ATHENS -- James Edward Bellamy, 77, a resident of Maple View Lodge here since 1975, died at the lodge May 12.
He was born February 4, 1927, in Toledo to Harold Bellamy and the former Ethel Gardiner. He had cerebral palsy since his birth.
He lived many years in the Greenbush and Rocksprings areas before moving to the lodge.
He identified with the United Church. He enjoyed travelling, visiting, television and talking books from the public library and all the activities at the lodge.
Mr. Bellamy is survived by his brother Warren Bellamy of Lake Eloida and sisters Lorna Johnston of Greenbush and Myrtle Johnston of Redan, as well as his aunt, Dorothy Delaurier of Almonte, and 16 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers-in-law Ralph Johnston and David Johnston and a niece, Karen Johnston.
The funeral was held May 14 at the Judson Funeral Home, Athens, with Rev. Dolly Dikens, Athens/Addison United Church officiating. His nephew Lyle Johnston read the Scripture. Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland.
The pallbearers were five nephews, Bruce, Hugh, Lorne, Cecil and Steve Johnston, and one cousin, Bill Delaurier.
Memorial donations were directed to the Maple View Lodge redevelopment fund and auxiliary.
George Fowler, 77
IROQUOIS -- George Fowler, 77, a retired mechanical engineer with Canada Starch, died May 13, 2004 at Ottawa Civic Hospital.
He was born in Ridgetown, Ont., on April 5, 1927. His parents, Wilber and Grace Fowler, were both born in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Wilber Fowler came to Iroquois as a Bank of Montreal manager, so George attended Iroquois High School and Iroquois United Church. He graduated from Queen's University with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in 1952.
He met Marjorie Wert at Sydenham Street United Church, in Kingston, and they were married August 24, 1954 in Avonmore, Ont.
He worked first at Horton Steel in Fort Erie, then Phillips Cables in Brockville and finally Canada Starch in Cardinal. He remained with the latter company for 36 years, working in the engineering office and travelling extensively for the parent company, Corn Products International, to Switzerland, Australia, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil and the United States.
At home he enjoyed summer vacations with family and friends. He and Marjorie, with friends John and Elaine McClintock and their families, enjoyed camping in the Thousand Islands and travelling to Newfoundland and England.
The Fowler family also travelled to Algonquin Park where they gloried in the beauty of nature and the joy of canoeing on the lakes and rivers. They travelled across Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific. They also travelled to Mexico, Scotland, Ireland and Hawaii.
When his three sons became Scouts, Mr. Fowler and his friend Ron Graham became Scout leaders, instructing, camping, canoeing and attending jamborees.
He loved the outdoors, especially getting out in the bush. He had planted his farm at RR 2, Iroquois, with Christmas and timber trees. His interest in forestry led to his involvement in many organizations such as the Christmas Tree Growers of Ontario, Ontario Maple Syrup Producers, Canadian Forestry Association, Eastern Ontario Model Forest and the Ontario Woodlot Association.
Mr. Fowler was a charter member of the Iroquois Power Squadron, becoming district commander in 1978. He and his wife taught courses for many years and were made life members.
A member of Iroquois United Church, he served on the official board and was a member of the board of trustees at the time of his death. He served as a longtime member of the Seaway Valley Presbytery, sometimes representing Iroquois United Church, other times Rideau Hill Camp. He was chairman of the board of Rideau Hill Camp for a few years and served more than 40 years altogether on the board.
He was also a member of the Friendly Brothers Masonic Lodge 143, Iroquois, for more than 50 years.
Mr. Fowler is survived by his wife Marjorie; three sons, John of Kingston, William and wife Janet of Iroquois, Robert of RR 2, Iroquois; grandchildren Colin, Beverly, Bruce and Bronwyn; and niece Kelly Good of Lunenburg, N.S.
He was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Good in July 1962.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Iroquois, on May 15. The funeral was held May 16 in Iroquois United Church, with Rev. Douglas Carnegie officiating. Burial followed at Iroquois Point Cemetery, Iroquois.
The pallbearers were Gary Ivens, Lee Hanes, Dean Summers, Jack Tousaw, Dale Cook, Clare Brown, Barry Brown and Dave Chapesky.

