BLAKE, Hugh
(Retired Toronto Police Officer)
After a brief illness, Hugh passed away on August 31, 2006 at the St. Michael's Hospital. Beloved husband of Linda. Loving father of Stephen, Jacqueline, Glenn and Laura. Cherished grandad of Michael, Kayla, Courtney and Coleman. As per his wishes, a private family ceremony will take place in lieu of a public service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mount Lawn Reception Centre, (905)665-0600. If so desired, donations to the St. Michael's Hospital Heart Fund would be appreciated.

BOYKO, Peter
General Motors Retiree.
Peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at Lakeridge Health Whitby at the age of 93. Peter, beloved husband for 56 years of Kathy Boyko (nee Forst). Loving father of Peter William Boyko and Michael Alexander George Boyko. Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, on Tuesday, September 5th, from 10am until service time at 11am. Cremation. Memorial Donations to the Alzheimer's Society or the Cerebral Palsy Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Loving Nonna of Pasquale (Amanda), Rob, Christina (Jason); John (Tracey), Pasquale (Stephanie), Michael (Shawna); Frank (Jennifer), Lisa (Matt), Patrick (Becki); Christopher, Patrick and Martin, and Great-Nonna of Alexandra, Skyler, Gabriela and Crystal. Predeceased by her sister, Camilla. Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL SERVICE "Thornton Chapel", 847 King St. West (905-721-1234), for visitation on Tuesday, September 5th from 2 - 4 and 6 - 9 P.M. (Parish Prayers will be recited at 8:00 P.M.) Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH (373 Simcoe St. S.) on Wednesday, September 6th at 10:00 A.M. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

At his residence, after a courageous battle with colon cancer, on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at the age of 57. Jim Foster, beloved husband of Susan. Loving father of Vanessa and her husband, Brad Menzies. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Dallas, Marcie, Hunter and Gracie. Dear brother of Bill Foster and predeceased by brother, Robert Foster and sister, Joan Pryde. Uncle to several nieces and nephews. Jim began his career with General Motors as a co-op student in 1968. He graduated from GMI, Kettering University as a Mechanical Engineer in 1973. Jim was a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario. Resting at the COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice 905-432-8484 (corner of Sandringham Drive and Highway #2, Courtice) with Funeral Service in the Chapel on Friday, September 1 at 10 a.m. The family of Jim will receive friends on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations to the Durham Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated.

STEPHENS, Joan
Peacefully on August 31, 2006, at home, surrounded by her loving family in her 76th year. Loving mother of George (Anna-Marie); stepmother of John (Anne Stephens) and Rosemarie (Hans Steffan). Cherished grandmother of Jimmy (Theresa Chandler), Peter (Maureen Chandler), Dorothy (Ray Whittaker), John (Michelle Stephens). Will be sadly missed by great-grandchildren: Angela, Paul, Christopher, Erica, Mitch, Adam, Steven, David, Natasha and great-great-grandson Johnny. Beloved aunt of Vicky (Dan MacPherson). Loved by many others. Family & friends will be received at Mount Lawn Reception Centre, 21 Garrard Rd., Whitby, ON (just north of Hwy 2), on Sunday September 3, 2006 from 1pm until the time of service in the chapel at 4pm.

THOMPSON, Sally Victoria
Peacefully, at Hillsdale Terraces, on Thursday, August 31, 2006. Sally (nee Nelson) in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Henry Thompson. Dearly loved mother of Shirley Reid and Jeri McKay. Devoted and loving Nana to Carol Sturman, George Reid, Cathy Houthuys, Greg McKay, Brian McKay, Grant McKay and their families. Remembered by her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her five brothers and four sisters. Services were held at McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558), Cremation with interment at Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens, Whitby. Donations, made in memory of Sally, to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated.

CARTER, Gayle Patricia
Died peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, August 30th. Loving wife of 43 years to Gerald. Wonderful mother to Christopher and Stewart. Gayle will be forever missed by her brother, Ron and her sisters, Lyn, and Cathie. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 6th at the Salvation Army Oshawa Temple, 570 Thornton Rd. N., Oshawa. Family will be receiving guests from 10am until time of service at 11am. Reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, it was Gayle's desire that donations be made to the Salvation Army Oshawa Temple.

