Maisonneuve, Karyne

On June 12th 2006, Karyne entered the hospital for one last treatment to ensure her cancer would stay in remission. She was healthy and energetic, looking forward to a new beginning. After a difficult and painful three weeks, only a few days before coming home, she contracted acute hepatitis, an extremely rare complication of the treatment. The doctors were never able to determine the exact cause of the hepatitis. On July 12th 2006, after an excruciating week of watching her health deteriorate, Karyne passed away peacefully in her mother’s arms. She was eight years old.

Karyne’s incredible courage, loving trust, eternal smile and witty sense of humor always prevailed. She taught us to live each day to the fullest, and to laugh in the face of adversity. Her story touched hundreds of people in our community of Ottawa and elsewhere around the world. She inspired people to show compassion to others, to become better friends, or to renew their faith in God. She is now our angel.

Since being diagnosed with cancer in December 2004, Karyne participated in several fundraisers and events for CHEO and was heard on the radio and seen in the newspapers on many occasions.

Loving daughter of Mary Lou Bulger and Carl Maisonneuve, she attended l’école Le Prélude, in Orléans. Devoted sister of Élyse, Marc and Paul attending l’école secondaire Gisèle Lalonde. Precious granddaughter of Andrée and Lucien Maisonneuve of Montréal, and Agnes and the late Giles Bulger of Stittsville.

Funeral mass will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19 th, at l’Église Ste-Marie,4831 Innes Rd., Orléans, Ontario. Friends and relatives are invited for a reception from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the MIFO Centre Culturel d'Orléans, 6600 rue Carrière, Orléans, Ontario.