Muriel Donaldson
Muriel Donaldson, 90, a resident of Fairfield East most of her life, died June 14, 2004 at Brockville General Hospital.
Born January 9, 1914 at the family homestead on the southwest corner of North Augusta and Fairfield roads, at Fairfield East (RR 5, Brockville), Muriel Emma Pyke was the daughter of Peter Pyke and the former Emma Alberry.
She met David Donaldson, of Scotland, when he came to work for a Fairfield farmer, Harry Tristram. They were married in Christ Church, Gananoque, on March 23, 1940. The couple lived in her homestead at Fairfield most of their married life. Three years ago she moved to an apartment in Brockville, where she lived until her death.
For many years, Mrs. Donaldson served as the rural correspondent for Fairfield East, sending regular reports on neighbourhood doings to The Recorder and Times.
She was also a member of Manhard United Church and belonged to Fairfield Women's Institute for 67 years. She enjoyed her pets, feeding the birds, growing beautiful flowers and maintaining a vegetable garden.
Mrs. Donaldson was predeceased by her husband on June 11, 2002 and by her four sisters, May Chisamore (husband Alex), Hazel Chisamore (husband Kenneth), Edith McLean (husband Arthur) and Bessie Foley (husband Bryce), and two brothers, Herb and Richard Pyke. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, where on June 17 the funeral was held, with Julie Ann Levette officiating. Family friend Victor Johnston spoke during the service. Burial followed at Manhard Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Lorne Thompson, Bob Noonan, Victor Johnston and Donald Greer.

Donald Landon, 83
ELGIN -- Donald Adelbert Landon, 83, of Lyndhurst, died May 25 at Kingston General Hospital. He had had acute leukemia and was very ill for three days.
Born July 18, 1920 in Alberta, he was the son of Stephen Landon and the former Mabel Spafford. He moved from Alberta to Lyndhurst when he was a young child and attended Lyndhurst Public School.
He served in the Second World War for four and a half years.
He moved to Ottawa and worked as a refrigeration and air conditioning technician for J. C. Robinson and Sons there for 35 years. He retired 20 years ago.
Mr. Landon was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 504 in Lyndhurst. He loved flower and vegetable gardening.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Colombe Mayotte, but is survived by his second, the former Bernice Sheffield, whom he married February 14, 1981 in St. Luke's Anglican Church, Lyndhurst.
He is survived by 10 children: sons Mike Landon and wife Barb and Joseph Landon and wife Theresa, all of Ottawa, stepsons Rick Earle and wife Patricia of Brampton and Gregory Earle and wife Cindy of Grimsby; five daughters, Patricia Maxsom and husband Keith of Greeley, Suzann Dickie and husband Jack of Ottawa, Carmelle Lafontaine and husband Joseph of Alberta, Lorna Anderson and husband Dennis of Ottawa, Bonnie Landon of Ottawa and stepdaughter Lorraine Mustard and husband Stephen of Sydenham.
Also surviving are his brother Bill Landon and wife Iris of Kingston and sisters Millie Miller of Fort Erie and Ruby Slack of Kingston, 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his daughter Peggy-Ann O'Rourke and grandson Joel Mustard.
Friends called at the Scotland Funeral Home, Elgin, where on May 27 his Legion branch held a memorial service. The funeral was held May 28 at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Lyndhurst. Cremation followed and a graveside service was held June 19 at Lillies Cemetery. Father Reg Gilbert officiated.
The pallbearers were Joe, Stephen and Shawn Landon, Kevin Dickie and Rick and Greg Earle.

Ronald Kelly, 72
ELGIN -- Ronald Lawrence Kelly, 72, of Delta, died of a heart attack June 11, 2004 at his home.
He was born in Elgin March 14, 1932 to Harold Kelly and the former Ethel Brown. He was raised and educated in Philipsville and married Doreen Coates on August 6, 1955 in Emmanuel Church, Portland.
Mr. Kelly worked in the merchant marine and later as a transport truck driver. He retired nine years ago.
He was a member of Bethel Tabernacle in Elgin and belonged to Alcoholics Anonymous. His special interest in life was music.
