Dr. Jean G. Chagnon BA DC
After a valiant 7 month battle against a malignant brain tumor, Jean left us for his ultimate voyage, bidding adieu to his family: his soul mate/friend/wife of 36 years, Denise (Saulnier), his son, Dr. Benoît Chagnon; his daughter-in-law, Dr. Carri Drzyzga. His early departure from a full life has left a great void in the lives of many: his sister Lise (Leonard Houghton) St-Sauveur QC; their sons Gary ( Suzanne Gauthier), grand-nieces Vanessa and Audrey, St-Hubert QC; Brian (Claude Grenier) Montreal QC, Peter (Elise Beauchesne), grand nephews James and Todd, Kirkland QC. His in-laws, the Saulnier Family: Jean-Claude (Helene Lauzon) Mascouche QC, Diane ( Jocelyn Lapierre) Aylmer QC, Jean-Paul ( Linda Levac) Repentigny QC, Jean-Guy ( Johanne Joly ) Old Montreal QC, pre-deceased Jean-Yves (Ginette Gentilcore) Repentigny QC. Nephews and nieces: Chantal, Michel, Gabrielle, Jean-Marc, Amélie, Marie-Claude, Melissa, Jasmine, Evelyne, Viviane and Laurent. Also part of the family, grand-dogs, Bailey and Sadie. Also deeply touched with the loss, long time and dearest friends Jocelyne and Fernand Larose, their daughter Catherine, Gatineau QC, very close friends Madeleine and Claude Soucy, Judy and Alain Dubuc, of Ottawa. Without their help, these difficult last months would have been unbearable. His chiropractic family also feels a deep sense of loss. He was the first chiropractor to open an office in the East-End of Ottawa over 31 years ago. Thousands have sought his care. His loyal staff, Claire Champagne (30 years), Carole Carrière and Nathalie Joly (13 years), Denyse Bergeron, (3 years), Isabelle Camiré (1 year), as well as long time associate chiropractor Dr Nicole Lalonde (20 years), will miss him greatly. A very special thank you to Dr. Pierre L’Heureux and his staff; Dr. Yves Lefebvre; the CCAC , Beauséjour Pharmacy and Pharmacie Larose for always being there in our time of need. Jean loved to bring home flowers, and did so regularly. He enjoyed a good meal along with a good bottle of wine shared with friends and family. His fondness of travel was also well known. So, we ask at this time, to not send flowers. Instead, bring some home to enjoy or send some to a loved one. Raise a glass in his memory and remember him during your next trip. You would also make him very proud if you made a donation to an organization that is dear to your heart. You can join us and share your memories of Jean at the Heritage Funeral Home, 2871 St. Joseph Blvd., Orléans, on Saturday, October 15, from 1-4 pm and 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. A service will be held at the St-Joseph Church, 2757 St. Joseph Blvd., Orléans on Monday, October 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. Condolences and donations may be made at www.heritagefh.ca. Hollins, Alexandra (Sandra) Patricia
(née Read)
Daughter of the late John W. and Patricia J. Read of Portland, Dorset, England. After a long battle with brain cancer, bravely fought, Sandra passed away at home in Ottawa on August 27, 2005, surrounded by her family. Dearly loved wife of John; loving mother of Maxwell (Isabelle Delage), Russell (Dallas Delahunt), and Fraser (Anastasia Polito); loving grandmother of Philip and Eric, and step-grandmother of Averi and Aaron. Also survived in England and sadly missed by dear sister Jacqueline Trevett and by uncle “Boy” (Herbert Gordon Francis Male); sister-in-law Elizabeth Griffiths and nieces Katharine, Hannah, and Lucy; and aunt Rita (Lees); and by many friends and cousins in Canada, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, and the United States.
Thanks for heart-warming memories of so many wonderful times spent together. Love to you all, Sandra.
The Hollins family thanks: Dr. Ahmed Sati, her family doctor; the multitude of wonderful people at the Ottawa Hospital (Civic and General Campuses, and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre), and the Elisabeth Bruyère Rehabilitation Centre; and the dedicated team of nurses and personal support workers who cared for her at home. Dr. Louise Coulombe provided loving and professional palliative care at home for 12 weeks, which was a privilege for Sandra and the family.
After a teaching career in England, Sandra emigrated to Canada with John in 1965. Sandra quickly became a fervent Canadian – even enjoying the winters! She was a political activist and served from 1985 to 1999 as Returning Officer for the provincial riding of Carleton East. She believed firmly in a bilingual country with a strong central government.
One of the passions of her life was music. Sandra sang in a variety of choirs from the age of six years. Following a year in France in 1975, she and John joined Les Chansonniers de Gloucester. She served as treasurer for five years and as librarian for 24 years. She was also a keen supporter of the Ottawa Youth Orchestra Academy, serving as treasurer for six years. An early fan of the National Arts Cenre, especially its Orchestra, she was a committed subscriber. She also supported the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, and the Ottawa Jazz Festival.
There will be no visitation, but friends and neighbours are invited to meet the family before and after a bilingual mass to celebrate Sandra’s life at 12 noon on Saturday, September 3 at l’Église St-Claude, 2599 Innes Road (at Southpark). Following the mass, there will be a lunch at the church. Family flowers only, please; donations, if you so wish, to reflect Sandra’s interests mentioned above, care of Heritage Funeral Home, 2871 St. Joseph Blvd., Orléans, ON K1C 1G8.
