CRIBBIE, Kenneth Blake

Peacefully at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa on Friday, January 16th in his 60th year.

Ken, beloved husband of the late Gail Cribbie (d. 2003). Loved father of Jeff Cribbie. Also lovingly remembered by his special friend Janet Charette as well as Margaret MacInally, Doug & Dan MacInally and all his nieces, nephews and friends.

Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 from 6-8. A celebration of Ken’s life will be help at 8 p.m. Memorial donations in memory of Ken to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.

DALY, John Kenneth (Ken)

Passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Friday, January 16th, 2009 in his 80th year, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Beloved husband of 53 years to Joyce. Loving father of Cherie Daly (Aubrey Basdeo) of Toronto and Scott Daly of Oshawa. He will be fondly remembered by his three grandsons Kyle, Dylan and Justin Basdeo. Dear brother of Ross (Mary) Daly of Watford, Elaine (George) Kramer and Jean (Thomas) Schmalz of Kitchener, brother-in-law of Maxine (Paul) Kastner of Wiarton and Shirley Witt of Waterloo. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. Predeceased by his parents Leo and Florence (nee Roth) Daly. He was an honourary life member of Kitchener Knights of Columbus, council 1504 (3rd degree) for 57 years, Honourary Kinsmen, Past President of Oshawa Kinsmen K-40 Club and volunteer of St. Vincent’s Kitchen.

Visitation will be held at ST. GERTRUDE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 690 King St. East, Oshawa on Thursday, January 22nd from 10:00 A.M. until time of Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon. Cremation. Funeral arrangements entrusted to OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King St. West, 905-721-1234. As expressions of sympathy donations to St. Gertrude’s Building Fund or Durham Region Cancer Centre would be appreciated.

SCOTT, Ray Harley

Peacefully after a brief illness at Lakeridge Health, Bowmanville on Friday, January 16th, 2009 in his 77th year.

Beloved husband of Doreen (nee Mackie) of 56 years. Dear dad of David and his wife Angčle, Robert and his wife Kellie, and Wayne. Loving grandpa of Grant Kelly, and Kirsten and Emma Scott. Ray is survived by his sisters- in- law Dorothy Scott and Ethel and her husband Robert McConkey of Wasaga Beach. He is predeceased by his parents Ann and Clayton Scott, brother Jack, sister Hazel and her husband George Tree. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews and his extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Moolla and the nursing staff of 2E Medical at Lakeridge Health, Bowmanville for all of the exceptional care and compassion they showed to him.

Respecting Ray’s wishes, a private family service will be held. Cremation. Memorial donations to Community Care Newcastle or Memorial Hospital Foundation, Bowmanville (Medical) would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 905-987-3964, with whom arrangements have been entrusted.

ANTHONY, Yvette Blanche

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health, Bowmanville, on Thursday, January 15, 2009, in her 76th year.

Beloved wife of the late Howard Anthony. Loving mother of Ray (Doreen), Richard, Carol (Glen) and Karen (Wally). Lovingly remembered by grandchildren Ray, Shelly (Jay), Darryl (Krystal), David, Richard, Jeffery, Ashley, Scott, Cindy and Zack, and by great-grandchildren Conner, Taylor, Kyle, Hailey, Brittany, Dylon, Deziray, Egen, Jay, Hunter and Mackenzie. A special thank you from the family to Suzanne LeBlanc for her comfort and constant support to Yvette.

BANKS, Marjorie

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on January 15th 2009 in her 95th year. Long time volunteer at R. A. Hutchison Elementary School, Whitby.

Passionately knitted teddy bears for the Children of Tragedy charity. Predeceased by her husband Clarence. Beloved mother of Phyllis Dupuis (Alain), Bonnie Vanclief (Bill), Marion Curry, Ada Gibson (Cecil), Janet Hoteling (Charles), Fred Banks, Allan Banks (Margaret), Lloyd Banks (Dorothy), Eddie Banks (Theresa). She will be fondly remembered by her twenty-six grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Loving sister of Bill Brinkman (Dorothy), Bob Brinkman (Mary), Sid Brinkman (Wendy), the Late Cyril Brinkman and the late Albert (Ab) Brinkman.

Marjorie will be resting at the W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby (905) 668-3410, with visitation on Friday, January 16th from 7-9pm and Saturday, January 17th from 2-3pm and a service will held in the chapel on Saturday at 3pm. Interment to follow at GROVESIDE CEMETERY. Charitable donation in Marjorie’s memory can be made to the Salvation Army and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

GIBSON, Muriel

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Rouge Valley Health System - Ajax. Beloved wife of Reuben for 54 years. Loving mother of Deborah (Greg Pettit), Gail (Sheldon Sumners), Rob (Donna), Sandra (Derrick Curtin) and Paul (Trish). Cherished grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of three. Muriel will also be sadly missed by extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Rouge Valley Health System, Ajax or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

Cherished grandmother of Justin, Jason, Jacob, Kyle, Scott, Brett, Payton, Jannette, Skylar and William. Dear sister of John and Gloria Walton, Judy Ellis, Sandra and Anthony Vanboxtel, Patricia and Ronald Goodchild, Russell and Lynn Mayotte, Rosemary and Denis Henry and the late Lillian Killian.

Suddenly at his home in Woodville Ontario on Thursday, January 15, 2009. Cater in his 65th year.

Dearly beloved husband of Heather (nee McNaughton) for 35 years. Devoted father of Allyson Fields and husband Andrew, Joel and wife Darlene Hooper, Jennifer Toutant and husband Joshua. Cherished and doting Grandfather of Rachel, Zachary, and Benjamin Fields, Tyler and Noah Hooper, Rebecca and Travis Toutant. Dear brother of Jack and wife Joan Hooper and Margaret Burnfield.

MELANSON, George Arthur

Passed away peacefully at home on January, 15th, 2009 in his 57th year.

George had recently retired from General Motors after 25 years of service. He will be dearly missed by many family members and friends from Ontario as well as Nova Scotia. Those who knew George will remember him for his sense of humour and the ability to light up a room. As per his wishes, cremation will take place and his ashes will be taken to Nova Scotia where “home” was.

PROKOPIEC, Walter (Wally)
(30 year employee of Rouge Valley Centenary)

Wally passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2009 at the age of 60, following a lengthy and courageous battle against cancer.

Sadly missed by his precious, loving wife Linda and his beloved step-children Matthew, Andrew and Lauren Gouldburn. Cherished brother of Stella and Alan Blackie, Rose and John Chioini and Mary Hamelin and their families. Predeceased by his brother Eugene. Predeceased by his parents Genowefa and Jan Prokopiec. Dear son-in-law of Gordon and Joan Rouse.

Family and Friends may gather at MEMORIAL CHAPEL BROOKLIN, 5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service in the chapel Monday morning (January 19th) at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Thornton Cemetery, Oshawa.
