WESTWOOD, Rowena "Rona" (nee Kingscott)
With sadness, we announce the passing of Rona Westwood on Sunday, September 20, 2009, in her 85th year. Wife of the late William (Bill) and mother to Wayne & his wife, Valerie; Russell & his wife Wendy; and Paul. Survived by her sister, Betty O'Brien of Wildomar, California. Missed by her many dear friends she made at Wilmot Creek. A Memorial Service will be held at THE NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. N. Bowmanville, on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 11am. Reception to follow at the Wheelhouse, Wilmot Creek at 12 noon. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Bowmanville Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be made to the Memorial Hospital Foundation - Bowmanville.

BRONISHEWSKI, Stanley William
Suddenly at the Lakeridge Health Corporation, Oshawa, Ontario, on Saturday, September 19, 2009. Stanley Bronishewski, in his 80th year, was an employee at General Motors Oshawa for 43 years. Beloved husband of Lorraine (nee Holmes). Loving father to Craig (Donna) of Powell River, B.C., Theresa of Roseneath, ON, and Thomas (Tracie) of Oshawa, ON. Cherished grandfather to Jennifer, Ashleigh, Drew, Ryan, Emily, Taylor and MacKenzie. Fondly remembered by great-grandchildren Kyle, Jennifer, Austin and Madison, and step-grandfather to Mike and Chris of Powell River, B.C..Dear brother of Millie Prazmouski and the late Josephine Gilewski, and brother-in-law of Shirley MacDonald and the late Harry Holmes. Resting at COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice, ON L1E 2H7 (905-432-8484), with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Hedwigs Roman Catholic Church, 411 Olive Ave. E., Oshawa, ON., on Thursday, September 24th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Canadian Diabetic Association or the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.

CARSWELL-STURGESS, Emily Fay
Passed away on September 19th 2009 at the Rouge Valley Health Centre in Ajax Ontario in her 87th year. Beloved wife of the late Donald Sturgess and the late Bob Carswell. Loving Mother of Pat Dau (Brian), Bob Carswell (Lori) and Tony Carswell and the late Sylvia Toffan. Dear Mother-in-law of Ken Toffan and cherished Nan of Christine Carswell. Beloved sister of Pat and Jim. She is predeceased by her siblings Samuel, Gladys, Sylvia and Bill. Fay will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend Sandi Hanoski. Fay touched the hearts of everyone she met with her friendly smile and amazing sense of humour. She always had time to pass on an encouraging word or a simple act of kindness. Fay loved to laugh and lived life to the fullest, but her greatest love was her family. Resting at W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby, (905) 668 - 3410. Visitation will take place on Wednesday Sept 23rd 2009 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm. The funeral service will take place on Thursday Sept 24th 2009 at 11 am in the chapel. If desired, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cancer Society.

HOLMES, Joan (nee Horodelski)
Peacefully at home after a lengthy illness on Saturday, September 19th, 2009. Beloved wife of Wayne, 37 years. Loving mother of Jason (Becky), Ryan, predeceased by her son Tyler. Grandmother of Casey. Dear sister of Bill, Mike (Marilyn), Russell, Frances (Tony). Sister-in-law of Dorothy and Glenn (Sally). Special thank you to the staff at The Village of Taunton Mills for their exceptional care. Passed away with his family by his side at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Saturday, September 19 th, 2009. Frank in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Angela Kovacic. Dear father of Victor and Zdenka. Brother of Steve and Peter Kovacic. Frank leaves behind his extended family in Europe. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa. With Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of The People Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 10 a.m. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Prayers will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

