HEPBURN, (Teepell) Gertrude Aileen
On May 25, 2002 in her 59th year after a brief illness at Norwood Palliative Care, Edmonton, survived by her husband Douglas (Tony) Hepburn of Edmonton, her mother Iva Teepell of Delta, daughter Cindy Stang, Edmonton, grandchildren Tanya and Jason Stang, Edmonton. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her father Harris Teepell, brother Raymond Teepell and sister Myrtle Clark.
Cremation and private burial in Edmonton. Expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

MINISH, Victoria
Peacefully at home on May 30, 2002, age 90, Victoria Minish (nee Kinch) of North Augusta. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth Minish. Dear mother of Phyllis Pimperton of North Augusta, Hazel Shanks (Wilbert) of Elgin, Bill Minish (Sharon) of Frankville. Mother-in-law of Dorothy Minish of Morrisburg. Fondly remembered by nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Asman Kinch and Margaret Corr, son Cecil, son-in-law Gerald Pimperton, great-granddaughter Victoria and sisters Grace Ferguson, Blanche Hart, Sarah Edwards and brothers Clifford, Ells James and John.
Visitation will be held at the Grant Brown Funeral Home, Purcell Chapel, Spencerville on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Monday at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Sandy Hill Cemetery, North Augusta. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice would be gratefully acknowledged.

NOLAN, Debbie
Peacefully at Providence Place, Toronto on Thursday, May 30th, 2002, Debbie Nolan of Toronto in her 55th year. Beloved daughter of Bill Nolan of Gananoque (formerly of Elgin) and the late Eleanor Langlois. Dear sister of Maureen Nolan of Toronto. Fondly remembered by her uncles Hubert Langlois of Montreal, Joseph (Glenna) Langlois of Elgin, Pat O’Brien of Huntsville and aunt Theresa Alleyn of Montreal as well as many cousins.
The family will receive friends at the Scotland Funeral Home, 27 Main Street, Elgin on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at Lillies Baptist Cemetery on Monday morning at 11 o’clock. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations made to the Toronto Star Fresh Air Fund or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

COON, Daisy, E.
Peacefully at Kingston General Hospital of Sunday, April 14, 2002, Daisy Henry of Elgin, in her 97th year. Predeceased by husband W.O. Ormond Coon and by daughter Joan MacRow. Dear mother of Gwen Murdock of Grimsby, Wylie of Elgin, Margaret and her husband Gerald Emmons of Napanee, Linda and her husband Henry Sly of Elgin, Eric and his wife Doreen of Smiths Falls. Fondly remembered by 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Scotland Funeral Home, 27 Main Street, Elgin on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday afternoon from 12 noon until time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Interment Halladay Cemetery, Elgin. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

HUNTER, Clifford G.
Peacefully at the Winchester and District Memorial Hospital on Sunday, April 14, 2002, Clifford Hunter of RR2, Iroquois in his 82nd year. Loving husband of Dorothy Casell. Dear father of Graham (Elaine) of Williamsburg, Linda Hunter at home, Ralph (Sherri) of Cardinal, Sharon (Kevin) Molson of Iroquois, Ray (Laura Levere) of Iroquois and Shelley (Kevin) Duff of Morrisburg. Predeceased by a brother Lloyd and a sister Helen Stewart. Sadly missed by seven grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Marsden McLaughlin Funeral Home, Iroquois on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 17 at 11 a.m. Donations to the Winchester and District Memorial Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

LONG, Mavis Louise
At Riverview Manor, Peterborough, on Saturday, April 13, 2002, Mavis (Casselman) formerly of Brockville in her 80th year. Wife and good friend of the late Glen Fleming, the late James Long (1981), and the late Paul Heagle (1954). Loving mother of Sheila Hurst (Ted) of Toronto, Paula-Jean Manley of Lakefield and Jamie Long. Dear grandmother of Lisa, Dalice, Daniel and the late Joshua and great-grandmother of Bronte, Brody, Jeffery and Bryson.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Hendren Funeral Home, Lakefield on Friday, April 19, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation one hour prior to service. Rev. Father Damian Smullen officiating. If so desired memorial, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

