BURTON, Ernest J. at the I.O.O.F. Home, Barrie , on Tuesday, January 1st, 2002 . Ernest James Burton, born May 6th, 1910 , in Verdun , Quebec , and was educated at Normal Model School , Toronto . He played the carillon at Metropolitan Church in Toronto , and was an accomplished cellist. He came to Barrie , Ontario , in 1938 as an agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., with his wife Evelyn. They have 3 children; Donald, Elaine, and David. Ernest enjoyed being Town Clerk of Barrie, owned and operated a bowling alley, Secretary/Treasurer of the Barrie High School Board, and a sitting Justice of the Peace in the new Court House. He was a member of Central United Church and served on the advisory board. He was a Life Member of the Masonic order having first joined Northgate Lodge #951 in 1932 in Toronto . He affiliated with Kempenfelt Lodge #481 in Barrie , and served as the Master in 1936. He affiliated and is a Life Member of Corinthian Lodge #96 in Barrie . Ernest is also a member of Signet Chapter #34 R.A.M. along with Scottish Rite of the Barrie Valley .
