Gregory, Herbert Thorp, born in Leamington on March 5, 1910, passed away, Tuesday, June 10, 2003 following injuries sustained after a motor vehicle accident. Herbert was the son of Francis Roger Gregory and Grace Higgs. Beloved husband of the late Helen E. (nee Ewald) (1965) and Marion F. (nee Sharp). Predeceased by sister, Jane Olmsted (1999). Loving father of Herbert Thorp Gregory Jr. and wife Patricia Anne of Oxford, North Carolina and the late Francis Roger Gregory (1993) and the late Anne Elizabeth Gregory (2002). Loving grandfather of Mark Gregory, Martha and husband Jim Wrenn, Lizzie Gregory, all of Oxford, North Carolina. Dear step father of Graydon Dyck, Winnipeg ; Dennis Dyck and Christine Wynveen, of Toronto. Herbert operated Gregory Farms until his death. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was an avid golfer and sportsman. He was also a member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Leamington and a charter member of Erie Shores Golf and Country Club. Graham, Tom Suddenly at his home on Friday, September 26th, 2003. Tom Graham of Owen Sound in his 82nd year. Predeceased by his wife Marie. Beloved father of Martha and her husband Michael Tettenborn of Owen Sound and Peter Graham of Stratford. Much loved Grandpa of Alex and Garnet Tettenborn. Also survived by one sister Ellie and her husband Jack Almey of Clinton and sister-in-law Doris Graham of Sarnia. Predeceased by one brother John. At the age of 2 Tom emigrated to Canada from England in 1924. In 1942 he enlisted in the R.C.A.F. and retired as a Warrant Officer 2nd Class in 1972. Tom moved to Owen Sound in 1980 where he dedicated much of his time to his church. He was also a yearly volunteer at Camp Quality, and was a driver for Meals on Wheels. He loved to help others and will be missed by all that knew him. Friends are invited to the Tannahill Funeral Home, 376-3710 for visiting on Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at Community of Christ Church, 2555, 8th Avenue West, Owen Sound on Tuesday, September 30th at 11:00 a.m. with John W. Goodburn, William John “Bill” - Peacefully at 81 years of age on Tuesday April 22, 2003. Late of Essex. Beloved husband for 57 years to Betty. Son of the late Edgar and Daisy Goodburn. Loving father of Dennis and Deb, Hamilton; Dianne Langan and husband Pat, Chatham; Debra Scratch and Andre Quenneville, Essex and Darryl of Brantford. Cherished grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Bill will be remembered by his sister Frances McNaughton of Essex, and his sister in law Beverly Goodburn of North Ridge. Predeceased by his brother John (July, 1998). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bill was a WWII Naval Veteran, member of the Essex Legion Branch 201, and the Essex United Church. GLADDY, Dr. Percy Vaughan, B.Sc., M.D., F.R.C.S.(C)
On September 16, 2003, in his home on the shores of Lake Huron with his family, Percy died, at the age of 76, after a life filled with integrity, hard work, dedication and achievement. He leaves his dear wife, Alexia, and beloved children, Geoffrey, Sarah (Jonathan), Jennifer and Rebecca, and cherished grandsons, Alexander and Daniel. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Nellie, and brother, Leo. Born and raised in Sarnia, Ontario, Percy was a graduate of Queen’s University (Meds ‘50), with postgraduate training in Canada and the U.S. in Obstetrics & Gynecology. A lifelong student of medicine, Percy practiced medicine for over 45 years in Sarnia where he served his community and positively touched the lives of many mothers and their families. He was instrumental in setting up the first Emergency Physicians’ Service at St. Joseph’s Hospital which provided 24-hour emergency care for the residents of Sarnia-Lambton. He also set up the first mother-baby wellness clinic in Walpole Island to provide pre- and post-natal care. For service to the First Nation community, he was given the honorary name Mshkikiiwnini (Indian Doctor). A skilled physician, he will be remembered for his strong moral code, humour, warmth, availability and concern for others. In his career and personal life, Percy was guided by his Christian faith, especially during the last difficult days of his illness and he remained true to himself -- determined, strong and willing to do the work to survive. He had great love for his family and was the proud father of four Queen’s graduates. His example and principles will remain to inspire his children and all who knew him. He received excellent medical care and his family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. D. Payne, Dr. F. Shepherd, Dr. G. Darling, Dr. D. Brown and Jennifer Hornby, Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, and to Dr. V. Balachandra and Dr. R. Garrett, Sarnia. Percy’s family is grateful for the support and care extended to them by their many relatives, friends, and especially Helen Paradis. Cremation has taken place with arrangements entrusted to the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (519-344-3131). A memorial service to celebrate Percy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2003, at Grace United Church, 990 Cathcart Blvd., Sarnia. Harold, loving husband of Doris (Jones) of 63 years, was in his 87th year (October 19, 1916). Proud, devoted and loved father of Janice Carraro of Guelph, Jim French of Nanticoke, Stephanie French-Mediatti and her husband Ross of Quebec. Predeceased by a son Thomas French. Cherished grandfather of Justin and Jason Carraro, Daryl French, Gloria-Jane Barrette and Darcey French. Dear brother of Norma Bell and her husband Mike of Minnesota. Predeceased by sisters, Thelma Dunn, Shirley Maas and Helen Simpson. Harold will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews. Harold served in the Royal Canadian Navy in Halifax, Atlantic, Bay of Biscay and English Channel. He is a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Port Dover, Branch # 158, for the last six years he has held the position of Service Officer, he has also served as President for four years, First Vice for two years, Second Vice for one year and proud recipient of the Queens Jubilee Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and also had the honour of receiving the highest award of the R.C.L. Palm Leaf to Meritorious Service Medal. Harold was also a member of the Erie Lodge # 149 AF and AM, Norfolk Shrine, Mocha Temple, Murton Lodge, Hamilton Sovereign Chapter of Rose Croix, Moore Sovereign Consistory 32nd and an Honourary Life Member of Selkirk Kinsmen. Harold was very well known and respected for all his dedicated and unselfish service.
