Durr, Barbara Ann (Barker)

Durr, Barbara Ann (Barker) of St. Thomas, formerly of Port Stanley, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 10th, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, in her 72nd year. Beloved wife of the late Orville George Durr (2000) and special dear friend of John Ankersmit. Loving mother of Debbie Durr and her partner Casey Siebenmorgan, Donna Gilbert and her husband Craig, and Darlene Durr all of Port Stanley. Dear grandmother of Ashley and Brodie Golem and Joel and Jay Gilbert. Dear sister of Jim Spriggs and his wife Beverley, Jerry Spriggs, Joe Spriggs and his wife Linda, Pat Durdle and her husband Lavern, Rose Gall and her husband Allan and the late Jean Curtis. Barbara will also be lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Barbara was born on February 21st, 1939, daughter of the late Doug Barker and Margaret Till. She was a life long resident of Port Stanley, an avid member of the Port Stanley Legion Bingo Club, and a member of Disciples of Christ Church. Barbara worked for 38 years at Thermodisc. St. Thomas. She will be forever loved and missed by her family and friends.
Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas, where visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 1:00pm at Disciples of Christ Church, 451 Wellington St., St. Thomas. Interment to follow in Union Cemetery. Remembrances may be made the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation or to the Port Stanley Legion Bingo Club.

McCann, James George

McCann, James George of St. Thomas, passed away on Sunday, July 18th, 2010, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, in his 84th year. Beloved husband of 62 years of Lorraine (Evans) McCann. Loved father of Steve McCann (Jacqui) of London, Sharon Lechner (Helmut) of St. Thomas and Sheila Cuzzocrea (Dominic) of London. Much loved grandfather of Jennifer McCann (Ian), Kerry McCann, Aaron and Kylie Lechner and Chelsea and Christian Cuzzocrea. Jim was born in St. Thomas on May 1st, 1927, the son of the late William and Mae (Cunningham) McCann. He was partners in Bolt-McCann Mercury and then owner of McCann Mercury. He was a member of St. Anne’s Church and formerly Holy Angels’ Church. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Golden “K” Kiwanis Club and was a former member of the Highland Golf Club and the St. Thomas Golf and Country Club and a past member of the St. Thomas Curling Club.
Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas until Wednesday morning and then to St. Anne’s Church where Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Cremation to follow, with interment of ashes in Holy Angels’ Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8:45 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Ballantine, Vicky (Hunter) (Pay)

Ballantine, Vicky (Hunter) (Pay) of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, peacefully surrounded by her loving family, in her 72nd year. Beloved wife of the late James Ballantine and the late George Pay. Dearly loved mother of George Pay Jr. (Shirley Tait), Jim Pay, Sue Pay (Shawn), Lori Willson (Ray) and John Pay. Loved grandmother of Jenna, Mike, Jamie, Cindy, Brady, Jason, Mackenzie and Landon and great grandmother of Carter. Dear sister of Sonny Hunter of Michigan. Vicky was born in St. Thomas on December 20th, 1938. She worked at Canadian Timken, Hayes Dana and Singer Controls (Eaton Yale). She also taught piano.
The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A public Memorial service to celebrate Vicky’s life will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Wellington St., St. Thomas on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Hall. Cremation has taken place, with private interment of ashes to take place in Elmdale Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Lung Association or the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit or Continuing Care Unit).

Gilkes, Robert “Bob”

Gilkes, Robert “Bob” of St. Thomas on Friday July 16, 2010 at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital in his 84th year. Beloved husband of the late Margaret Kathleen (Greaves) Gilkes. Loving father of Bonnie (Barry) Smith of St. Thomas, Tom (Penny) Gilkes of London, Dan Gilkes of St. Thomas and Darrin Gilkes. Dear grandfather of Sydney. Dear brother of Irene (Larry) Pike of St. Thomas and Wilfred (late Ethel) Gilkes of Toronto. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Robert was born Sept. 26, 1926 in London, the son of the late Violet and William Gilkes. He was a foreman with the City of London. Robert was a member of the 12 step program.
Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas where funeral service will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. Private interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society.

Harrison, Ross Lundy

Harrison, Ross Lundy of Port Stanley, passed away at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Monday, July 19th, 2010, in his 75th year. Beloved husband of Shirley (Fulcher) Harrison and dearly loved father of Michael and his wife Helen Harrison of Strathroy and Marc and his wife Anne Marie of St. Thomas. Much loved grandfather of Katherine and Kristin and Hannah and Erinn. Dear brother of Shirley Yvonne Pyle of Dunneville. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Ross was born in Welland on May 7th, 1936, the son of the late Harry and Mildred (Lundy) Harrison. He was a retired teacher from Thames Valley Board and taught at A.V.S.S., East and West Elgin and Parkside Collegiate. Ross was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St. David’s Lodge #302 A.F. and A.M., a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shrine and Golden “K” Kiwanis. He enjoyed playing bridge and was an active volunteer in the community.
Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas where funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Union Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home by Officers and Members of St. David’ Lodge #302 on Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation.

Fulton, John Maltman “Jack”

Fulton, John Maltman “Jack” of St. Thomas passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital in his 79th year. Dearly loved husband and best friend of Jean and beloved father of Mark and his wife Gayle of St. Thomas. Much loved grandfather of Cole and Ashley. Dear brother of Katherine Martin (Scotland). Dear brother-in-law of Elizabeth and her husband David Bogart of St. Thomas, Alexandra Fuhrman of St. Thomas, Cecilia and her husband Harold Zinn of St. Thomas and the late James Wilson. Loved uncle of many nieces and nephews in Scotland, Australia, U.S.A. , B.C., Alberta and Ontario. Jack was born in Scotland, March 28th, 1932, the son of the late James and Jeanie Fulton. Jack was a printer by trade and held the position as plant manager at both Consolidated Bathurst and Loder Sutherland. He enjoyed his retirement working at the St. Thomas Health Unit and Knechtel’s Food Mart. He always said for “Beer and Gas Money”. He was a member of First United Church and of Corherhill Masonic Lodge #1426 A.F.& A.M., Glasgow, Scotland. He was a former member of the Talbot Park Golf Club and the St. Thomas Curling Club.
Resting at Williams Funeral Home,45 Elgin St., St. Thomas until Wednesday morning and then to First United Church (7 Curtis St, St. Thomas) where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Union Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cardiac Fitness Institute (800 Commissioners Rd E., London)

Hollywood, Wendy Ann

Hollywood, Wendy Ann of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, on Tuesday, August 17th, 2010 at the age of 56. Dearly loved wife of Brian Hollywood and much loved mother of Alanna Hollywood of London and Laurel and her husband Trevor Wood of Whitby. Specially loved grandmother of Lillia Wood. Dear sister of Wayne Gonder of Huntsville and Cindy Switzer and her partner Paul Nugent of Barrie. Dear sister-in-law of Patricia Ritchie and Janice and her husband Charles Klager all of Cambridge. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Wendy was born in Cambridge on June 16th, 1954, the daughter of the late Norm and Helen (Kauppi) Gonder. Wendy was a retired insurance broker and had worked for Reith Insurance, St. Thomas .
Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas where funeral service to celebrate Wendy’s life will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. Visitation Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Private family interment in Park Lawn Cemetery, Cambridge. Flowers gratefully declined. Remembrances would be appreciated to the Canadian Cancer Society or plant a tree in Wendy’s memory.
