BEENEN, Aaltje

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa on Saturday, January 17th, 2009 in her 81st year.

The Lord took unto himself our beloved wife, mother and grandmother. We know she is saved and free of sorrow and pain. We will miss her and hope to see her again. Beloved wife of the late Gerrit Jan for 55 years. Dear mother of John and his wife Reta, Janet and her husband Ron Ashby, Irene and her husband Clarence VanderLaan, Linda and her husband Ron Touw, Wilma and her husband John Barink, Raymond and his wife Margaret, Marianne and her husband Michael Kassay and the late Harvey. Mother in law to Jackie and her husband Stuart Bootsma. Sister of Femmie, Nies, Willem, Ge, Harm, Hillie, and the late Hennie, Arend and Albert. Sister in law of Egbert, Diny, Jan and the late Zwaantje and Gerrit. She will be truly missed by her 36 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa. Funeral service at ZION CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 409 Adelaide Avenue East, Oshawa on Wednesday, January 21st at 11 am. Interment Thornton Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Immanuel Christian School would be greatly appreciated by the family. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.

ESPOSITO, Anthony "Tony"

In his 90th year. Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Saturday, January 17th, 2009.

Known to his family as “Poppy”, his love, wisdom, generosity and infectious laugh will always be cherished and remembered. Predeceased by his wife Mary (nee Clemens) and daughter Toni-Marie Tullock. He is survived by his eldest daughter Nancy Baronski and by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dear brother of Rocco Esposito & his wife June.

At Tony’s request a Private Family Service will be held. In Tony’s memory, Memorial Donations may be made to a Charity of your Choice. Arrangements entrusted to THE NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. N. Bowmanville.

GARNETT, Edward “Ted”
(Veteran of the Royal British Army Corp.; 1st Airborne; Retired employee of General Electric Canada.)

Peacefully at the Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Saturday, January 17th, 2009, in his 90th year.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Wynne. Loving father of Alan (Laurel), Pam, and Elwyn. Cherished granddad of George, Tracey, Michael, and Brett; Amy Jamieson (Jim), Adam, Andrew, Erin Martin (Eryn), Ian (Kelly), and great-granddad to eleven great-grandchildren. Loved also by Mair. Predeceased by brother Tom and his sister Marjorie.

Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905-721-1234), for visitation on Wednesday, January 21st from 12:00 Noon until time of Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1:00 P.M. Cremation. Donations made to the Lakeridge Health Oshawa Cancer Centre would be appreciated.

McCABE, Marie Hughes (nee MacVicar)

With heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Marie after a brief illness at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday, January 17th in her 70th year.

Beloved wife of Frederick. Loving mum of Carolann (Stephen) and Steven (Tammy). Devoted granny to Alexander, Kevin, Gabrielle, and her four-legged one, Tiko. Predeceased by her son Graeme, mother and father Alice and James, brothers Jim and Harry, sisters Amy and Mary. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Beannie and Flora, her life long best friend and cousin Mary, and her niece Fiona, all of Dundee, Scotland. Fondly remember by all her nieces and nephews in Scotland and Canada. Marie was an avid gardener, reader and cook. She touched many lives with her easy going personality and great sense of humour. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

A service was held at W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL. Cremation has taken place. Charitable donations made in Marie's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society will be greatly appreciated by her family.

McLEAN, Barbara (nee Greenhill)

Peacefully at the Lakeridge Health Corporation in Oshawa on January 17, 2009, in her 81st year.

Beloved wife of the late Donald Eaton McLean (2004). Loved mother of Diane Pleavin (Scott) of Bolton and David McLean (Tammie) of Zionsville, Indiana. Adored Granny of Victoria, Scott, Zachary and Mackenzie. Sister-in-law and friend of Elizabeth Haddow of Etobicoke. Longtime summer resident of Lake of Bays. Lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority (Laureate Beta Psi Chapter). Member of Oshawa Blind Curlers.

Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa (905-433-4711), with funeral service in Kingsview United Church, 505 Adelaide Avenue East, Oshawa, on Friday, January 23rd at 2 p.m.. Interment Thornton Cemetery. Visitation on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. Donations in memory of Barbara to the Breast Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

MORTON, Phyllis Pearl (Guerin) (nee Williamson)
(former member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Ida; former employee of O.M.C.; former member of Bethany Seniors Group)

Passed away on January 17, 2009, peacefully surrounded by her family at Centennial Place in Millbrook, in her 89th year.

Phyllis, wife of the late Earl Morton (1987) and the late Arnold Guerin (1965). Dear mother of Marlene and her husband Doug Cumming of Peterborough, Gail and her husband Dave Spence of Bowmanville, and Len Guerin and his wife Kate of Peterborough. Sadly missed by grandchildren Terry, Allan, Scott, Kelli, Nadine, Chris, Tanya, Adam, Kyle, and Matt, and many great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her siblings, Carl and his wife Ruth Williamson of Peterborough, Russ and his wife Greta Williamson of Lindsay, and Florence and her husband Bill Stevens of Peterborough.

A funeral service will be held at ST. GEORGE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH (Braidwood and Roger Neilson Way) on Thursday, January 22, at 1:00 p.m., with visiting in the church for one hour prior to the service.

Interment Rosemount Memorial Gardens.

MUIR, William "Bill"

Passed away surrounded by his family at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Saturday, January 17, 2009 in his 85th year.

Bill, loving husband of Evelyn. Loved father of Gary, Steven, Debbie, Darlene Muir and their families. Dear step father of Lynn Brown, Christine Reid, David Banks, Angie Banks and Gina Petsinis. Bill will be sadly missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At the families request there will be no funeral service. Cremation to take place at Bowmanville Crematorium. Donations made in Bill’s memory to the Durham Regional Cancer Centre would be gratefully appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the MORRIS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4 Division Street, Bowmanville.

WILLIAMS, Bassett Christopher

Suddenly at Humber River Regional Hospital on Saturday, January 17, 2009. Bassett, in his 66th year.

Beloved husband of Genevieve (née Lovelock). Loving father of Craig Williams and wife Daniela of Alliston, Carla Williams of Toronto and Courtney Williams of Oshawa and grandfather of Matteo Williams. Brother of Mike and wife Dorothy, Muriel Tracey and husband Bob, Hector and wife Ina, Audrey, Daphne and her twin brother Patrick and wife Amy, George and wife Lyneth, Sheila Moncrieffe, Lance and wife Velma, and Mary.

Relatives and friends will be received at McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Service will be held at Hillsdale Wesleyan Methodist Church, 301 Rossland Rd. E. (at Ritson Rd. N.), Oshawa on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 11 a.m. Interment Thornton Cemetery. Donations in memory of Bassett to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.

BASTEDO, Edgar Frank (Ted)

Peacefully at the Lakeridge Health, Oshawa on Friday, January 16, 2009 in his 92nd year.

Beloved husband of Martha (Patty), Loving father of daughters Anne Bastedo (Rick Lane), Jane Weston (Caspar) and Grandchildren Lucy and Rory and son John (Lynn) and Grandchildren Kati, Peter and Laura. Pre-deceased by Wife Patricia (Sylvester), sisters Dorothy Cavers, Jean-Anne Bastedo and Brother Don Bastedo. Fondly remembered by Patty’s Children Joanne, Susan, George, Perrin, Stephen, and families.

Special thanks to the Doctors and Nursing staff of the critical care unit at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, September 12, 1917, served with the Manitoba Dragoons in WW2 as a lieutenant Colonel. Following the War, resumed practicing Law in Oshawa until Retirement. Served as Commander of 11 Armored (Ontario) Regiment with rank of lieutenant-colonel 1948-1951. Served as executive member of several community services and organizations, including Ontario Law Association, Oshawa Hospital Board and Foundation, Rotary Club, Red Cross, VON, Oshawa Chamber of Commerce Oshawa Golf Club and Oshawa City Council and was a generous supporter of the Oshawa arts community.

Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 23, 2009, at 1 p.m. in Northminster United Church, reception to follow at the Armories Officers Mess. Donations in memory of Ted can be made in lieu of flowers to North Minister United Church, Oshawa Hospital Foundation or the Robert McLaughlin Art Gallery. Donations may be through the Armstrong Funeral Home.