GARD, James Edward (Jim)
Peacefully passed away with his loving wife, Edith by his side in the early hours of Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa. Jim was born on January 18, 1927 to James and Gladys (nee Leigh) Gard in the village of Ormskirk, near Liverpool, England. Jim will be profoundly missed by his wife, Edith (Preston) to whom he had been married for over 56 years. Jim was the father of three: Glynis Gard (deceased 2005), Brian and his wife, Lorraine, Kate Hull and her husband, Jeff. He was the best grandpa to Natasha Dickinson, Autumn Gard, Ted Gard and Simon Hull. Jim was the most special great-grandpa to Zoe Gard and Bradley Gard-Keating. Jim will also be missed by his brothers, William (Bill) Gard and his wife, Elsie, and his brother, Harry Gard and his wife, Bridgette. He was predeceased by his oldest brother, Frank and his wife, Marjorie. Jim will also be missed by his many relatives in the Niagara Region, England, Germany, and Australia. At the age of 17, he enlisted in His Majesty's Service as a technical specialist in the signal corps and served proudly in England, Egypt, Malaysia, and India, for over 12 years. During his enlistment time, he met Edith Preston, whom he married in 1949. In 1957, the family immigrated to Canada, where Jim worked at AV Roe on the CF-105 Arrow Fighter Project. Later, he settled with his family in Oshawa, and Jim began working in the Toolroom at General Motors of Canada. Soon after, he started his own manufacturing business, Oshawa Precision Machining Ltd., which he managed until his retirement in 1996. Jim was past-president of the Oshawa Soccer Club, as well as a Board Member for the Oshawa/Clarington Association for Community Living. He was Chairman and founding member of the Durham Region Foundation for Community Living and worked tirelessly over the years on their behalf. He was also involved in the early stages of Durham College technical trades training program. At this time, the family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Devost and the Palliative care team at LHO Oshawa, and the nursing staff on 9 Main. Relatives and friends will be received at the McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905)433-5558, on Tuesday, September 5 from 1-3 p.m. followed by a service in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Oshawa/Clarington Association for Community Living. His memory will live in our hearts forever.

GLEN, Catherine (nee Niblett)
Suddenly at Toronto Western Hospital on Wednesday, August 30th, 2006 in her 52nd year. Dearly beloved wife of Stephen. Loving and supportive mother of Matthew (Braidy), Jaclyn (Dave) and Andrew (Whitney). Cherished daughter and best friend of Anne Niblett and the late Jack and daughter-in-law of Marilyn Glen and the late James. Dear sister of Don (Lynn) and Larry (Caroline). Special aunt to many nieces and nephews and special great-aunt to Baby Jack. Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL SERVICE "Thornton Chapel", 847 King St. West (905-721-1234), for visitation on Thursday, August 31st from 7 - 9 P.M. and Friday, September 1st from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 P.M. Funeral Service in the Chapel on Saturday, September 2nd at 11:00 A.M. Interment to follow at Thornton Cemetery. Donations to the Hospital for Sick Children or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

HARKNETT, Dorothy
Passed away peacefully at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Port Perry, on Wednesday, August 30, 2006. Dorothy Harknett dearly beloved wife of Ralph Harknett of Port Perry. Dear sister of Kathleen Palumbo, Joan Passerini and predeceased by Jean Drury and Ernest Drury. Dorothy will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends. At the request of Dorothy, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations to the Parkinson Society would be appreciated.

HOWARD, Ora
On August 30, 2006, surrounded by her family at Mount Sinai Hospital. Ora, loving wife of Dennis. Loving mother of Dezi and his wife, Tammy, and Dwayne and his wife, Rebecca. Cherished Granny of Ethan. Dear Sister of Jackie Gibbs, Sybil Horton, Donald Gibbs, Cecil Gibbs, Beryl Walker, and Esla Gibbs. Ora will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 2nd, 2006 at St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, 21 Bayly Street East, Ajax.

JONES, Glynn M. (Skip)
Suddenly and peacefully at home, Glynn passed away on August 30, 2006 at the age of 63. He is survived by sisters, Linda Hinton and Sandra Jones; children, Robyn Panchan and Glynn Jones Jr.; Grandchildren, Khamar Tianna, Sarah and Madelynn. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews and friends. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, with funeral service in the chapel on Friday, September 8, 2006 at 11 a.m. Cremation. Memorial donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday from 7 - 9 p.m.
