After a courageous battle with cancer Paul passed away at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Sunday, January 14, 2007 in his 58th year. Beloved husband of Jeanette. Loving dad of Lauren and Colin. Also will be sadly missed by his father Ralph and his brothers Robert (Carol), David (Linda), Michael (Marlene), Mark and sister Mary. Paul is pre- deceased by his mother Theresa. Archbishop Meagher passed away peacefully at his family home in Oshawa, surrounded by the love and caring support of his family, on Sunday, January 14, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 17, 1940, in Oshawa, Ontario, and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Toronto in 1972. He served in various parishes of that Archdiocese before being named an Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto in 1997. He was appointed Archbishop of Kingston in 2002. He is survived by his beloved aunt, Antoinette Giroux, his sister-in-law, Sharlene Mann, his niece, Deborah Blais (Robert), his grand-nephew, Nathaniel Blais, and his cousins Laurie and Mary Frances Kane. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank Meagher and Lillian Giroux, and by his brother, Butch. Archbishop Meagher is fondly remembered by the priests, deacons, religious, and laity of the Archdiocese of Kingston; by members of other faith communities in this city and beyond; and particularly by those who have also been called to carry the cross of suffering and illness. His warmth, approachability, good humour, and dedication endeared him to the people whom he served so well, and his spirit of hope and courage inspired all who knew him. Archbishop Meagher will lie in state at St. Mary's Cathedral, 279 Johnson Street, Kingston, Ontario, (613) 546-5521, on Thursday, January 18, 2007, from the Rite of Reception at 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. In recognition of his respect for all faith traditions and of his commitment to peaceful dialogue, an inter-faith vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 18 at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Archbishop will also lie in state on Friday, January 19 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 19 at the Cathedral. Rite of Committal with Prayers will take place on Saturday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the family plot at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Rossland Road east of Brock Street, Whitby, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Priests' Benefit Fund of the Archdiocese of Kingston or the Shepherd's Trust of the Archdiocese of Toronto would be appreciated. In the care of GORDON F.
