DE LAZZARI, Maria Luigina - At St. Michael's Hospital on Thursday, January 4, 2001, in her 72nd year. After a courageous fight with complications following her heart surgery, her heart stopped. Lovingly known as Maria, Gina or Bella-Bella to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband Santo, her children Josephine (Josie), Anthony and his wife Karen, and Lorenza (Lori) and her grandchildren Emma and Jake. Loving sister of Sarafina(Giovanni) Robazza and special aunt to Gino (Diane) Romeo. She will also be greatly missed by her brother and sister-in-law, Lino and Vittoria De Lazzari, who took special care of her while she was in the hospital in Toronto. Predeceased by her sister Lina Decaria (1982), brother Alfredo Romeo (1995) and sister Mimma Romeo (1999). She leaves behind many other in-laws and countless nieces and nephews who loved her very much. Gina was born in S. Stefano D'Aspromonte, Italy on June 15, 1928 and was the first of her family to come to Canada in 1952 where she met and married her husband in 1953. She worked at various factory jobs until her children came along at which time, with her sister Mimma, they worked together as dressmakers in their own home. When they both opened their own shops, Maria continued to serve her clients from her home location on Bridge St. known as Maria's Dressmaking. An excellent cook, Maria's first love was cooking, and anyone who came to her house did not get to leave until she fed you. Her generosity and love is something that will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. Friends are invited to call at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Visiting Sunday and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Scapular Church. Interment will follow at Fairview cemetery. The Vigil for Mrs. De Lazzari will be celebrated Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In memory of Mrs. De Lazzari donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by her family.

HARPER, Vernon Walter - At Hotel Dieu Hospital, on Monday, January 1, 2001, Vernon Harper, late of St. Catharines, in his 80th year. Beloved husband of Ivy for 60 years. Dear father of Joan and Jack Parnall, Barbara and Bob Cornelsen, and Bob and Kathy Harper. Dear brother of Harold and Bonnie Harper, and Bob Harper, all of Edmonton. Also survived by six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as nine half-brothers and sisters.Predeceased by brothers and sisters Cleve, Mae, Grover, Dorothy and Fred. Mr. Harper was a 47 year employee of E.T.F. Tools, retiring in 1985 as Shipper Receiver. Mr. Harper served overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII, stationed in England. At Mr. Harper's request, there was no visitation. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Niagara Peninsula Children's Centre or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. SINCLAIR, Emma R. (nee Anderluk) - Mrs. Sinclair (Emma) will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Alex and daughter Catharine and her three grandchildren Heather, James and Clark. Mom could fit in with any crowd young or old. She was a unique individual that we will always hold dear. Her absence will leave a deep void in all of those who knew her. She enjoyed her arts and crafts, the souvenirs from her many trips and her stamp collecting that kept her occupied for over 50 years. Thanks to her many friends and a special thanks to Phyllis Mitchell. Cremation will take place. TONER, Flora - On Thursday, January 4, 2001 at Hotel Dieu Hospital, St. Catharines, Flora Toner, daughter of the late George and Annie Gibb Hay. Flora was born in 1904 in Aberdeen, Scotland, and came to Canada when she was five. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth, and brothers, George and John Hay. She was married to her husband, Edward (1974), for 48 years. She made Upper Canada Lodge in Niagara-on-the-Lake her home for the last nine and a half years. Flora's life revolved around her family. She leaves to grieve her passing, her daughter: Anne (Willard David) Freel; Alice (late James) Steele, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Catherine (late Ervin) Gretzinger, St. Catharines. Beloved grandmother to Sandra (George) Spiller, Rome, Ga; Sharon Gretzinger, St. Catharines and Richard Gretzinger, Brampton. She and her great granddaughter, her Bonnie Wee Girl, Michelle Alexandra Spiller, Rome, Ga., shared a very special friend, Jenny Howes of Orangeville. Flora attended St. Vincent de Paul Church and was a member of the Catholic Women's League for 58 years. She was a tireless worker, she bowled with the Church Bowling League and she loved to visit Florida. For many summers, she worked at the Trading Post at Fort George where she made many friends. The family will receive friends at the NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE CHAPEL, of the MORGAN FUNERAL HOMES, 415 Regent Street, on Monday, January 8th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Vigil for Flora will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday evening at 8 o'clock. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 73 Picton Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake on Tuesday, January 9th at 11 o'clock a.m. Rite of Committal will follow at the church cemetery. TOROK, Marjorie (Butler) - Peacefully at the Welland County General Hospital on Friday, January 5, 2001 in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Private Leslie J. Butler (Dieppe Raid - World War II) and the late Joseph Torok (1963). Loving mother of Marilyn Roy of Port Colborne, Janice West and her husband Rick of Fonthill, Eric Butler and his wife Mary Ann, Joan Mahaffey and Gerry Guitar, Joe Torok and Louise Eagle, all of Port Colborne; John Torok and his wife Jane of Brantford, Valerie Turton and her husband Paul of Wainfleet. Marjorie will be sadly missed by her 29 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and by all her family and friends. She was predeceased by her three sons Donald "Tubby" Torok (1995), Douglas Butler (1999), Fred Butler (2000), by her daughter-in-law Helen Butler (1996), by her son-in-law Archie Roy (1996) and by 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Marjorie was born in St. Catharines and had lived in Port Colborne since 1936. She was active on the resident's council at Northland Manor in Port Colborne. Marjorie was an avid card player and at one time belonged to several card leagues in Port Colborne. Marjorie's family will receive vistors at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 179 Clarence Steet, Port Colborne on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in the Armstrong Chapel on Monday, January 8, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. ZIELINSKI, Chester John - On Friday, January 5, 2001, at his residence, Chester Zielinski, 76 years of age. Beloved husband of Weronicka Zielinski. Dear brother of Leokadia Zielinski of St. Catharines, and Helena Jankowska of Poland; uncle of Slawomir and wife Ryszarda Jankowski; great uncle to Diana, Andrew and Ashley. Also survived by his sister-in-law in Poland and many family in Poland and the United States. Cousin to Father Cashmere Zielinski, brother-in-law of Joseph and wife Janina Dabrowski of Niagara Falls, N.Y. Mr. Zielinski served in WWII. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, the (SPK) Polish Combatants Association and worked for 27 years at General Motors until retiring in 1984. Mr. Zielinski is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., until Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 10 a.m. Rite of Committal in Victoria Lawn cemetery Mausoleum.