He is survived by his wife, Doreen, and three of his children, Robert of Mallorytown, Beverly of Athens and Susan of Saint John, N.B., as well as five grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Gerald Kelly of Perth and Russell Kelly of Portland, and six nieces/nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, son Maxwell and sister Jean.
The funeral was held June 11 at the Scotland Funeral Home, Elgin, with Pastor Bob Crump of Bethel Tabernacle officiating. Burial followed at Halladay Cemetery, Elgin.
The pallbearers were Bill Carter, Bob Dunlop, Dwayne Rennie, Bob Thorton, Fred Warner and Ted Young.

Douglas Fader, 75
IROQUOIS -- Douglas Paul Fader, 75, a retired truck driver, died suddenly July 22, 2004 at his home in Iroquois.
He was born July 25, 1928 in Brinston to Charles Fader and the former Ella Coons. He married Beverley Montgomery on June 27, 1953 at her home in Hulbert.
Mr. Fader lived all his life in the area and was a truck driver for the farm co-operative in Brinston. In his younger days he enjoyed playing ball and always enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching sports. He identified with Iroquois United Church.
He is survived by his wife, Beverley Fader, sister Betty Bryan and husband Don of Brockville and brothers-in-law Carl Montgomery and wife Marie of Prescott and Dale Montgomery of Ottawa, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Fader, and a brother, Junior Fader.

Ian 'Pat' Paterson, 70
Ian Ernest "Pat" Paterson, 70, of RR 2, Mallorytown, died of liver cancer June 29, 2004 at Brockville General Hospital. His illness had been diagnosed on April 20.
He was born June 18, 1934 in Kingston to Henry Herbert Paterson and the former Annie Constance Tipping. After his father's death when he was five years old, he and his mother and sister moved to Gananoque. He attended Linklater Public School.
He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1953 and served until 1958.
On June 30, 1962 he married Doreen Esther Davis in Kingston and they had two children.
He was a sailor and later a firefighter with the Department of National Defence, based at CFB Kingston. He retired in 1990.
In February 1993 he moved from Kingston to the Mallorytown area.
He enjoyed his family, camping, travelling and fishing.
He took numerous cruises, the last one, in January, a cruise to Antarctica around Cape Horn, a sailor's dream.
He loved going fishing each morning on the St. Lawrence and was a member of the 1000 Islands Muskies Club.
He was also a member of the HMCS Cataraqui Association and identified with the Anglican Church.
Mr. Paterson is survived by his wife Doreen of RR 3, Mallorytown, and his two daughters, Vicki Jeffery and husband Lawrence of Mississauga and Lynn Paul and husband Geoff of Brockville, as well as grandchildren Shawn, Christopher and Derek.
Also surviving are his sister Merle O'Neill and husband Tom of Mississauga and four nieces/nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, where on July 2 the funeral was held, with Rev. Gordon Mintz, of St Paul's Anglican Church, Brockville, officiating. Cremation was arranged and burial will be at a later date.

Joan Cummings (nee Trickey), 70
ATHENS -- Joan Marie Cummings (nee Trickey), 70, of Interlachen, Florida, formerly of Williamsburg, Ont., died July 24, 2004 at North Florida Regional Medical Centre in Gainsville, Florida, after a brief illness.
She was born March 12, 1934 in Williamsburg, the daughter of Ernest Trickey and the former Florence Merkley. She was raised in Williamsburg, attending the local public school and graduating from secondary school in Morrisburg.
She moved to the United States and resided in numerous towns in the states of New York and Pennsylvania before retiring from her position as a court recorder in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania and relocating with her spouse to Interlachen, Florida in 1996. She was very active in the church, no matter where she lived and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with both family and friends.
Mrs. Cummings is survived by four daughters and a son: Adele Resmer and husband Larry Stiles and Helen and Don O'Rear, all of Gilbert, Arizona; Ruth Peterson and husband William of Winter Park, Florida; Philip Resmer and Jo Anne of Orlando, Florida; Andreia Gruber and husband Chip of Newark, Delaware.
Also surviving are grandchildren Nichole, Philip, Kevon, Carson and Logan; nephew Ernie Ferguson and wife Mary of Athens; niece Ann Garlough and husband Russell of Williamsburg; and sister-in-law Marjorie Trickey of Williamsburg.
