LORNE HENNESSEY - April 4, 1930 - August 20, 1998 - Surrounded by love and prayers, family and friends were shocked and saddened at the sudden and unexpected passing at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Halifax, N.S., of Montague, Lawrence Hennesey, or Lorne as he was commonly called, of 7 Moreau Dr. Charlottetown.
Lorne was born April 4, 1930 to the late Montague (Monty) Lawrence, and Kathleen (Duffy) Hennessey, he was the youngest of children. Lorne attended Queen Square School, Charlottetown then entered the work force at the C.N. Telegraph, followed by employment in the Carpentry Trade which developed as a hobby, and through this enjoyment he leaves behind many hand-crafted works of art. 1951 Lorne accepted a job with the Canadian National Railways as a motorman and delivered goods from one end of the Island to the other until the closure of the C.N.R. on P.E.l. in 1986. Following his retirement he continued working as a driver for Prince Edward Tours, a position he held until his death.
Through his many years in these two latter occupations, his gifts kindness, great sense of humour and outgoing personality enabled him to make countless friends. As a tour driver it afforded him the opportunity to meet and befriend many of our Japanese tourists who fondly called him Papason, and Lorne of numerous occasions filled the role "Father of the bride" at Japanese weddings held out by Green Gables.
Lorne was blessed with the qualities of caring and sharing, this was manifested by the giving of himself to his Church; as an active participant in the LYC Youth, Parish Council, Usher and Alter Server. His love of fun and laughter resulted in his involvement with Parish Minstrel Shows, and his happy get-togethers with his coffee buddies in the Church Centre. As a Father he was actively involved in Boy Scouts, Minor Hockey, Home and School Association, and many other charitable projects; he was always a willing volunteer. Lorne was a devoted Husband and Father. Anita fondly recalls his loyalty, his understanding, h sharing, his cooperation and his deep love. His greatest joy was his years of marriage to his loving wife Anita. This was quite visible by their outward devotion to each other. His children, daughter, Bonnie (Bramner), sons, Monty, Rob, Tim, and Mike are indelibly impressed by his wise counsel, his loving direction, his fun loving nature, his sharing their enjoyment, his help in their disappointments. Truly his paternal love encompassed their lives. He instilled in them this advice; "love begins at home", there is always some good in everyone", as long as you try your best that's all that counts", "if you can't say anything good about someone than don't say anything at all". Another of the greatest joys of Lorne's life was the birth of each of his 12 Grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Papa". They include, Tim, Meghan, Darce Hailey, Connor, Daniel, Catherine, Zachary, Vanessa, Samantha, Jordon, Emily.
Even in death Lorne gave of himself. Somewhere in the world sight has been restored to someone with the giving of his eyes, and burned patient's healing will be improved by the donation of skin grafts.
In addition to his immediate family, he leaves to cherish fond and loving memories of a caring brother, his sisters, Lois Hennessey, anidJoyce Durant. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters, Marjorie (in infancy), Freda (Teedy) MacKinnon and his brother Jack.
We, his family, thank God for the blessings we shared with him and although we will no longer be able to enjoy his living presence his legacy lives on in the lives he has touched.
Below is a tribute written by Lorne's daughter-in-law Estelle which best describes our dear Lorne.
LORNE'S GIFT
Lorne's first and most beautiful gift was the gift of his life from God.
During the course of this life, Lorne and all those he loved dearly helped unwrap this precious gift a little each day.
As he shared this gift as Fluff, Lorne, Dad, and Papa, it touched us deeply. The unfolding of this life was engineered with great love, respect, integrity and thoughtfulness.
He completed his earthly tasks in a quite manner and viewed his accomplishments with great modesty.
His deep faith in God was instrumental in building and nurturing a wonderful marriage of forty-four years, by raising a loving and caring family of five, and in sharing in very special ways the lives of his twelve grand children.
The numerous unique and wonderful works of Lorne's hands will always remain as physical reminders in his home and in the homes of his children. These treasures were conceived and completed with unconditional love. Like the many tasks both tangible and intangible, they did not include a favour in return.. it was never expected nor accepted.
On August 20, 1998 Lorne, with his family by his side, struggled to unwrap the final layers of his earthly life. The contents when expose' shined brightly and radiantly in the eyes of God. It was a life too bright to remain on earth and only to shine in the hearts of everyone touched. It was now Lorne's time to return his gift back to God in ex change for eternal life in Heaven.
As I conclude this tribute to a humble and decent man, I realize how much richer we are spiritually for having shared in both Lorne's life and his death.
We will always remember Lorne until we meet and share in his heavenly life. We will ask for his guidance so that we too may use our gift from God as genuinely and abundantly as he has. He will always be in our prayers and may his life serve as a mentor for ours.
Anita and children, Bonnie (Bob), Monty (Kim), Rob (Florence), Tim (Cindy), and Mike (Estelle)

Alice and Family
There's an open gate at the end of the road
Through which we must go alone
And there in a light we cannot see
Our Father claims his own;
Beyond the gate our loved one
Finds happiness and rest,
And there is comfort in the thought
That a loving God knows best.
