Britschgi - At Chelsey Park Nursing Home, London, on Tuesday, November 5, 2002, Edna (Tuff) (Staib) Britschgi of London in her 98th year. Beloved wife of the late Percy E. Staib and the late Joseph Britschgi. Dear mother of Douglas Staib and his wife Lee and dear stepmother of Lyle Britschgi and his wife Betty all of London. Also loved by several grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her daughter Dorothy Keene, her brother George Tuff and her sister Beatrice Emerson. Friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the funeral service being conducted in the chapel of the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London on Thursday, November 7th at 11:00 A.M. Interment in Aylmer cemetery , Aylmer. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army London Red Shield, 371 King Street, London N6B 1S4 or charity of choice.

Shields - A. Robert (Bob) Peacefully, at home on Tuesday, November 5th, 2002 in his 77th year, after a battle with cancer. Devoted husband of Ruth and dear father of Marsha (Roland) Alber of Brantford, Mark (Pat) Shields of St. Thomas, Gregory of Thorold, Willa (Nick) Owens. Loving grandfather of Michael, Allan, Adam, Jaseth, Ray, Nadia & Bob, and 3 great grandsons & many nieces and nephews & honourary daughter JoAnn. Predeceased by his brothers George & Thomas. Bob served overseas in the Second World War with the Lake Superior (Motor) Regiment; Lifetime member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #24 & a member of Memorial United Church. Retired from TRW as a supervisor of the valve line. Bob spent 12 wonderful winters in Zephyrhills, Florida and will be missed by a large circle of friends & neighbours in the park. The family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of his life will be held in the chapel on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Victoria Lawn cemetery in the Veteran’s Section. If so desired, donations to Hotel Dieu Oncology or charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.

Stafford - peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, November, 05, 2002. Dillon James Stafford of St. Thomas in his 1st year. Loving son of Jason and Gail (Monteith) Stafford of St. Thomas. Dear grandson of Nancy and Hugh Monteith of Aylmer, Betty Jean and Jim Stafford of Tillsonburg and greatgrandson of Stewart and Lorna Monteith of Lambeth. Also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. Dillon was born in London, Ontario on June 12, 2002. A private family service will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Friday November 08, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Interment , Aylmer cemetery. Donations to the Make a Wish Foundation would be appreciated.

Welsh - Promoted to Glory Oct. 30, 2002, after a lengthy illness, David Cyril Douglas Welsh at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, St. John’s. He was 61 years old. Mr. Welsh was predeceased by father John Welsh, mother Cicely (Harrum) Welsh, and brother Gerald Welsh. Left to mourn are wife Clarice (Clarke) Welsh, St. Thomas, ON, daughters Stephanie, spouse of Robert Gervais of London, ON, Sherri-Lyn of St. Thomas, ON, Heather of St.Thomas, ON, Marlene and spouse Jamie Robertson of St. Thomas, ON. Also leaving to mourn sister Myra spouse of the late Fred Croucher, and Jeanette spouse of Max Walker and brothers; Marshall (Jean) Walsh, John (Jonnie) Welsh and 1 grandchild Olivia Robertson, several nieces, nephews, family and friends. Major Hopkins conducted funeral services at The Salvation Army Bishop’s Falls, Sunday, November 3, 2002. Interment was at The Salvation Army cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskin’s Funeral Home, Bishop’s Falls. Pallbearers were nephews Tom Croucher, Marvin Welsh, Byron Welsh, Tony Pinsent, Frank Welsh, and Harris Rice.

Crichton - Patricia (nee Leavoy) 85 years. passed away peacefully on December 6, 2002 at Parkwood Hospital in London, after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife of the late Robert Crichton (1974). Predeceased by her parents Gordon and Beatrice (1975) Leavoy. Loving mother of Patti Crichton of Oakville and Sandra McDonald of London. Predeceased by her daughter Beverly Ellis and her son Robert Crichton Jr. (1937). Cherished grandmother to Kimberly (Ellis) Foster, Robert McDonald, Scott McDonald, Shawn Ellis, Bradley Ellis, Michael Ellis, Todd Mathurin and Jayson Mathurin. Predeceased by her grandson Terrance Mathurin. Also survived by 12 great-grandchildren. Dear sister to Nelson and his wife Phyllis Leavoy and Helen Boomer, all of Windsor. Predeceased by her brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Leavoy and her sister Beatrice Wild. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 895 Ouellette Avenue, Windsor, Ont. (519-254-3223) on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 from 12 noon until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Craig Drummond officiating. Cremation to follow. Memorial tributes to the V.O.N. or the Hospice of London would be appreciated by the family.

Smale - Lyle James of St. Thomas, on Sunday, December 8, 2002, at the University Hospital, London, in his 58th year. Dearly loved father of Cindy Smale and her Fiance John Wain of Blyth, Valerie Zavitz of St. Thomas and Doris and her husband David Vanderende of Goderich. Dear brother of George and his wife Sandra Smale of St. Thomas and Betty and her husband Ron Gillespie of Drumbo. Predeceased by a sister Eva Sharpe and a brother Larry Smale. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Lyle was born in Komoka February 7, 1945, the son of the late Russell and Hazel (Noble) Smale and stepson of the late William King. He will be sadly missed by many friends at the Elgin Labour Centre. He worked as a carpenter at Douglas Point and recently as a driver at Elgin Motor Freight. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas where funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Visitation Monday from 24 and 7-9 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Loomis - Orca passed at the Port Colborne General Hospital on Sunday, December 8, 2002 in her 103rd year. Loving mother to Jack Coopman and his wife Carol of Vineland, On, Charlotte Moon and her husband Bill of Belleville, On, and Mary Margaret Bowman and her husband Don of Bolton, On. Sadly missed by her 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her 1st husband Norman (Shady) Coopman, her 2nd husband Henry Loomis, her parents; Merner and Susie Shupe, 2 infant brothers, 1 infant sister, sisters; Viola Sherk and Muriel Troup, and a Great-grandchild Kevin Moon. The family will be receiving friends at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10 and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 12 at the Central United Church at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at the church. Reverend Roger Hides to officiate. Private interment to follow at Sherkston cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
