McBRIDE (Worfolk)

Charlotte A., of St. Thomas, on Friday, October 29, 1999, at Caressant Care Nursing Home, beloved wife of Gordon Edward McBride. Born in Whitby, January 1, 1912, second daughter of James Henry Worfolk and Mary Nancy Cooledge. Predeceased by her sister, Hazel Josephine Worfolk, half-sister, Bertha (Worfolk) Parker, half-brothers Peter and Almer, sisters-in-law, Eileen McBride and Helen (King) McBride. Sadly missed by her brother-in-law: Collins McBride (Peterborough); nephew: Robert McBride, and daughters: Catherine, Margaret, and Mary (Indian River); niece: Julia (Worfolk) Noble (Etobicoke); nephew: John Worfolk (Toronto); grandnephew: Brian Worfolk and children, Brian, Eric and Candace (Acton); grandniece: Andrea and children: Adam, Brandon and Julia (Whitby); grandniece: Roseanne (Worfolk) Szilagyi, and children: Michael and Christopher (Whitby); grandnephew: Peter Worfolk and daughter: Sarah (Stroud). Charlotte became a teacher in Whitby in 1935 at King Street Public School and married fellow teacher, Gordon Edward McBride on July 2, 1940 in the garden of her half-sister Bertha (Worfolk) Parker, in Whitby, Ontario, with whom she had lived after the death of her parents. Charlotte and Gordon moved to St. Thomas in 1940 and have resided on Montgomery Road since 1956. They enjoyed their summers at their cottage on Echo Lake in Muskoka. Charlotte had many interests including golfing, community events, theatre, bird watching, photography, travelling, and sewing. She was honoured with a Fellowship in the St. Thomas Rotary Club for her support of the Water Improvements Project in Mexico and was a member of the United Church Women at First United Church. They gained tremendous satisfaction sponsoring a child in China and were recently recognized at First United Church for their years of encouragement and financial support of church activities. They have been blessed with a wide circle of friends in the community. The funeral took place on November 1, 1999, at First United Church, (Reverend David Clinker). Pallbearers were her nephew, Robert McBride, grandniece, Catherine McBride, grandnephew, Brian Worfolk, and good friends, Jim Folland, Bill Donovan and Terry Lees. Interment in Elmdale Memorial Park cemetery , St. Thomas.

NESBITT

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Sam Nesbitt of Springfield, at St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, November 7, 1999, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Opal (Arn) Nesbitt and dearly loved father to Bonnie Smith and husband Ron of Springfield, Karen McKinnon and husband Jim of Southwold, Bob Nesbitt and wife Barb of Springfield, Ted Nesbitt and wife Denise of St. Thomas. Brother to Velma Carrol of Aylmer, Jack Nesbitt and wife Ruth of Aylmer, brother-in-law to Harold and Margaret Arn of Glencoe and Willon and Margaret Arn of Aylmer. Sam was a dedicated grandfather to Rick, Donna, Rob, Bobbi, Jason, Bonnie, Jodi, Hayley and John. One of Sam's greatest enjoyments in life was his 7 great-grandchildren, who he was able to spend so much time with. Sam was a dedicated employee of Carnation Milk Plant in Aylmer for 35 years. At Sam's request no funeral service or visitation will be held. A Public Graveside Service will be held at the Aylmer cemetery on Friday, November 12, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. Donations to the Arthritis Society or the I.C.U. Equipment Fund at St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital can be made at H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer, 519-773-8400.

SMITH

Paula Ross (Kit). Died on November 7, 1999, Paula Ross Kirkpatrick, beloved wife of Robert C. Smith for the past 41 years; dear mother of Kevin (Sharon Johnson) of Shaunavon, Sask., and Brian (Joanne Connors) of Napanee, Ont. Born in St. Thomas, Ont. on December 28, 1932, daughter of the late Robert Kirkpatrick and Mildred Hoppe, she dearly loved her late "Grandpa Charlie" Kirkpatrick. Well loved sister-in-law of Larry and Judy Smith, and Don and Bev Smith, all of London, Ont., and respected aunt of Lisa, Mark, and Cynthia. Paula was a strong and happy person who loved to make others laugh. She had an abiding interest in and thorough knowledge of ancient history, and was an accomplished artist. She endured her third and final battle against cancer with courage and dignity. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, Ontario on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service in the chapel on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be much appreciated by the family.