PATTERSON, Anna (nee Grant)
October 25, 1916 - September 19, 2009
Peacefully left us to be with God, at Northumberland Hills Hospital on Saturday, September 19th, 2009 at age 92. Dearly loved wife of the late Jack Patterson (1981). Anna is remembered and always loved by her sister-in-law Anne Grant who cared for Anna at Grantwood. Predeceased by her brother Alan Grant and sister Margaret Reid (Grant). A special Aunt Fondly remembered by nieces Patricia Walker (Ronald) of Guelph, Nancy Dungan (Jeff) of California. Remembered by her cousin Mary Jane Grant of Cobourg. Anna graduated nursing in 1940 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Anna practiced her profession at Brooklin Medical Center many years. Anna 's faith in God and her Church sustained her throughout her entire life. Resting at MEMORIAL CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby from 12:00 Noon Thursday, September 24th, until time of funeral service to follow in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Whitby Chapter OES # 248 will hold a service immediately preceding the funeral at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at GROVESIDE CEMETERY, Brooklin. In memory of Anna memorial donations may be directed to the Charity of your choice.

POWELL, Stanley Eric Thomas (Stan)
(Former President and Life Member of the Newcastle Lions' Club since 1968; member of Newcastle United Church; former employee of J. Anderson Smith & Co., the C.P.R., and a custodian from 1952 to 1987 at Newcastle United Church, Newcastle Community Hall, Clarke High School, and O.P.P. Station.)
After a brief illness, surrounded by his family at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Saturday, September 19, 2009, in his 81st year. Stan, beloved husband for 61 years of Kathleen 'Kay' (nee Toms). Loving father of Elizabeth and her husband Wayne Markle of Scarborough, Judy Powell and her partner Lynn Piggott of Oshawa, Dale and her husband Wayne Hunt of Pontypool, and the late Harold. Sadly missed by grandchildren Alyssa and her husband Rob Hewson, Andrew Markle and his wife Megan, Russell, Grayden, and Adrien Hunt, and great-grandchildren Natalie, Makenna, Ryan, Aiden and Sam. Brother of the late Rita Flintoff and Grace Shetler. Friends may call for a memorial visitation at the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S. (just north of 401 at the lights) on Wednesday, September 23, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Lions Service, immediately followed by a Memorial Service, will be held in NEWCASTLE UNITED CHURCH on Thursday, September 24, at 2:00 p.m. Donations in Stan's memory to the Lions Foundation of Canada or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by his family.

Suddenly at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Friday, September 18, 2009. Don Burke at the age of 43. Loving husband and best friend of Michelle (Nee: Ritchie), Adored father of Madison and Alexander. Son of Donda and James Burke. Cherished nephew of Joseph and Valerie Burke, and Susan Fife (Jim). Dear cousin of Corina (Michael), Christopher (Monica) and Joseph (Kirsten). Beloved son-in-law of Rita and George Ritchie. Beloved brother-in-law of Denise McMaster (Scott). Loved grandson of Donald Roberts. Dear brother of James, Bernadette, Ryan and the late Ken. Don will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Resting at COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice L1E 2R7 (905-432-8484) with Memorial Service in the Chapel on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 1:00PM. Retired City of Oshawa Employee, Peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2009 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa at the age of 75. Stanley, son of the late Pearl Hall. Loved brother of Rhea Branton (late Bruce), Muriel Middleton (late Noel), Evelyn Ambeault (late Russell), Beatrice Winnacott (late Cecil), Don Hall, the late Winnifred Kellar (late Edward), and the late Alta Ambeault (Percy). A grave side funeral service will be held at Oshawa Union Cemetery (King & Thornton) on Thursday, September 24th at 3pm. Rev. David Moore officiating. LaCOURSE, Joseph Leon Claude
Peacefully, after a lengthy illness on Friday, September 18, 2009, at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Port Perry, at age 70. Claude LaCourse of Port Perry, beloved husband of Marilyn (nee Bergie). Loved father of Jamie LaCourse of Port Perry, Pennie and her husband Mike Alfred of Brampton, Claude LaCourse and his wife Debbie of Port Perry, Rick LaCourse and his wife Krista of Lakefield and Colette LaCourse of Port Perry. Claude will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his brothers and sisters. If desired, memorial donations may be made by cheque through the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) to the Canadian Cancer Society.