McAVITY, Col. James M. , DSO, MBE
James Malcolm McAvity, born in Westmount, PQ, 1909, in a family associated with St. John, NB for more than 150 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, in his 93rd year. He is survived by his widow Margaret, children Virginia Heward wife of Chil Heward, Ian McAvity, three grandchildren James and Geoffrey Heward and Tricia (Heward) Easton, and three great-grandchildren Cassandra and Michael Heward and Willa Easton. Jim was educated at Ridley College and graduated from RMC in 1931. He served with and ended up as C.O. of the Lord Strathcona's Horse (R.C.) Regiment in WWII, and was Colonel of the Regiment from 1966 to 1971. Waiting for reparation in Holland in 1945, he wrote a regimental history, “A Record of Achievement, Lord Strathcona's Horse, Royal Canadians” (pub. 1947) which was republished in 1996. His outstanding business career started with Consumers Glass, before and after WWII and Seagram Co. from 1946 to 1963, including terms as President of The House of Seagram Ltd., and a director of the parent company. From 1963 to 1978 he set up and served as President of The Canadian Export Association, based in Montreal. He was very active in Montreal based charities, golf, tennis and curling clubs. He was a past President of Canadian Lawn Tennis Association, a founding and active member of the Eagle River Salmon Fishing Club in Labrador, and past Captain of Royal Montreal Golf Club and Mount Bruno Golf Club, and among other interests, President of Sir Arthur Curry Branch of the Legion. In his eighties, he became an artist, with his paintings hanging in many cottages near The Ojibway Club at Pointe au Baril, ON.
A Family Service is to be held on Tuesday, April 16 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Brockville at 2 p.m. Donations to the Brockville General Hospital Foundation, Brockville, ON would be appreciated. Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville entrusted with the arrangements.

SNELL, David I.
Passed peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2002 at the Brockville General Hospital, David Ian Snell at the age of 77 years. Beloved husband of F. Dawn (Childerhose) Snell. Also survived by his sister Patricia Smith of Brockville by several nieces and nephews, and by sisters-in-law Joan Tench of Lyn and Diaan Ainslee of New York City. Predeceased by his brothers Donald and Herbert Snell and by his sister Marjorie Fisher.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Cremation at the Roselawn Tribute Centre and Crematorium, Maitland. In remembrance, donations to the S.P.C.A. or charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged and may be arranged with Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville.

SPRIGINGS, John Edward Howard
Peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at the Brockville General Hospital after a full and active life. Beloved husband of Gale and of the late Grace Keenan. Loving father of Kathryn and her husband Bob Hall of Orillia, Gael and her husband John Dodd of Langley, B.C. and Eric Sprigings and his wife Barbara of Saskatoon and stepfather of Gary Less and his wife Danielle of Boston, Patrick Less of Toronto and Tammy and her husband Jeffrey Whitteker of Chesterville. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Michael Hall, Jennifer Hall and her husband Rob Grand, Alison Hall, Stephen and David Dodd, Fraser and Jennie Sprigings, and step-grandchildren Joshua, Benjamin, Joelle and Noah Less, Morgan and Cassidy Whitteker. Predeceased by his brother Gordon Sprigings.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In celebration of John’s life, a ceremony will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Brockville on Wednesday at 2 o’clock. Cremation to follow at the Roselawn Tribute Centre and Crematorium, Maitland. Interment at a later date at Oakland Cemetery. In remembrance, donations to St. Peter’s Anglican Church or the charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged.

VANDUSEN, Lawrence H. “Joe”
At Brockville General Hospital, suddenly on April 14th, 2002, Lawrence VanDusen of RR3, Brockville at the age of 79 years. Beloved husband of the former Lois Sheets. Loving father of Eric VanDusen, Jeremy VanDusen and his wife Loretta, and Carolyn Avery. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Adam VanDusen, Regina VanDusen, Colin and Hillary Avery. Also survived by his sister Margaret Nunn of Kingston. Predeceased by his brothers Walter and Nelson VanDusen and his sister Dorothy Grier.
Family and friends are invited to a ceremony in celebration of Joe’s life at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. and at a gathering to follow in the Irvine Funeral Home Reception Centre. Cremation at the Roselawn Tribute Centre and Crematorium, Maitland. In remembrance, donations to the Heart and Stoke Foundation or the Brockville General Hospital Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged.
