Florence Grace Clarke passed away peacefully at the Mitchell Nursing Home with her daughter at her side in her 96th year. She leaves her daughter Cheryl and her husband Paul Simpson, and grandson Michael Simpson. Formerly of Sarnia and Oshawa, and always a daughter of Dublin, Ireland, Pattie (Paddy) will be remembered by friends and acquaintances alike as someone who personified the joy of living. Pattie truly loved people, and made all who met her feel special and important. (A talent those who knew her during her time as receptionist at General Motors South Main Office will remember well) Pattie Clarke was an extra-ordinary lady - one-of-a-kind. EDWARDS, David John
(Retired Chief of Police, Durham Regional Police Service)
David's strength, determination and humour saw him through his long battle with lymphoma. David John Edwards passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. David was the best friend and love of his wife, Rita (Goldman). Son of the late William and Blanche Edwards. Dearly loved by his sister Carol McMath and her husband Steve. Mother-in-law Gertrude Trejbal and the late Robert Trejbal and brother-in-law Arny Goldman. David will be fondly remembered by his niece Jill, nephew Chris, great-niece Ashley and great-nephews Dustin and Dalton, godson Jack and his many friends. David had a real zest for life, seldom missing an opportunity to enjoy the company of his hunting, fishing, golfing and curling friends. He never failed to make us laugh with an unexpected comeback, pun or country song. David was a dedicated Police Officer with the Oshawa Police Force in 1961 which later became the Durham Regional Police Service. With the Durham Regional Police Service, David was instrumental in starting the Youth Bureau and the Criminal Intelligence Branch. During his 31 years in policing he began as a cadet and ended his career in 1992 as Durham Region's Police Chief. David was a former president of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, Vice-President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and Canada's representative on the executive of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. During his life's journey he touched many lives with his strong moral values, integrity, positive attitude, sense of humour and compassion. He will be deeply missed. ROGERS, Daniel, MD
Passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11th, 2006 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Sylvia Rogers. Much loved father of Jeffrey and his wife Alison. He will be sadly missed by his extended family and friends. Prior to entering medical school, Daniel served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was based in Saskatoon, SK. His medical career spanned decades. Daniel graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in l953. Following graduation, Dr. Rogers served as the General Motors plant physician and subsequently became a Family Practitioner in Oshawa for many years. He joined the Anesthesiology Department at Oshawa General Hospital followed by a five-year term as Chief of Staff at OGH. Upon retirement from OGH, Dr. Rogers attended Stanford University in the U.S. to study sleep medicine and worked in that field for another eleven years. Dr. Rogers enjoyed golf, music, puttering around at his cottage, a good game of bridge, and was an avid reader. A private family service was held in Toronto on December 13th. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Lakeridge Health Oshawa would be appreciated.
