WWII Veteran
passed away at the P.R.H.C. on Wednesday July 11, 2012. Archie Balmer of R.R. #2 Lakefield in his 92nd year. Archie was a veteran of WWII, having served overseas with the Royal Scot Greys, “C’ Squadron, 3rd troop, a cavalry regiment. In 1941, Archie was captured and for the next four years he was a prisoner of war until 1945. After he returned home, Archie moved to Pennsylvania, U.S.A. before he and Sadie moved to Lakefield in 1964 where they made their home. Archie was the loving husband of the late Sarah “Sadie” (nee Collington) (2004). Survived and missed by his step-son Jack McEwan (Caroline), step-daughter Helen Muir (Ian), his nephew George (Evelyn) and niece Aileen. Also missed by his dear friends Sherry & Bill Webster and family, Chris & Dean Payne and Terry Foster & Mike Schizkoske. Predeceased by his sisters Mary, Jenny and Maggie and his brothers Willie and Alex. Cremation has taken place. A R.C.L. Branch #77, Lakefield memorial service will be held at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, LAKEFIELD CHAPEL on Wednesday July 18, 2012 at 1:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Archie’s Life. Peacefully on July 12, 2012 at 86 years of age. Loving wife of the late Edison (2010). Cherished mother of Sandra Ryall, Pearl and husband David Giuliano. Will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was a member of Glenwood United Church were she served as a Trustee and lifetime member of the United Church Women. HANER, James Douglas (Doug) 74, died Thursday afternoon after a long struggle with frontal lobe dementia. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Georgi; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Amy; daughter and son-in-law, Dilys and Sean; grandsons, Rhys and Caerwyn; brother and sister, Doug and Rena; several nieces, nephews, and friends. Thank you to Dr. Woodland and the Ward 2 staff at Albright Manor for making his final days comfortable and peaceful. Treasured grandmother of Shannon (Paul) Hurst, Dustin, Nicholas, and Dylan, and great niece Kiana. Thrilled great grandmother of Everett and Angeles. Dearest sister of Mary Sova (Don 1999) and sister-in-law of Anne (Leo) Chmura of Burlington. Predeceased by parents Fred and Anna Ponic and older brother Fred (2003) (Ursula 2008) of Stoney Point. Loved by many nieces and nephews. Helen worked with John to establish Yurke Sales and Service Ltd. 60 years ago. Proud to have worked at and retire from the Comber Post Office, Helen loved playing baseball, gardening, and enjoying her grand kids. She delighted the children of Comber for 60 years with her chocolate Hallowe’en cookies. And her beloved Terrier “Boo Boo”. Dear sister of Chuck Williams of Saskatoon and Finley and his wife Jean Williams of St. Thomas. Predeceased by a brother George (late Stella) and a sister-in-law Stella Williams. Lamoure, Wayne Clarence at London Health Science Centre-University Hospital on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 in his 65th year. Beloved husband of Theresa Marie Lamoure. Dear father of Joel Lamoure and wife Susan of Aylmer and Matthew Lamoure of Aylmer. Loving Papa of Lindsay and Jocelyn. Brother of Wanda Smithers (Fred), Brenda Robbins (Allan), Bryon Lamoure (Kathy), Bev Priddle, Tammy Stobba (Ted). Brother-in-law to Barbara Payne (Arden), Shirley Lynn Dawely (Nathan), Joe Schnekenburger (Cheryl), Ruth Canning, Gail Anastassakis (Chris) and Darcy Pearson. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Born in Tillsonburg on February 13, 1948 son of the late Norman and Dorothy (Carruthers) Lamoure. Wayne retired as Deputy Chief of the Aylmer Police after 28 years of service. He resumed active duty with the Elgin OPP. Wayne was a member of the Air Cadets Squadron 741, the Ontario Assoc. of Chiefs of Police, the Michigan/Ontario Identification Assoc., Col. Talbot Branch #81 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a volunteer at Chateau Gardens and at Peacekeeper Park Lake Whittaker. Friends may call at the H. A.
