and working at the Delta maple syrup plant. She retired in 1980.
Her interests included bingo, knitting and going to the casino, and she belonged to the Senior Citizens of Delta.
She is survived by nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father on February 16, 1969, her mother on February 13, 1979, her husband on August 2, 1967 and her children, Myrtle Elizabeth Clark, Raymond Allan Teepell and Gertrude Aileen Hepburn.
She was also predeceased by her siblings, Mary Halladay, and Manley Halladay.
Her funeral services were held at Scotland Funeral Home in Elgin, where visitation was held on October 18 and the funeral itself on October 19.
Pallbearers were Rick Furzer, Earl Casnaw, Rodney Cowan, Brian Cowan, Dennis Halladay and Aaron Teepell. She was interred at Pine Hill Cemetery in Delta.
Memorial donations were directed to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
Ivy Ann Skelton, 95
Ivy Ann Skelton died October 14, 2006 at the Hilltop Manor Nursing Home in Merrickville. She was 95.
She was born Oct. 12, 1911 in Brockville to the late George Weeks and Annie White.
Mrs. Skelton grew up and was educated in Brockville at the Douglas Haig School and later went to work at Black and Decker.
She retired from the company in 1976.
Away from work, she was an avid swimmer and sports fan, with hockey and baseball among her favourite sports. Golf was at the top of her list, though, and she would watch the sport for hours, particularly if Tiger Woods was playing.
She also enjoyed crocheting and baking.
She married William Henry Skelton in Brockville in 1927. Her husband died in 1956.
The couple had five children and Mrs. Skelton is survived by two daughters, Shirley Onland and her husband Ben of Swift Current, Sask. and Nancy James and her husband Elmer of Kemptville, as well as two sons, William and his wife Doreen of Brockville and Edward and his wife Patricia, also of Brockville.
A daughter, Dorothy Gardiner, predeceased Mrs. Skelton.
She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Bignell and her husband Graham of Kitchener, Ruby Gagne and her husband Johnny of Brockville.
Mrs. Skelton was predeceased by her sisters Vicky Foster and Nelly Hutt, her brother Jack Weeks and a stepbrother, Willie Weeks.
She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Oct. 20 at the Irvine Funeral Home in Brockville with the Rev. Laurence Croswell of Centennial Road Standard Church officiating.
Pallbearers were grandsons Stephen Hoy, Stephen Maxwell, Shawn McAfee, Edward Skelton Jr., Robin Hoy and great-grandson Samuel Hoy.
Memorial donations were made to Project Reach Out Canada, which supports missionary work in Ghana and west Africa.
Sobhanieh Taghizadehsadeghi, 81
Sobhanieh Taghizadehsadeghi, 81, a Brockville resident since 1994, died suddenly December 26, 2006 at Brockville General Hospital.
She was born May 5, 1925 in Tehran, Iran, to Gholamhossein Taghizadehsadeghi and his wife, Laghaieh Sadeghi. Raised in Tehran, she graduated from Women's Technical High School in 1943. On June 30, 1944 she married Khanlar Mahmoodi in Tehran. They had four children, one of whom moved to Canada.
She loved to socialize, getting to know new people and making friends. She also loved nature and traveling to new places. Gardening was one of her favourite pastimes.
Her husband died February 4, 1984. Ten years later she immigrated to Canada, in September 1994, to live with her son Sharokh Mahmoodi in Brockville. She was a member of the Baha'i faith and enjoyed attending English as a Second Language classes in 1998-99 at St. Lawrence College.
Mrs. Taghizadehsadeghi is survived by her son Shahrokh Mahmoodi of Brockville, daughter Shahla Mahmoodi and husband Bijan Samadani of Tehran, and son Shahrooz Mahmoodi of New Zealand, as well as eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her father in 1932, her mother in 1981, her daughter Shiva Mahmoodi in 1982, two aunts, one uncle and three cousins. She had no brothers and sisters.
Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, where on December 30 the funeral was held. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, just west of the city. The pallbearers were Shahrokh Mahmoodi, Shahram Ahrari, Freydoon Zibaie and Michael McNeil.
John Van Schie, 77
PRESCOTT -- John Van Schie, RR 1, Prescott, a well-known local businessman, died at his home on July 14, 2007. He was 77 years old.
Johannes Adrianus Van Schie was born on May 1, 1930, at Pynacker, Holland, son of Peter Van Schie and Elizabeth Kuipert.
Mr. Van Schie and his new bride, Margaret (nee DeBruin), arrived in Canada from Holland on April 1, 1953. He was a successful and hardworking businessman. He began his own business, Augusta Motors, in 1956, expanding to Brockville in 1973 to open Brockville Datsun.
In his semi-retirement, Mr. Van Schie spent a great deal of time with his children and grandchildren and enjoyed his days caring for his extensive gardens and creating in his woodworking shop. He loved to sing and was a life member of the St. Mark's Church Choir.
Mr. Van Schie is survived by his wife Margaret and children Peter (Cathy), Ellen Besharah (Lance), John (Nancy), Albert (Patricia), and Patricia Birtch (Dan), 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his siblings in Holland and Canada.
He was predeceased by daughters, Ellen Margaret, in infancy, and Linda Van Schie.
There was a private visitation for Mr. Van Schie.
The Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Prescott on July 17, 2007. Interment took place at St. Mark's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mr. Van Schie's three sons, Peter, John and Albert, and his four grandsons, Kyle, Philip, Ryan and Brandon.
Memorial donations were to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Arrangements were handled by Chris Slater Funeral Home in Prescott.
