Suddenly and unexpectedly at home, age 82, on Tuesday, 25 March 2003, Alice Vollmer of Ottawa and Deep River. Beloved wife of Harold. Loving mother of Brian (Hanna), Robin (Cathy), Chris (Joanne). Cherished grandma of Mark, Luc, Matt, and Agata. Alice was active and independent to the very end. She taught us all so much about kindness, compassion, generosity, and tolerance. CYRIL (CY) ARNIL CRAWFORD
February 17, 1920 - June 5, 2003
Cy passed away at the Victoria Hospital on Thursday, June 5, 2003 with his
family at his side. He leaves Lucy, his wife of 54 years, their children Susan (James Young), Alice (Michael Franzmann) and Stephen together with grandchildren Janet, Nancy and Andrew Young and Erica and Neale Franzmann.
Cy was born and raised in Edmonton. He served with the R.C.A.F. in WWII, on Flying Boats in Britain and Madagascar. Upon his return to civilian life he graduated with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. His working life was with Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. in Chalk River, ON and Whiteshell, MB. He worked for Consulting Engineering firms in Winnipeg and then started his own business, Manitou Manufacturing Co. Ltd. which he sold when he retired in 1989. He was an innovative design engineer with tremendous enthusiasm. Whatever was mechanical he understood it, including the working of his own heart, which he considered an intricate pump. Since retirement his health deteriorated but he and Lucy travelled some and enjoyed life in their penthouse condo. The family invite friends and colleagues to share stories of "The Legendary Cy Crawford" at a gathering at 1:00pm Thursday, June 12 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