She was predeceased by both parents, her husband Earl Cummings, infant son and daughter Jeffery and Jennifer, brother Arden Trickey (who lived in Williamsburg), sister Eileen Ferguson and husband Glenn (Athens) and nephew William Trickey (Williamsburg).
A memorial service was held July 28 at the First United Methodist Church, Interlachen, Florida, with Rev. A. C. Meyers officiating. Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home and Crematory of Interlachen were in charge of the arrangements.
Memorial donations were directed to the American/Canadian Cancer Society.
David MacDonald, 41
David Todd MacDonald, 41, died July 18, 2004 at Kingston General Hospital two days after having a stroke.
He was born November 17, 1962 in Brockville General Hospital to Wallace MacDonald and the former Marie Collar. He was educated at Brockville's Westminster Public School and Thousand Islands Secondary School.
On July 22, 1988 he married Debbie Hazelaar in a private ceremony conducted by a justice of the peace.
He started working as a dish washer at the Brockville Restaurant but soon became head cook. He also tried his hand at mechanics, working in his brothers' garage. He worked for a short time at Selkirk Metalbestos but at the time of his death he owned and operated a taxi with the Executive Taxi company.
He enjoyed motorcycle riding, stock car races and golf.
Mr. MacDonald is survived by his wife Debbie, son Andrew and daughter Christine, all of Brockville.
Also surviving are four brothers, Ted Collar and wife Mary of Frankford, Wayne MacDonald and wife Diane and Art MacDonald and wife Brenda, all of Brockville, and Robert MacDonald and partner Jim of Winnipeg, and two sisters, Gayle Bouvier and husband Don of Sioux Narrows, Ont., west of Thunder Bay, and Mary Chant and husband Frank of Belleville.
Also surviving are brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and his parents-in-law Tammo and Audrey Hazelaar.
He was predeceased by his parents and a nephew Greg MacDonald.
Cremation was arranged and burial was at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland, on July 22, after which friends and family gathered at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, Brockville, for a memorial service.
Memorial donations were directed to his children's education fund.
George Knowlton, 80
CALGARY -- George Albert Knowlton, 80, formerly of Brockville, died July 11, 2004 at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.
He was born In Foster, Quebec, on September 12, 1923, the son of Walter Knowlton and the former Edith Pibus.
Starting out, he owned a farm in the Eastern Townships of Quebec with his parents. He married Donna Gibbs on February 6, 1951, in St. James Anglican Church, Foster, Que., and together they raised their five children on the farm, remaining there until 1977, when they moved to Knowlton, Que.
In addition to operating the farm, he worked at Clairol in Knowlton from 1966 to 1977, in a number of capacities. He enjoyed the work but it was the people he most appreciated. He had a smile and a pleasant word for everyone and was known for his jokes and wry wit.
He also was active in St. James Church in Foster, Que. for many years.
In 1977 he and his wife moved to Brockville with their youngest daughters, Barbara and Georgia. Here he worked at Somerville-Belkin from 1977 to 1984.
Following his retirement in 1984, the couple travelled and lived life at a leisurely pace. Always up for adventure, however, they moved to Calgary to live with their oldest daughter, Nancy, and her husband David, in August 2003. He was enjoying his new city and the western life.
Through the years he had several heart attacks, several strokes and a quadruple bypass, but he was the proverbial "comeback kid," managing to overcome each setback, even when the doctors held out little hope. Always the optimist, at the time of his death he was in the midst of therapy to improve his strength in anticipation of travel to Switzerland in the fall.
He is survived by his wife Donna of Calgary, son Albert and wife Carol of Cowansville, Quebec, and four daughters, Nancy Knowlton and husband David Martin, Brenda Petrowitz of Ucluelet, B.C., Barbara Doxtater and husband Dan of Elliott Lake, Ont., and Georgia Myers and husband Peter of Athens, Ont.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Anne-Marie, Sarah, Melissa, Ian, Anton, Nathan, Jeff, Amber, Alex and Eric, and three great-grandchildren, Rory, Michael and Ayden.
