Stokes - Donald Ross of St. Thomas, on Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at the St. ThomasElgin General Hospital, in his 77th year. Dearly loved husband of Alice (McCormick) Stokes and dear father of Linda and her husband Robert Johnston of St. Thomas, Ross and his wife Debbie Stokes of St. Thomas, and Donna and her husband Russell Callaghan of Kincardine. Predeceased by a brother Robert “Bob” Stokes (Feb.12, 1999) and by 2 sisters Louise and Marie. Much loved grandfather of Tracey and her husband Duane Snelgrove, Corry and her husband Jason Sonier, Tara and her husband Bill MacIntyre, Stacey Callaghan and Chris Corrigan and Aaron Stokes. Loved great grandfather of Ryan, Gabriella and Cole. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Don was born in St. Thomas November 8, 1926, the son of the late Ross William and Ruby Stokes. He was retired from Ford Motor Company of Canada and was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas until Saturday afternoon and then to St. John’s Anglican Church where funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Private interment in Elmdale cemetery. Visitation Friday from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, United Way, the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.

Hopkins - At his residence on Friday, April 18, 2003. Christopher G. Hopkins of St. Thomas, formerly of Port Stanley and London, in his 104th year. Born in County Sussex, England, September 14, 1899, son of the late Richard J. “Henry” Hopkins and late Emily (Porter) Hopkins. He came to Canada at the age of 10 years. Husband of the late Olive (Bedford) Hopkins (1953). Father of Verla and her husband Dr. Howard Hostetler of London and grandfather of Sharron Wainio and her husband Bill of Sudbury, Patricia Whitney and her husband Lawrence of Niagara Falls and Darlene Patterson Cole and her husband Dr. John Cole of Waterloo. Also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and by dear friends, Annabelle Ewing and Jim Hanley of St. Thomas. He was the last surviving member of his own immediate family, having been predeceased by 3 brothers, Archibald, Frank and William Hopkins. At Mr. Hopkins request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Following cremation, private interment in Woodland cemetery , London. Memorial donations to the charity of one’s choice gratefully acknowledged. The Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas entrusted with the arrangements.

Pook - In Florida on Wednesday, April 16, 2003. Edward James (Jim) Pook of Niagara Falls in his 76th year. Beloved husband of Jackie (Irish) Pook, father of Michael and his wife Debbie of Winnipeg, Man. Stepfather of Kim Basinger (Todd) of Ohio, Vickie Gensler (John) of Newphane, N.Y. Jim Lampman (Deanna) of Honduras and Steve Lampman (MaryJane) of Wilson N.Y. Grandfather of Leslie, Laura and Lindsey Pook, step-grandfather of Anna Basinger, Ganelle, Errine and Kelly Gensler and Josh, Jeremy, Michael and Rachael Lampman. Dear brother of Margaret and her husband Tom Cassidy of St. Thomas, Sally Pook of London and Don and his wife Sharon of St. Thomas. Fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Jim was born April 9, 1928 in St. Thomas, son of the late Edward J. and Mary L. (Rankin) Pook. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Tompkins - At her residence on Wednesday, April 16th, 2003. Margaret E. Tompkins of Extend-icare, Port Stanley in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late Hector Charles Tompkins (1987) and dearly loved mother of Charles and his wife Beatrice Tompkins, London and Keith Tompkins and friend Renee, Grand Bend. Dear sister of Harry and his wife Margaret Hartford, Sarnia. Margaret is also lovingly remembered by seven grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was a member of the St. Thomas Christian Church and had worked for many years at Walkers Department Store in St. Thomas. A Private family service was held at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas and interment followed at the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in London. Remembrances may be made to charity of ones choice.

Smith - Theresa Leola; on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at the K.W. Hospital in her 78th year. Loving wife of the late Franklin Smith. Cherished and much loved mother of Christopher and his fiancé Jane Hamilton and Patricia Grummett and her husband Ronald. Loving Grandmother of Christopher and Alex. Aunt Tracy will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Theresa is predeceased by her sister Pat Girouard. Resting at the Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas Street, Cambridge where the family received friends on Saturday, April 19, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2003 at the Holy Angel R.C. Church, 502 Talbot St. in St. Thomas, Ontario at 11:00 am. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Arthritis Society would be appreciated by the family.

Gotzmeister - At St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Monday, April 21, 2003. George Gotzmeister of R.R.#5, Aylmer in his 77th year. Husband of Rose (Siebenmorgen) Gotzmeister. Dear father of Helen Mazurka and husband Bob of Conestogo, George G. Gotzmeister of R.R.#5, Aylmer and Dan Gotzmeister and wife Dorothy of R.R. #5, Aylmer. Loving Opa of Amber, Andrew, Matthew, Raegan, Derek, Jacob, Nicholas, Andrew and great Opa to Taylor. Also survived by a sister Susanna Siebenmorgen and husband Fred of R.R.#1, Sparta, a daughter-in-law Cathy and a number of nieces and nephews. Born in Weilau, Romania on Nov. 7, 1926 son of the late George and Susanna (Kroner) Gotzmeister. George was a long time tobacco farmer at R.R.#5, Aylmer. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the German Canadian Club. Friends may call at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Tuesday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. where prayers will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the St. John's Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Internet, Aylmer cemetery. Rev. Henry Schaper, officiating. Donations to the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
