WILLIAM ARTHUR - Patriot Thurs., 11 July, 1878 - Deaths
On the 22nd ult, in the 85th year of his age at North Rustico, William Arthur, senior, an old and highly respected inhabitant of that place.
RICHARD - January 22, 1942 Summerside Journal Pioneer. The death occurred at her home in Summerside about 7:30 o'clock Friday evening of Mrs. Benjamin Richard.
There are left to mourn their loss, her husband and the following sons and daughters, Benjamin, home; Owen, in Bath, Maine; and William at home; Mrs. Peter Sonier and Mrs. John Grady in Summerside and Mrs. John Berwick, in Kitchner, Ontario.
The funeral takes place at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning to St. Paul's Church and cemetery.

MRS. LLOYD S. COX - The death occurred suddenly at her home in Charlottetown on September 4, 1997 of Mary Willena (MacSwain) Cox in her 100th year.
She was born in Mount Hope, P. E. I. on December 10, 1897, the third daughter of Norman Ewart MacSwain and Margaret Janette (Macdonald) MacSwain and was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by her husband, her sisters Harriett (Mrs. George Perry), Florence (Mrs. W.W. Anderson), Margaret (Mrs. E.H Anderson), half-sisters Isabelle (Mrs. Russell Hunter), Margaret (Mrs. Harry Rideout), brothers Sterling and Sheldon and half-brothers John William and Ernest.
Educated at Mount Hope School, Moran’s Business School in Charlottetown, and Bryant and Stratton Business College in Boston she then worked as a secretary there for five years.
She married Lloyd Sutherland Cox at Christ Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 26, 1921. They moved to the family home in Morell, Prince Edward Island. Five years after her husbands death in 1953 she sold her home and moved to Charlottetown.
Mother possessed exceptional diligence and sound judgement, maintained a positive attitude throughout her life and fortified by her Christian Faith, she was a pillar of strength to her family.
She was a member of Marie United Church and later Trinity United in Charlottetown. She was a member of the Willing Circle of the King Daughters of Trinity Church and the Royal Edward Chapter of the IODE.
Left to cherish the memory of a wonderful mother are Helen, Lloyd (Esther), Lois (Alan) Snelgrove, David (Nancy) and Donald (Irene) .
"Grammie" was especially close to her grandchildren: Heather Diamond, Carolyn Cox Matejcek, Susan Cox-Russell, Janet Ditmore Judith Phillips, Helen Quinn, Steven and Geoffrey Snelgrove, Cynthia, David, Sharon, Pamela and Sandra Cox, Lynn Grafton, Brian, Jeffrey and Gregory Cox and her twenty three great grandchildren.
The funeral was held from MacLean Funeral Home to Trinity United Church on September 7, 1997, and was conducted by Rev. Sam Shields as requested by Mother.
Groups represented at the funeral were Beta, Sigma Phi Sorority, Session of Trinity United Church and Trinity United Church Women.
Pallbearers were: Don Anderson, Sterling MacSwain, Norma MacSwain, David MacSwain, Jeffrey Cox, Gregory Cox, Geoffrey Snelgrove, Darrell Carmody and Ron Diamond.
Interment took place in Marie United Church Cemetery with Rev. Mr. Shields conducting the graveside service.
We give thanks to God for Mother’s long and healthy life, for her loyalty, strength of character, wisdom, love and friendship.
JOYCE ELAINE WALSH - The death occurred at her home in Albany on September 7th, 1939 of Joyce Elaine, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Walsh.
Joyce was a sweet child of only two and one half years of age and had only been sick a short time, but all that loving hands and medical skill could do was of no avail and God called his little one home with Him.
Besides the sorrowing parents, there are left two sisters and two brothers, Myrtle, Jackie, Allison and Doreen.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Mr. Trites of Tryon and interment was in the Tryon Cemetery.
Much sympathy is extended to the grief stricken parents in the loss of their little one.
SMITH - At Rose Valley on March 6, 1947, of Samuel Smith, age 77 years.
Funeral From Rose Valley Church, on Saturday, March 8th at 1pm.
Interment in South Granville Cemetery.
SONIER - At the Prince County Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 27, 1992 of RUBY SONIER, beloved wife of Ervan Sonier, 469 Water St., Summerside, aged 73 years.
She was the daughter of the late Robert and Margaret (Lowder) Grady.
Mother of Ervin Jr., Summerside; Marlene and her husband Dennis Gaudet, Summerside; Joe and his wife Nancy, Hamilton, Ont.; Gloria and her husband Edwin MacIntyre, Summerside; Linda and her husband Yves Leonard, Ottawa, Donnie and his wife Lynn, Summerside.
She also leaves to mourn eight grandchildren.
Also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Coke, Bernie, Mae, Mrs. Ernie Keough; Myrtle, all of Summerside.
As well as several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by the following brothers and sisters: Charlotte, Roy, John, Elmer, Robert and Dorothy.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, Summerside until Tuesday, Dec. 29 for funeral service at the funeral home chapel at 2pm.
Interment in the St. Paul's Cemetery receiving vault.
No visiting hours by family request.

MRS. DORINDA FLOOD - The death of Mrs. Dorinda Flood, widow of the late Frank J. Flood, occurred at the Charlottetown Hospital on September 22nd, 1978, after an illness of several months.
She was the last surviving member of a family of eleven children of the late Peter Trainor and Annie Haughey.
