It is with sadness that I announce the passing of my wife of 53 years, on her 77th birthday at her residence in Wilmot Creek. Norma fought bravely through many illnesses; however, this recent one proved to be too much. She succumbed this time but not without a battle. Norma was a bright lady who was employed by Reed Stenhouse as an insurance broker for 40 years. I would like to thank all members of the palliative care team, especially Dr. Vincent Ho, the nurses at Paramed, and all the workers at Comcare for the dedication they gave to Norma. Beloved wife and best friend of John Kane of Wilmot Creek. Loving sister of Gilbert Brown and his late wife Frances, Leta Rennie and her husband John, and Jack Clarke and his wife Lynda. Dear aunt of Grant Rennie and his wife Lisa, David Clarke and his wife Jayne, and Wayne Brown. Sadly missed by her four-legged companion Jiggs. PETERS, Garfield Lafoy
It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Gar on Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006 at age of 86. His death followed a courageous battle with Kidney Disease for over eleven years. Adored husband of Frances, his beloved wife of 64 years. Dear father of Terry (Myna), Susan (Jim) and Carol (Gary). Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Christine (Dan), Neal (Allina) and Allison and great-grandchildren Amanda and Kyle. Dear son of the late Tom and Kate Peters and brother of Carlotta (Toddy) and Don Riggs. Gar will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Next to "Fran" the love of his life, he had a passion for the game of hockey. Gar played on two Memorial Cup winning teams for the Oshawa Generals in 1938-39 and 1939-40. He had a contract to play with the Boston Bruins, but with war declared he enlisted. War injuries took away his chance to play in the NHL, but his love for the game lasted for his lifetime. Gar worked at General Motors for over 38 years. He built many homes for his family, relatives and friends. Gar was always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed it, whether it was building houses, helping renovate the homes of his children and grandchildren or working on the farms of his friends. Gar always had a smile and a good word for everyone and a wonderful attitude about life. Words can not describe the depth of our loss and how much he will be missed. We invite friends to join with us in a Celebration of the Life of this amazing man that we are so proud to have had in our lives. Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King St. West (905-721-1234) for visitation on Thursday, November 23rd from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 P.M. and on Friday, November 24th from 1:00 P.M. until time of Funeral Service in the Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Memorial donations in Gar's memory to the Renal Dialysis Unit - Whitby or the Charity of your choice would be appreciated.