Born in Maplewood in the parish of Kelly's Cross on May 1st, 1898, she was therefore in her eighty-first year. She received her early education in the local schools of Maplewood and Kelly's Cross. She later married Frank J. Flood, her next door neighbour, who predeceased her some seventeen years ago. Also predeceased are her son Patrick, and daughter Mary (Mrs. Ronnie Greenan), along with three step children, Redmond, Leo and Annie Estella Flood.
Dorinda had an endearing and engaging personality. She made friends easily and was at home in the company of young and old alike. She kept her youthful vigor and vitality almost to the last. In raising a large family during the lean thirties she had to work hard and endured much hardship. She nevertheless enjoyed living and always welcomed people to her home where she and her talented husband, Frank, entertained them with genuine friendliness and kind hospitality. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by a host of friends and acquaintances.
Her immediate family left to mourn their loss are: Sons, Charlie of Harrington; Clarence of Edmonton; Francis of Burlington, Ontario; Paul of Stanchel; her daughters: Noreen (Mrs. Joseph Cusack), Toronto; Teresa (Mrs. Richard Kelly) of Stanchel; also a number of grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
The funeral was held on Monday, September 25th, from the Charlottetown Funeral Home to St. Joseph's Church, Kelly's Cross where the funeral mass was celebrated by her nephew, Rev, Austin Bradley, who also gave the homily and held the committal service at the graveside in the nearby cemetery. The First Lesson was read by Rev. Fr. Clarence Roach, P.P., who also invited the prayers of the Faithful. Present in the sanctuary were Rev. Clarence Pitre, Rev. Clifford Murphy and Rev. Robert Coady.
CATHERINE LARIVIERE - Our dear Mother left us Jan 13, 2001.
She passed away at Prince County Hospital Summerside.
Mom was only 69.
She was born in Tignish.
Daughter of Delima and the late Peter DesRoches.
Loving Mother of Donald (Marilyn) DeaRoches Of Calgary, Alberta, Donnd DesRoches on Rockwood, Ont., Mary (John) Sullivan of Rochester NY, Jacinta (Steven) Blanchette of Norwich, Conn.
Loving Grandmother of Floyd, Donald. Christine, Roseann Mary, Shannon, Micheal, Matthew, Andrew and Annelise.
Great-grandmother to Courtney.
Beloved sister to Aldona (John) Hall of Taftville Conn, Mae (Justin) Gavin of Tignish, Joseph DesRoches of Moncton N.B, Kevin (Marie) DesRoches of Tignish, Jackie (Mary) DesRoches of Tignish, Alfred (Marie) DesRoches of Tignish, Sonny DesRoches of Tignish, Bobby (Claudette) Desroches of Mattawa Ont.
Predeceased by her husband Andrea Lariviere, her father Peter and brother Bobby in Infancy.
Mom is gone but she will always live in our hearts.
PITA (PIETERTJE) BOELHOUWER - In the early hours of September 12, 1997 Pita Boelhouwer passed away peacefully in her steep at The Garden Home where she resided since 1993.
She was born on June 4, 1912 in Holland the oldest of a family of six. She met and married Cornelis Boelhouwer on August 10, 1933.
She immigrated to Canada In 1953 bringing with them seven children.
They had two more children born to them on PEI. They lived in various parts of the Island until they moved to the Mayflower Apartment Building, they resided there for nine years. Cornelis passed away in 1992.
Pita continued to live there until she tell and broke her hip in 1993. After a stay in the Hospital she moved to The Garden Home where she stayed until her passing.
She leaves to mourn her children Tuentje (Bill) Deurwaarder, Johanna (Jan) Verhulp, Come (Charles) Indewey, Rina (Tony) Indewey Adriana (Westley) Curtis, John (Elaine) Boelhouwer, Gerrie (Larry) Taplin, Nellie McDonnell, and Sonya MacLennan. Also 30 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and one infant son.
Her funeral was held on September 15, 1997 from St. John’s Anglican Church, Milton with burial taking place at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Fredericton, PEI.
GRANT - The funeral for the late senator Thomas Vincent Grant M.D. C.M. took place on Wednesday morning from the Hennessey Funeral Home in St, Theresa's Chhurch, St. Theresa, where Solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. E.L. Murray, parish priest, assisted by Rev. L.B. Dooley as Sub-Deacon. Rev. Clifford Murphy was Master of Ceremonies.
Present in the Sanctuary were Rev. John Sullivan, Rev. Urban Gillis, Rev. Bennett Macdonald, Rev. Wilfred Keefe, Rev. T.P. Butler, Rev. Pius Murnaghan, Rev. Joseph LeClair, Rev. James Smith, Rev. Edwin Steele, Rev. Eugene O'Leary (St. John), and Rev. George Riley (St. John).
The honorary pall bearers were Lieut. Gov. W.J. MacDonald, Chief Justice Thane A. Campbell, Mr. Justice Mark R. MacGui?an, Judge C. The pall bearers were five sons of the deceased namely Dr. Earle, Dr. Byron, Dr. Norbert, Dr. Vincent, Dr. Raymond, and also grandson Dr. Kenneth Grant.
The flower bearers were five great-grandsons Peter Grant, James Killorn, Grant Killorn, Leo Killorn and Daniel Grant.
Attending the funeral were the Sisters of St. Martha representatives of Charlottetown Clinic, the Legislative Assembly, and PEI Liberal Association.
The Senate of Canada was represented by Island Senators.
The choir for the Requiem was the St. Theresa Church Choir, augmented by the Sisters of St. Martha choir.
Interment took place in the church cemetery the service being attended by Father _____.
